The Monk Moses Murin lived in the 4th century in Egypt. He was Ethiopian by origin, his face was black and therefore people called him “Murin”. In his youth, the man was the slave of a noble man, but after he committed a murder, his master drove him away, and he joined a gang of robbers.

For his violent temper and great physical strength, he was chosen as the leader of the gang. Moses, together with his accomplices, committed many atrocities, such as murders, robberies, and therefore everyone was afraid of them. Moses spent several years in a sinful life of robbery, but thanks to the mercy of God, he repented of his deeds, left the gang and went to one of the desert monasteries.

The life of Moses Murin was difficult and filled with trials. He did not quickly free himself from passions; he often came to the abbot of the monastery, Avva Isidore, asking for advice on how to get rid of fornication. The wise old man advised the man never to be satiated with food, to remain from hand to mouth, observing the strictest abstinence from all worldly things.

Having lived for many years in monastic endeavors, the Monk Moses was ordained to the rank of deacon. The bishop dressed him in white clothes and said: “Abba Moses is now all white.” The saint answered: “Master, what makes one clean—the external or the internal?” Out of humility, the monk considered himself unworthy to accept the rank of deacon.

One day, the bishop decided to test the man, and ordered the clergy to drive the deacon out of the altar, scolding him as an unworthy murin; the monk accepted the dishonor with complete humility. Having tested Moses, the bishop ordained him as a presbyter. The Monk Moses served in this rank for 15 years and gathered 75 disciples around him. Murin spent a lot of time in prayers for admonition and repentance, as he wanted to atone for all his sins.

When Murin turned 75 years old, he warned his monks that robbers would soon attack their monastery and kill everyone who lived in it. The saint blessed the disciples to leave the monastery to avoid violent death.

The disciples persuaded their teacher to leave with them, but he replied: “I have been waiting for many years for the time when the word of my Master, the Lord Jesus Christ, will be fulfilled on me, who said: “All who take the knife will perish by the knife”” (Matthew 26, 52).

After the students listened to the teacher’s answer, 7 brothers remained with him, one of whom, when the robbers approached, hid nearby. The bandits killed the Monk Moses and the six disciples who remained with him; their death occurred around the year 400.

Life of Moses Murin

At the beginning of the 4th century, an Egyptian had a slave, Moses. He was an Arab with a very dark skin color, for which he received the nickname murin (black). Possessing incredible physical abilities and a hot temper, Moses accidentally killed another slave. Fearing punishment, the rebellious slave left his master and joined the bandits.

Smart and cruel, the former slave soon became the leader of the gang. For several years, the bandits caused terror with robberies, murders and violence. But one day Moses realized the sinfulness of his life. Overcome by deep repentance, Murin came to the monastery and began to ask to be accepted as a novice. The monks knew about the crimes of the leader of the robbers and did not want to believe.

The criminal shed many tears before he was allowed to embark on the path of cleansing from sins. Murin obediently carried out the will of the abbot and the monks. After some time, Moses retired to a cell outside the monastery to repent before the Lord for his sins through prayers and labors.

While atonement for sins, the monk was attacked in a secluded cell by bandits from a gang where he had previously been an ataman. Moses tied their hands and brought them to the monastery to find out what to do with the captured criminals. The righteous hermits said that they should go with God. The robbers recognized in the monk who had captured and released them their former cruel leader, they also repented and became novices.

Moses Murin spent several years in fasting and prayer, after which he was called to the monastery. The bishop ordained him to the rank of deacon, gave him white clothes and said that now Abba Moses was all white. Subsequently, the deacon was elevated to the rank of presbyter, in which he served for 15 years.

When the presbyter turned 75 years old, the abba blessed the monks to leave the monastery in order to avoid violent death from robbers. The students began to ask the teacher to leave with them, but Abba Moses answered them that he was waiting for the will of the Lord to be fulfilled, who predicted to him that the one who used the knife against people would die from the knife.

There were 7 disciples left with the monk. One of them managed to hide when he heard the footsteps of the robbers, and became a witness to the death of Moses Murin and 6 disciples.

When to read the Orthodox prayer to Saint Moses Murin

Looking at the icon of Moses Murin, we see a dark-skinned man, which in itself surprises many, although the Lord does not look at skin color and race when He gives His grace; a pure heart and sincere faith are important to Him. It was precisely these qualities, coupled with deep repentance and unceasing tearful prayer, that Saint Moses Murin received from God the grace of healing.

The biography of the Venerable Martyr Moses is amazing. In his youth he was a slave, but he committed a murder, which became known to his master. The owner was a kind man and did not give up the saint. Moses was put on trial, but he was driven away. The young man had a chance to start a new life, but instead he joined the robbers, began to rob, kill, get drunk and indulge in fornication. However, soon a revolution took place in the life of Saint Moses Murin.

Spiritual path

The spiritual mentor of the former robber was the abbot of the monastery, Abba Isidore. On his advice, the novice led an ascetic lifestyle in order to overcome carnal passions: he constantly fasted and prayed to overcome sinful aspirations. It was especially difficult for him at night, when demons tempted the spirit with sexual visions.

Then Abba Isidore taught him all-night vigils. The novice prayed every night, without kneeling, so as not to fall asleep. But his passions did not let him go. Having fallen into despondency, Murin decided to leave the monastery, as unworthy to serve the Lord. The abbot came to his aid. With his help, the monk saw that demons and angels were going to fight for him. Abba explained to the monk, exhausted by the struggle with the flesh, that there were many sins in life, and it would take time to cleanse himself of them.

After his elevation to the rank of deacon, the monk believed that internally he had not yet completely cleansed himself of sins. Abba took upon himself the responsibility of bringing water for the hermits who lived far from the well. But the demons did not want to lose his soul. One day at the well, Murin felt a strong blow to his back and fell unconscious. In the morning, the deacon was found by the monks and transferred to the monastery, to his cell, where he spent a year, being paralyzed.

Having gotten back on his feet, Murin wanted to leave the monastery, become a hermit again and continue the fight against demons. But Abba Isidore said that the Lord accepted his many years of struggle with passions and gave him power over demons.

One day the bishop decided to test how far Moses had overcome his pride. At his command, the monks began to drive the deacon out of the church, insulting him as unworthy. Abba humbly accepted the dishonor. After a spiritual test, the bishop ordained the monk a presbyter.

PRAYERS FROM ST. MURIA AND ST. VONIFATIA

Prayers for healing from drunkenness are best addressed to the Monk Moses Murin and the martyr Boniface the Merciful.

The prayer to the Holy Martyr Boniface against drunkenness among Christians is considered one of the most effective.

Thousands of people turn to him every day asking for a cure, and many actually take the path of recovery. In addition to this prayer, there are several more that are equally effective. And just like the prayer to Saint Vofantius, they, prayers, are used for alcoholism.

The story of the holy martyr began in Rome, where he lived as a slave to a noble Roman woman. Together they indulged in wine drinking and debauchery, but their souls were tormented by the awareness of sin.

Having learned that the relics of the holy martyrs kept in the house could help in saving the soul, the hostess sent Boniface to get them and bring them.

On the way, Boniface sincerely repented of his sins, prayed earnestly and asked the Lord to give him a test in order to suffer for his faith. And so it happened - upon arrival in the city of Tarsus, he accepted martyrdom for his faith and since then has been considered an intercessor before the Lord for all drunkards and fornicators.

It is to the Holy Martyr Boniface that both those suffering from this illness and their loved ones pray for drunkenness.

“Oh, reverend one, you have achieved wonderful virtues from grave sins, help the servants of God (names) praying to you, who are drawn to destruction because they indulge in the immeasurable consumption of wine, which is harmful to the soul and body. Bow your merciful gaze upon them, do not reject them or despise them, but listen to them as they come running to you.

Pray, Holy Moses, Lord Christ, not to reject them. He, the Merciful, and may the Devil not rejoice at their destruction, but may the Lord have mercy on these powerless and unfortunate ones, who were possessed by the destructive passion of drunkenness, for we are all divine creatures and redeemed by the Most Pure Blood of His Son. Hear, Reverend Moses, their prayer, drive away the Devil from them, grant them the power to overcome passion, help them, stretch out your hand, lead them to the path of good, free them from the slavery of passions and deliver them from the slavery of wine drinking, so that they, renewed , in sobriety and a bright mind, they loved abstinence and piety and eternally glorified the All-Good God, who always saves His creatures. Amen".

“In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, amen. Hops and wine, retreat from the servant of God (name) into the dark forests, where people do not walk and horses do not roam, and birds do not fly. In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit (say twice), hops and wine, go out into the fast water , which people don't drive. From the servant of God (name), hops and wine, go to the violent winds, from which the wind travels in the distance.

Oh, all-holy Boniface, merciful servant of the Merciful Master! Hear those who come running to you, obsessed with the addiction to drinking wine, and just as in your earthly life you never refused to help those who asked you, so now deliver these unfortunates (names).

Once upon a time, God-wise father, hail destroyed your vineyard, but you, having given thanks to God, ordered the few remaining grapes to be placed in a winepress and to invite the poor. Then, taking new wine, you poured it drop by drop into all the vessels that were in the bishopric, and God, fulfilling the prayer of the merciful, performed a glorious miracle: the wine in the winepress multiplied, and the poor filled their vessels. Oh, saint of God!

Just as through your prayer wine increased for the needs of the church and for the benefit of the poor, so you, blessed one, now reduce it where it causes harm, deliver those who indulge in the shameful passion of wine drinking (names) from their addiction to it, heal them from a serious illness, free them from demonic temptation, strengthen them, the weak, give them, the weak, strength and strength to successfully endure this temptation, return them to a healthy and sober life, direct them to the path of work, put in them the desire for sobriety and spiritual vigor.

Help them, saint of God Boniface, when the thirst for wine begins to burn their larynx, destroy their destructive desire, refresh their lips with heavenly coolness, enlighten their eyes, place their feet on the rock of faith and hope, so that, leaving their soul-harming addiction, which entails excommunication from the Heavenly Kingdom, they, having established themselves in piety, were awarded a shameless peaceful death and in the eternal light of the infinite Kingdom of Glory worthily glorified our Lord Jesus Christ with His Beginning Father and with His Most Holy and Life-giving Spirit forever and ever. Amen.

Important to remember

Before reading the prayer to the Holy Martyr, it is advisable to ask for a blessing from the priest. You will have to report from 40 days to 40 weeks for such a protracted illness as drunkenness. When praying, you must definitely think about the person for whom you are asking.

In addition to St. Boniface, it is customary to pray for healing from binge drinking to the Monk Moses Murin. He was a drunkard and a cruel robber, but one day he deeply repented, became a monk and spent the rest of his life in prayer and labor, guiding sinners like himself in his youth onto the true path.

The miraculous Icon of the Mother of God “The Inexhaustible Chalice” is no less revered by the Orthodox. Just like the prayer to the Holy Martyr Boniface from drunkenness, turning to this icon helps believers to be healed of a serious illness and strengthen their faith.

Part 5 – PRAYERS FROM ST. MURIA AND ST. VONIFATIA

How to pray correctly?

The prayer to Moses Murin can be read by the addict himself or by close relatives if the patient does not want to be treated.

In order for an appeal to the Saint to yield results, it must be followed according to all the rules:

  • If a prayer book is said to heal a man, then this should be done on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
  • When women ask for healing, this is done on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
  • The prayer is not read on Sundays and church holidays.
  • It is better to call on the Saint during the full moon or in the last phase.
  • The Old Slavonic rite must be performed with good intentions and a sincere desire to help.

If this is done in a joking manner, the ritual will lead to serious consequences. An alcoholic will begin to drink even more, and he and his family may develop serious illnesses. The one who reads the prayer will also suffer greatly.

If the ritual is performed without the consent of the patient, no one should know about it.

It is necessary to carry out the ritual in complete silence, so that there are no distractions during this time. Only in this case will it be possible to achieve results.

In what cases does prayer fail to help?

You cannot expect that only an akathist to the Saint will help you cope with the demon of alcoholism. They pray that the addict will realize that he is sick and want to be healed and make every effort to do so. This is what will help you cope with your addiction.

Drug treatment cannot be ignored. Turning to Moses Murin will not help to heal from physical illnesses caused by alcohol addiction.

A prayer service can give the patient faith in his abilities and normalize his mental balance. It is very important that during the period of giving up alcohol, there are close people nearby; a person should not feel lonely. This will help him not become addicted to the bottle again.
