Start of construction

It is believed that the place where the monastery stands is in the 12th century. occupied a church in honor of St. Boris and Gleb. It was erected by Prince Constantine, who baptized the city. In those days, this area was called Staroe Vyshne. According to another legend, there was a wooden Trinity Church there, built in 1351 by Prince Yuri Yaroslavich. In 1643, the city merchant Tarasy Tsvetnov founded a monastery here, and on the site of the old wooden church, the Trinity Cathedral was erected, which still stands. The merchant himself provided funds for the work. The new stone building was lavishly decorated with tiles.

A few years later, construction work began again. Near the cathedral, the Kazan Gate Church was erected, and along with it a bell tower. The tent buildings were erected over several years; they were built in 1648-1652. The entire composition of the monastery was completed only by the end of the 19th century. In addition to the churches, a building with monastic cells, a parish school and a stone wall protecting the monastery appeared on the territory.

In 1975, the monastery was consecrated with another temple, but this did not happen quite normally. The new building was not built on the territory of the monastery, but was transported from a nearby settlement. Wooden chopped church in honor of St. Sergius of Radonezh was brought in parts and buried in the monastery. Its domes are covered with alder ploughshares, and when the weather is clear, they shine with a silver light. Divine services are held there only in the warm season.

Despite the revolution, the quiet life of the monastery continued until 1921, after which a decision was made to close the monastery. The buildings and premises on its territory began to be used for the needs of the city.
