What is the “Indestructible Psalter” about the repose of the dead?
This is a book containing 150 verses (psalms). It is believed that the author of most of them was King David; he lived long before the appearance of Christ. One of the psalms was written by Moses (numbered 89). However, in the Jewish tradition it is believed that the next verse (90) also came from the hand of the prophet, despite the fact that this text is not signed. There are also prayers in the Psalter, but by a different author.
The peculiarity of the sacred texts is the need to continuously say prayer over a certain period of time. All texts in this book are divided into 3 groups:
- instructive;
- laudatory;
- repentant.
The sleepless prayer is called because of the long reading of the texts,
no breaks are taken.
The complexity of the process of reading without stopping does not allow church ministers to pronounce the text. For this reason, you can only order a prayer of remembrance at the monastery. The need to carry out such a complex ritual is due to voluntary sacrifice: monks, reading texts, renounce earthly things, rushing to God, they fulfill their main function - they glorify the Almighty.
In the same way, the angels of the Lord glorify the Heavenly Father. Taking this into account, one day a clergyman (the abbot of one of the monasteries) suggested that a person would also be able to continuously glorify God. No later than the 5th century, such an obligation was included in the monastery charter. However, the abbot of the monastery did not dare to oblige the ministers to continuously read the Psalter. Then he turned to the Lord, begging for understanding of what to do.
For three years he turned to God, after which he received the answer:
“Start what you have in mind - it pleases me.”
This was the beginning of the readings of the Unending Prayer. The monastery received the same name. He began the spread of this tradition throughout the world. The name “unsleepless” means that the text is pronounced without interruption for sleep.
Broadcast of the Undying Psalter
For everyone who wants “with one mouth and one heart” to offer up their prayers with the Valaam brethren, a weekly broadcast of the reading of the Indestructible Psalter was organized on Wednesdays from 19.00 to 20.00 (if this time falls on the eve of a holiday, the broadcast is postponed to the next day). The broadcast is carried out on the monastery YouTube channel. An archive of broadcast recordings is available in this playlist.
Reading the Incessant Psalter joins us to the incessant angelic choir praising God together with the saints. The power of this continuous monastic prayer is confirmed by the experience of past centuries and our contemporaries.
Reading order of the Indestructible Psalter
Today, many monasteries function this way: sacred texts are continuously recited. You can order a prayer for remembrance; the reader needs to provide the name of the person for whom the service is being held. Previously, only monks who knew by heart all the texts that needed to be recited were allowed to perform it.
John Chrysostom said,
that the psalms mean the verbs of the Holy Spirit.
These are sacred texts, which is why when read, there is a strong impact on those who read, as well as on the souls of the dead, for whom the Incessant Prayer is said. In addition, the words of prayer offered up also affect the holy monastery. General reading order:
- shifts are assigned, the monks take turns pronouncing prayer texts;
- when reading, it is important to feel reverence, peace, tranquility, and also to remain in silence;
- when one shift ends, the next monk steps in, and you need to pronounce the name of the person/people who are commemorated, this is done three times - after each glory (there are 3 of them for each kathisma);
- While the Incessant Prayer is being read, taxes are distributed to those in need.
As a result, reading helps in various cases:
- the soul of the person for whom the prayer service is performed is cleansed;
- protection from evil spirits is provided;
- demons are defeated;
- sinners rise from hell.
There are also recommendations for reading,
for example, one should recite sacred texts in a peaceful voice.
Moreover, it is important to avoid distracted attention and tense intonations. The effectiveness of the prayer service is determined by how harmonious the monk’s state was when he pronounced the sacred texts. Other features and rules for reading the Unending Prayer:
- when praying, it is advisable to sit, this is due to the significant duration of the period of reciting the sacred text;
- the speed of pronouncing the prayer depends on the number of readers, and there are cases when the Indestructible Psalter was recited in 2 days;
- It is recommended to repeat the prayer text 40 times.
There are rules that help you better cope with the loss of a loved one:
- The Psalter is recited continuously, this is done over the body until the funeral;
- then they continue to read the Psalter, but after burial this must be done once a day, and 1 kathisma is enough;
- The reading of kathismas should last until the 40th day.
At home, the Indestructible Psalter is read while standing; the psalms are divided into several groups, which makes it easier to pray. Everyone reads a certain number of kathismas. It is not forbidden to hold a prayer service while at home, but you need to divide the texts into groups. Each of the relatives will be able to participate in prayer for the Mother of God.
The commemoration lasts up to 40 days after the death of a person. This tradition provides help to the soul: it helps to cleanse it from sins and accelerates its ascension to God. You need to understand how the services at which the Psalter is read differ. For example, when pronouncing a prayer text for health or peace, the period of prayer in the monastery is long.
In the temple
Only individual psalms from the book can be read.
A number of factors are noted that help to understand why only the ministers of the holy monastery should recite the Indestructible Psalter:
- monks are as close to the Lord as possible and are cut off from worldly problems and burdens, so they will recite the text with greater efficiency;
- when reading the Never-Sleeping Psalter, the power of prayer is manifested: a pillar of fire appears at the energy level, which the elders also wrote about;
- monks make sacrifices for the souls of the deceased, because they voluntarily expose themselves to severe discomfort and refuse comforts.
In addition to the spiritual component, you need to take into account the physical, material and economic. Thus, monasteries are autonomous units, and therefore require donations from people who order plants online.
SOROKOST AND THE UNFORTUNATE PSALTERY. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?
Let's look at these two types of church commemoration of the living and the dead and give a definition to each of them.
Write down everyone to whom you wish health, salvation and prosperity.
1) and to you, since this is a matter of mercy.
2) to the monastery, since this is support for the monastery as a whole.
3) monks, because they participate in this ceremony; they feel that they are benefiting and feel that their prayer is being conveyed.
4) by your example you can also inspire someone nearby, if they suddenly find themselves or in a spiritual conversation with someone (without revealing your alms and its size)
5) when you see the result (and there will definitely be one), you will strengthen your faith
There is eternal remembrance on the Indestructible Psalter. It seems expensive, but the result is more than millions of times more than the money spent. If this is still not possible, then you can order for a shorter period. It's also good to read for yourself.
Separate commemorations (synodics) are held for prayer for the health and salvation of the living, and for the repose of the souls of departed Orthodox Christians. Health and funeral synodics are read alternately.
Part 16 – SOROKOST AND THE UNFORTUNATE PSALTERY. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?
In many places there is a custom of asking monasteries to read the Psalter for the departed and for health, which is combined with giving alms. In the monastery (editor's note - the monasteries, the brothers and sisters constantly read the Psalter (the indefatigable psalter) with the remembrance of names (about health and repose). Great is the power of this unceasing prayer. Reading the Psalter drives away demons from a person and attracts God's grace. The Indestructible Psalter is a special kind of prayer. The never-ending psalter is so called because its reading takes place around the clock, without interruption. This kind of prayer is prayed only in monasteries. You can give for both the living and the deceased. Prayer for the living and the dead while reading the indefatigable Psalter has unprecedented power, which crushes demons, softens hearts, and appeases the Lord so that he raises sinners from hell.
2. The Psalter is a prayer of the strongest power. Rev. Ambrose of Optina: .
Elder Jerome of Sanaksar said,
3. The peculiarity of the Psalter prayer is that when one prays for a person during this prayer, it greatly protects him from evil demons and helps in the fight against passions. As St. says Parthenius of Kyiv,
4. Also, the most important feature of the rite of the Indestructible Psalter is that you will be commemorated every day and usually several times a day. Those. some monasteries commemorate not only once a day, but at every kathisma (The Psalter has 20 kathismas, 20 parts).
5. The indefatigable Psalter is read not only during the day, but also at night. That is why this rank is called indestructible, because does not stop day or night. The monks replace each other after a certain amount of time.
6. The indefatigable Psalter is read not only about health, but also about peace. Since ancient times, ordering commemoration on the Everlasting Psalter has been considered a great alms for a departed soul.
7. As Blessed Augustine said, it is extremely desirable for a monastery to have this rank. This is a stronghold of monasteries. When you order this rank, you support this monastery. This is a very generous alms. After all, the benefit is not only to the person for whom you ordered, but:
1) and you, since this is a matter of mercy
2) to the monastery, since this is support for the monastery as a whole
3) monks, because they participate in this ceremony; they feel that they are benefiting and feel that their prayer is being conveyed
4) by your example you can also inspire someone nearby, if they suddenly find themselves or in a spiritual conversation with someone (without revealing your alms and its size)
5) when you see the result (and there will definitely be one), you will strengthen your faith
It is also good to order the Indestructible Psalter for yourself; you will feel the support. And one more important point, but far from the least important.
There is eternal remembrance on the Indestructible Psalter. It seems expensive, but the result is more than millions of times more than the money spent. If this is still not possible, then you can order for a shorter period. It's also good to read for yourself.
“One restless intellectual writes to me: “It’s very difficult for me. Outwardly, everything is going well: things are going well, the family is friendly, the wife is good. But the trouble is that I have no one to open my soul to: my wife doesn’t understand what I’m yearning for, and the children are still small. What should I do? How to get rid of melancholy and sorrow?
I advised him to read the Psalter. There is in the 93rd Psalm: (Ps. 93:19). “Take hold of this verse,” I wrote to him, and begin to read the Psalter. I think God will comfort you.”
Some time passes, I receive a letter: “I listened to you, began to read the Psalter, and I don’t understand anything in it.”
I write to him: “Our great elder Fr. Ambrose responded to the same statement: .
And I repeat to you: read the Psalter every day, at least a little, and the Lord will not leave you with His mercy, He will always be your Helper and Comforter. It is also good to read Psalms 90 and 50 daily; Psalm 90, “Alive in the Help of the Most High,” is useful to read three times a day: morning, noon and evening. At noon a person is especially attacked by a prodigal demon, and this same psalm drives him far away.”
About the elder of the Pskov-Pechersk monastery, schema-abbot Savva:
There was a short period in his life when he experienced some difficulties: there was not enough time for everything, he felt weakness and despondency. And then one night before dawn, in a subtle dream, the Most Holy Lady appeared to him in full height with a crown on her head, as depicted on the icon “Joy of All Who Sorrow,” and quietly said:
This was the first appearance of the Mother of God. All difficulties disappeared as if by hand. Since then, he never stopped reading the Psalter, and subsequently led the reading of the “Unsleeping Psalter” in the Pskov-Pechersk monastery.
Father Savva loved the Psalter very much. He believed that reading the Psalter is necessary for the Jesus Prayer, that the Psalms and the Jesus Prayer are living water from one source: the Psalter supports the Jesus Prayer, like the walls of a temple support its roof.
In ancient times there were monasteries that were called “unsleeping”. The monks of these monasteries read the Psalter every twenty-four hours, day and night.
Father Savva blessed his spiritual children to distribute the psalms of David among themselves and read them at certain times of the day, so that the reading of the Psalms in his spiritual family would never stop.
He loved to pray with the songs of David and taught others the same:
(Psalm 69, 1)
(Psalm 39:1)
(Psalm 26:1)
An incident from the life of an old man:
The sick Father K. was at rest in the monastery, to whom the doctors prescribed constant bed rest. The patient turned to Father Savva: “Pray for me.”
His father told him: “Read the Psalter.”
And he answers: “I can’t.”
But Father Savva tells him: “You can’t, but you read!”
A few days later he said that he had moved himself and began to read the Psalter. And he recovered and lived for another 10 years after that.
The elder said: To sanctify the soul, so that the inner eyes are opened, read the 17th kathisma with attention.
Psalm is the silence of souls, the dispenser of peace; he calms rebellious and agitated thoughts; it softens the irritability of the soul and disciplines intemperance.
The psalm is a mediator of friendship, unity between distant people, reconciliation of warring people.
Psalm is a refuge from demons, entry under the protection of Angels, weapons in night insurance, repose from daytime labors, safety for babies, decoration in a blooming age, comfort for the elderly, the most decent decoration for wives.
The psalm inhabits the deserts, makes the marketplaces healthy.
Psalm is the occupation of Angels, heavenly cohabitation, spiritual incense.
This is a wise invention of the Teacher, who arranged for us to sing and learn useful things together. Because of this, the lessons are better imprinted on souls. For what is learned under compulsion does not remain in us for long; and what is accepted with pleasure and pleasantness takes root more firmly in the souls.
“I think that in the words of this book the whole human life, the whole state of the soul, the whole movement of thought is measured and embraced, so that nothing more can be found in a person.
Is it necessary to perform repentance and confession?
Are you overwhelmed by sorrow and temptation?
Are they persecuting you or plotting against you?
Has despondency taken hold of you?
Or, seeing yourself happy and your enemy humiliated, do you want to bring gratitude and praise to the Lord? Everyone can find guidance in the divine psalms. Let them read their words about each of these states, and every person will lift them up to the Lord, as if they were written about him.”
The Inexhaustible Psalter about Repose listen online
The text contained in the Old and New Testament books will help in any situation, because this is one of the most effective prayers. When it is not possible to order the reading of a continuous prayer, they turn to audio recordings. However, in this case, the prayer text will help less, since the personal presence of the monks is not ensured, the soul is not invested, and the digital recording is cleared of extraneous noise.

Read the indefatigable psalter about repose at home
When it is not possible to order a prayer service performed with the participation of standing monks, reading of sacred texts at home is organized. Moreover, you need to share this responsibility with someone close to you, since it is impossible to recite the Psalter on your own without interruptions: you will still need to take time off for meals and other household things.
Kathisma 17th
Psalm 118
Alleluia, 118.
1 Blessed are those who are blameless in their ways, who keep the law of the Lord. 2 Blessed are those who know His revelations; they seek Him with all their hearts. 3 For those who do not commit iniquity walk in His ways. 4 You commanded that Your commandments should be kept firmly; 5 Let my ways be right, and I will keep Your commandments! 6 Then I will not be ashamed, considering Your commandments. 7 I will glorify You in the righteousness of my heart when I comprehend Your righteous judgments. 8 I will keep Your commandments; do not leave me. 9 How can a young man correct his path? When he will keep Your words. 10 With all my heart I have sought You; do not remove me from Your commandments! 11 I have kept Your words in my heart, so that I may not sin against You. 12 Blessed are You, O Lord; teach me Your commandments! 13 With my mouth I have declared what was spoken by Your mouth. 14 In the path of Your revelations I have enjoyed myself as if in great riches. 15 I will meditate on Your commandments, and I will understand Your ways. 16 I will learn Your commandments; I will not forget Your words. 17 Give tribute to me, Your servant; Give me life, and I will keep Your words! 18 Open my eyes, and I will understand the wonders shown by Your law. 19 I am a stranger on earth; do not hide Your commandments from me! 20 It is my soul’s delight to listen to Your judgments at all times. 21 You punished the proud. Cursed are those who turn away from Your commandments! 22 Take away shame and humiliation from me, for I have sought Your revelations. 23 For the princes gathered together and slandered me, but Your servant meditated on Your commandments; 24 For Your testimonies are for my instruction, and Your commandments have become my counselors. 25 My soul has fallen; restore life to me by Your word! 26 I told You my ways, and You heard me; teach me Your commandments! 27 Let me understand the way of Your commandments; I will meditate on Your wonders. 28 My soul fell into slumber from despondency; confirm me in Your words! 29 Remove from me the ways of unrighteousness, and have mercy on me according to Your law! 30 I have chosen the path of truth and have not forgotten Your judgments. 31 I have fallen to Your testimonies, O Lord, do not disgrace me! 32 I walked in the way of Your commandments, when You enlarged my soul. 33 Make the way of Your commandments a law for me, O Lord, and I will seek it forever; 34 Give me understanding, that I may know Your law and keep it in my heart. 35 Lead me in the path of Your commandments, for I desire it. 36 Incline my heart to Your revelations, and not to unrighteous gain! 37 Turn away my eyes, lest I see vanity; on Your path grant me life! 38 Let Your servant receive Your word with fear! 39 Take away from me the reproach that I contemplate, for Your judgments are good. 40 I have desired Your commandments; by Thy truth grant me life! 41 Let Thy mercy come upon me, O Lord, and I will be saved according to Thy word; 42 And I will give an answer to those who reproach me, for I trust in Your words. 43 And take not the words of righteousness out of my mouth, for I trust in Your judgments; 44 And I will keep Your law forever, for ever. 45 My heart became spacious, for I sought Your commandments. 46 And I spoke of Your testimonies before kings, and was not troubled; 47 And I learned Your commandments, which I loved; 48 And I stretched out my hands to Your commandments, which I loved, and delved into Your commandments. 49 Grant me, Your servant, to remember Your words, in which You commanded me to trust. 50 This comforted me in my humiliation, for Your word restored me to life. 51 The proud have defied the law; but I have not turned away from Your law. 52 I remembered Your judgments from time immemorial, O Lord, and I was comforted. 53 Sorrow came upon me at the sight of sinners who reject Your law. 54 I sang Your commandments during my journey. 55 I remembered Your name in the night, O Lord, and kept Your law. 56 He was in my heart, for I sought Your commandments. 57 You know my inheritance, O Lord; I said: “I will keep Your law.” 58 I prayed before You with all my heart; have mercy on me according to your word! 59 I thought about Your ways and again directed my steps towards Your revelations. 60 I prepared myself and was not dismayed, keeping Your commandments. 61 The nets of sinners have entangled me. But I have not forgotten Your law. 62 At midnight I rose to glorify You for Your righteous judgments. 63 I am a friend to all those who fear You and keep Your commandments. 64 The earth is filled with Your mercy, O Lord; Teach me Your commandments! 65 Thou hast done good to Thy servant, O Lord, according to Thy word; 66 Teach me mercy, obedience and understanding, for I believe Your commandments. 67 Until I experienced humiliation, I sinned, but now I keep Your word. 68 You are good, O Lord, and according to Your goodness teach me Your commandments! 69 The iniquity of the proud people has multiplied and risen up against me; I will know Your commandments with all my heart. 70 Their hearts are hardened like cheese; I am learning Your law. 71 It is good for me that You have humbled me. May I learn Your commandments. 72 The law of Your mouth is good to me; it is worth more than much gold and silver.

Glory:
73 Thy hands made me and formed me; Give me understanding, and I will learn Your commandments. 74 Those who fear You will see me and rejoice, for I have trusted in Your words. 75 I understood, O Lord, that Your judgments are righteous, and You have truly humbled me. 76 Let Thy mercy overshadow me, and comfort me according to Thy word, which Thou hast spoken to Thy servant; 77 Let Your compassions come upon me, and I will live, for Your law guides me. 78 Let the proud be ashamed, for they have dealt with me unrighteously and lawlessly; I will meditate on Your commandments. 79 May those who fear You and know Your revelations guide me on Your path. 80 May my heart keep Your commandments blamelessly, and I will not be put to shame. 81 My soul faints, waiting for salvation from You; I trusted in Your words. 82 My eyes are weary in waiting for Thy word; when will you console me? 83 For I have become like a bottle bound by frost, but I have not forgotten Your commandments. 84 How many days of life remain for Your servant? When will You judge between me and my persecutors? 85 The wicked have told me their lies, but they are far from Thy law, O Lord. 86 All Your commandments are truth; They persecute me unjustly, help me! 87 They almost destroyed me on earth, but I did not forsake Your commandments. 88 By Thy mercy restore my life, and I will preserve the testimonies of Thy mouth. 89 Forever, O Lord, Your word remains in Heaven. 90 From generation to generation Your truth remains unchanged; You created the earth, and it exists. 91 As You commanded, the day is coming; for everything in the world is subject to You. 92 If I had not kept Your law, destruction would have come upon me in my humiliation; 93 I will never forget Your commandments, for they gave me life.

Middle of the Psalm
94 I am Yours, save me; for I seek Your commandments. 95 Sinners guarded me, planning to destroy me; but I have understood Your revelations. 96 I saw that everything was coming to an end; but Your commandment is infinitely broad. 97 How I have loved Your law, O Lord! Every day he instructs me. 98 You have made me wiser than my enemies in Your commandment, and it is mine forever. 99 I have learned more than my teachers, for Thy testimonies instruct me. 100 I have learned more than the elders, for I seek Thy commandments. 101 I have departed from every path of sin, that I may preserve Your words; 102 I did not turn aside from Your judgments, for You gave me the law. 103 How sweet are Your words in my throat! They are sweeter than honey in my mouth! 104 I understood Your commandments and hated every way of unrighteousness. 105 Your law is a lamp for my steps, and its light is on my paths. 106 I have sworn to always keep the judgments of Your righteousness. 107 I am deeply humbled; Lord, give me life through Your word! 108 Accept, O Lord, the vows that I have spoken with my lips of my own free will, and teach me Your judgments! 109 My soul is in Your hands forever, and I have not forgotten Your law. 110 Sinners have laid nets for me; but I have not changed Your commandments. 111 I have inherited Your testimonies forever, for they are the joy of my heart; 112 I have desired in my heart to fulfill Your commandments forever, may You reward me. 113 I have hated the wicked, but I have loved Your law. 114 You are the Giver of help and my Protector; I trust in Your words. 115 Depart from me, you wicked people, and I will understand the commandments of my God! 116 Protect me with Your word, and I will live; and do not disgrace me in my hope! 117 Help me, and I will find salvation, and I will learn Your commandments. 118 You have humiliated those who violate Your commandments, for their thoughts are unrighteous. 119 I have recognized all sinners on earth as violators of Your will; and behold, I have loved Your testimonies. 120 Let me always fear You, O Lord, for Your judgment threatens me. 121 I judged and acted truthfully; do not hand me over to my offenders! 122 Receive Your servant for his good, so that the proud do not slander me! 123 My eyes are faint, waiting for salvation and the word of Thy righteousness; 124 Deal with Your servant according to Your mercy, and teach me Your commandments! 125 I am Your servant; Give me understanding, and I will understand Your testimonies. 126 The time has come for You, O Lord, to reveal Your power; They have trampled down Your law! 127 And now I have loved Your commandments more than gold and topaz. 128 And I strived after all Your commandments; I hated every way of unrighteousness. 129 Wonderful are Your testimonies: my soul knows them. 130 Your words revealed in the Scriptures enlighten and admonish little children. 131 I opened my mouth in prayer and lifted up my spirit, for I desired Your commandments.

Glory after the middle of Psalm 119
132 Look upon me and have mercy on me, as You judge mercifully those who love Your name. 133 Guide my steps with Your word, and let iniquity not take possession of me! 134 Deliver me from human slander, and I will keep Your commandments! 135 Illuminate Your servant with the radiance of Your face and teach me Your commandments! 136 My eyes pour out streams of tears, for I have not kept Your law. 137 You are righteous, O Lord, and your judgments are just; 138 You have commanded the truth in Your revelations and the fullness of Your truth. 139 I grew weary, longing for You, for my enemies have forgotten Your words. 140 Your word is fiery, and your servant has loved it. 141 I am the youngest and humbled, but I have not forgotten Your commandments. 142 Your righteousness is righteousness forever, and Your law is truth. 143 Troubles and sorrows took possession of me; but Your commandments are for my instruction. 144 The truth is eternal of Your revelations; give me some understanding, and I will live. 145 I cried with all my heart, hear me, O Lord! I seek Your commandments. 146 I cried to You, save me, and I will preserve Your testimonies. 147 I rose before dawn and called to You; I trust in Your words. 148 My eyes have greeted the morning, that I may learn Thy words. 149 Hear my call, O Lord, according to Thy mercy; by Thy righteous judgment grant me life! 150 My lawless persecutors are approaching; They have departed from Your law. 151 You are close to us, O Lord, and all Your ways are truth. 152 From a long time ago I knew from Your revelations that You have granted them forever. 153 Look at my humiliation and deliver me, for I have not forgotten Your law. 154 Judge my case and deliver me! According to Your word, grant me life! 155 Sinners are far from salvation, for they did not seek Your commandments. 156 Great are Your compassions, O Lord! By Your judgment grant me life! 157 I have many persecutors and oppressors, but I have not forsaken Your testimonies. 158 I saw the foolish and was distressed, because they did not keep Your words. 159 Look how I have loved Your commandments! Lord, by Your mercy grant me life! 160 The foundation of Your words is truth, and the judgments of Your righteousness are eternal. 161 The princes persecuted me without my guilt; but my heart was afraid of Your words. 162 I rejoiced at Your words, as if I had found great wealth. 163 I have hated and despised unrighteousness, but I have loved Your law. 164 Every day I praised You seven times for Your righteous judgments. 165 Great peace overshadows those who love Your law, and temptations are not terrible for them. 166 I waited for You to grant me salvation, O Lord, and I loved Your commandments. 167 My soul keeps Thy testimonies, and loves them deeply. 168 I keep Your commandments and Your testimonies, for all my ways are before You, O Lord! 169 May my prayer ascend to You: Lord! Give me understanding according to Your word! 170 May my petition ascend to You: Lord! Deliver me according to Your word! 171 Songs will flow from my lips when You teach me Your commandment. 172 My tongue will proclaim Your words, for Your commandments are truth. 173 Let Thy hand save me, for I have loved Thy commandments. 174 I desired that You would save me, O Lord, and Your law teaches me. 175 My soul will live and praise You; and Your judgment will justify me. 176 I wander like a lost sheep; but You will find Your servant, for I have not forgotten Your commandments!

After kathisma 17. Trisagion according to Our Father: Troparion, tone 2:
I have sinned before You, Savior, like the prodigal son; accept me, Father, the repentant one, and have mercy on me, O God!
Glory: I appeal to You, Christ the Savior, in the voice of a publican: “Be merciful to me, as to him, and have mercy on me, O God!”
And now: Mother of God, do not despise me, who am in need of Your intercession, for my soul trusts in You, and have mercy on me!

Lord, have mercy (40) and prayer:
Sovereign Lord, Almighty and Creator of the whole world, Father of compassion and God of mercy, who created man from the earth and endowed him with Your image and likeness, so that in him Your majestic name would be glorified on earth; rejected for the transgression of Your commandments, recreated him again for even better things in Your Christ, and brought him to heaven!
I thank You that You increased Your greatness on me, and did not completely betray me to my enemies, who seek to cast me into the abyss of hell, and did not allow me to perish among my iniquities.
Now, O Lord, most merciful and loving of goodness, who does not desire the death of the sinner, but who expects and accepts his conversion, who raises the prostrate, who heals the contrite, turn me to repentance, and raise the prostrate, and heal the contrite! Remember Your compassion and Your incomprehensible goodness from the ages and forget my immeasurable iniquities that I committed in deed, word, and thought. Destroy the blindness of my heart, and grant me tears of tenderness to cleanse my mind from filth.
Hear, O Lord, hearken, Lover of mankind, cleanse, O Merciful One, and free my unfortunate soul from the torment of the passions reigning in me.
And may sin no longer hold me back, and may the hostile demon not overcome me, and may he not bend me to his will. But You, who delivered me with Your strong hand from his dominion, O Good and Humane-loving Lord, reign in me and deign that I wholly belong to You and in the future live according to Your will.
And grant me, according to Your ineffable goodness, purification of the heart, guarded lips, straightforwardness of actions, humble thoughts, peace of thoughts, peace of mind, spiritual joy, true love, long-suffering, kindness, meekness, unfeigned faith, strong abstinence, and fill me all good fruits, according to the gift of Your Holy Spirit. And do not bring me only to half of my days, and do not steal my soul, faulty and unready, but fill me with Your perfection.
And so lead me out of this life, so that, having unhinderedly passed the rulers and rulers of darkness, by Thy grace, I too may see the unapproachable beauty of Thy glory, inexpressible, together with all Thy saints, in whom Thy all-sacred and majestic name, the Father and the Son, is holy and glorified. The Holy Spirit, now and always and unto ages of ages.
Amen.

Remember, O Lord our God, in the faith and hope of the eternal life of Your departed servants, our brothers and sisters, and as the Good One and the Lover of Mankind, forgiving sins and consuming iniquities, weaken, forgive and forgive all their voluntary and involuntary sins, deliver them from eternal torment and fire of Gehenna and grant them the communion and enjoyment of Your eternal good things, prepared for those who love You: even if you sin, do not depart from You and undoubtedly in the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, Your God in the Trinity of the glorified faith, and the Unity in the Trinity and the Trinity in Unity is Orthodox even until its last breath of confession.
Therefore, be merciful and have faith in You instead of deeds, and rest with Your saints, as You are Generous: for there is no man who will live and not sin, but You are the only One besides all sin, and Your righteousness is righteousness forever, and You are the One God of mercies and generosity and love for mankind, and to You we send glory, to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages.
Amen.

Theotokos psalter
Such a prayer is said for the health of close or not very familiar people in front of the icon of the Mother of God in the temple. A candle is placed on the altar, which signifies the sincerity of the person praying, the purity of his thoughts and love for the Lord. The psalter of the Mother of God contains great power, since she is closest to the Son of God and asks him for all those who suffer.
From the life of schema abbot Savva
- There was a short time in the life of the schema-abbot of the Pskov-Pechersk Monastery Savva (twentieth century) when he felt spiritual weakness and fell into the sin of despondency. One night, shortly before sunrise, he saw the Virgin Mary in a dream. She appeared before his eyes in full height. A crown shone on her head - as it is depicted on the icon “Joy of All Who Sorrow.” "Child! But you need to read the Psalter! This is your life!” were her words.
- This is how Savva saw the Mother of God for the first time. Following her advice, he began to read the psalms, and his difficulties left him. From that time on, he read them constantly, and then began to lead the readings of the Undying Psalter in the Pskov-Pechersk Lavra.
- He fell in love with ancient chants and believed that they were obligatory for offering prayers to Jesus Christ. That both the psalms and the Jesus Prayer are living water flowing from the same source. According to him, prayers rest on the psalter, like the roof of a temple on the walls.
- Savva himself distributed the psalms of David among the brothers, determining the time of day for each, and blessed them for this service. He made sure that this form of spiritual life in the monastery he controlled never ceased.
