A little about Sorokoust

This is one of the most powerful rituals in the church. It is ordered when there are people in the family with serious illnesses or when surgery is about to take place. This prayer is a good remedy against the evil eye and damage and for improving health. Sorokoust about health gives powerful energy and is suitable for people who want to restore their health.

Types of health notes

Types of prayers are divided into:

  • simple, they serve the Mother of God, the revered saints;
  • grateful, thanksgiving is offered to the Lord;
  • water-blessing, performed with the blessing of water;
  • Akathist, served with the reading of the Akathist, in front of the icon.

For all types, notes are submitted with the names of those for whom prayer is being performed. You can order a prayer service for any significant event. For example, travel, a wedding anniversary, a speedy recovery, and many other possible options, which, if necessary, can be discussed with the priest in advance.

When performing a water-blessing prayer service, the priest blesses the water brought by the believers, which is then accepted at home as a healing shrine.

How to order sorokoust correctly?

If there is a need to use church magic to remove the evil eye or damage , then a triple prayer service will be required, which should be read in three different churches. Temples must be chosen so that they are not on the same straight line. The most successful arrangement of monasteries will be in the shape of an equilateral triangle. This figure enhances the effect of magic.

In churches there are special forms for prayer services; in the column you must write the name of the person for whom the church ritual . The name must be written the one given at baptism, and not at birth - this is very important. And then the form is given to the clergyman.

Rules for filling out health notes

The rules for filling out health notes can always be found either in a church store or on an Internet resource. The most important rule is to do a good deed with love, and not for show. Prepare in advance the names of those for whom the prayer service will be performed so as not to forget anyone.

Be prepared for the fact that church services are performed for a donation. The size can be fixed or at your discretion. But if circumstances do not allow this, then all financial issues can be resolved individually. In this case, contact the priest personally.

Who to write first

When filling out a note for a prayer service for health, the question arises: who should be written first. According to the rules of the church hierarchy, the names of the clergy are written first: the Patriarch, the ruling bishop, then their spiritual father or priest, who is the spiritual mentor. Then parents, relatives, children, godchildren, benefactors, friends, colleagues. Do not forget that all those commemorated must be baptized in Orthodoxy. Do not violate the church rules of commemoration; it is impossible to deceive God.

How to order a prayer service

To order a prayer service, you need to come to the temple and go to the church shop. They will help you format the note correctly and explain, in accordance with your request, what type of prayer service is suitable for your situation. Taking into account the development of modern technologies, today it is possible to order a prayer service in a church via Internet resources. In this case, it is important to be vigilant so as not to fall into fraudulent resources. Therefore, use verified information and the official website of the temple.

Remember that personal participation in the prayer service is a very important spiritual moment. The use of modern opportunities is allowed if you want to provide all possible assistance to the church, increase prayer support, or if, for objective reasons, you do not have the opportunity to visit the temple in person.

Important! A prayer service is not ordered after the Divine Liturgy, because it is the highest church service for which Orthodox Christians have the opportunity to submit names to commemorate health.

Prayer for health

The Lord, the Mother of God, the Angelic world, the holy saints hear our hearts. The words of prayer, spoken from a pure soul, with real concern for dear, beloved people, do not remain unanswered. The Lord teaches us to pray not only for loved ones and relatives, but also for enemies. Such prayer is not always feasible, but it helps to open, cultivate compassion, and learn humility and mercy. Over time, developing spiritually, doing prayer work regularly, the understanding comes that we are all children of God, connected with each other and dependent on each other.

The Lord does not love everyone, He loves everyone. We need to try to live our lives in such a way that His Sacrifice is not in vain. The Lord, our Savior and Heavenly Father wants to see us happy in our common Heavenly Home - the Kingdom of God, as a Loving and Merciful Parent.

Preparing for 40th

In order to receive help from church magic, you must perform the following steps:

  • visit the church, confess and receive communion, draw holy water and order 12 cleansing prayers for her;
  • in the morning on an empty stomach, drink three sips of consecrated water;
  • put your home in order, add one glass of church water to a bucket of water and use it to do general cleaning.

On the eve of going to church, you should take a bath using water from the temple. Go to the prayer service only in a good mood.

What to expect after 40?

When starting the fight against the evil eye from an ill-wisher with the help of church magic, one must be prepared that dark forces will resist and can negatively affect a person’s life. For example:

  • frequent headaches will begin;
  • a series of life troubles will appear;
  • relationships with loved ones will deteriorate;
  • everything will fall out of hand;
  • a feeling of unsatisfactoriness will appear.

But these phenomena are temporary, they are the reaction of dark forces to the ritual performed. In about seven days, all troubles will disappear. And this will mean that the magpie removed the negative energy from the person.

On what occasions are psalms read?

Generally speaking, you can pray anytime, anywhere, and not necessarily with a prayer you have learned by heart. However, there are times in various circumstances when it is necessary to read a particular psalm. Here is a small pointer that indicates in what cases the psalm should be read:

  1. in diseases – 29, 46, 69;
  2. for meekness of spirit – 5, 6, 24;
  3. with temptation – 54;
  4. in defense from enemies - 90;
  5. in repentance, as well as for the dead – 50;
  6. from the evil eye and damage – 7.

This is only a small part of the enumerations when it is necessary to read a psalm, the main thing is that the prayer must be said with a sense of faith.

WHAT IS A CHURCH NOTE?

Before the revolution, for commemoration in church, the priest was usually given special small books with the names of living and departed Orthodox Christians - memorial books. A modern church note is a one-time commemoration “On health” or “On repose.” Those. this is a list of names of those you ask to pray for during the service. IF I PERSONALLY COME TO THE CHURCH SHOP AND SUBMIT NOTES “ON HEALTH” AND “ON REST,” WILL THIS BE A STRONGER PRAYER THAN ORDERING MEMORIES ON THE MONASTERY’S WEBSITE?

Powerful prayer is prayer with attention, reverence and repentance. You can, without leaving your workplace or staying at home, submit notes for a proskomedia for a period of 40 days (Sorokoust) or a year on the official website of the St. Nicholas Monastery bolshekulachie.ru/zakaz/ Commemoration, which will be performed at the Divine Liturgy after ordering on the Internet , exactly the same as if you personally handed over a list of names to an icon shop. It is not important whether on the website or in the church itself you asked to perform a church prayer for the health and repose of your loved ones, it is important whether you yourself turn to the Lord with words of gratitude, request and glorification. It is no coincidence that Saint Theophan the Recluse said: “What is our attitude towards God, such is our prayer; such is our prayer, such is our attitude towards God.” WHEN WILL THEY START REMEMBERING THE NAMES THAT I HAVE WRITTEN IN THE NOTES SUBMITTED THROUGH THE SITE?

All the names that you indicated in a special form on the website of the St. Nicholas Monastery bolshekulachie.ru/zakaz/ are recorded in the synodics and commemoration begins starting from the next day for forty days (Sorokoust) or a year.

On some days of Lent and other dates, when, according to the regulations, proskomedia with the removal of particles is not performed, notes submitted for long periods are simply read during the service. I WANT TO PRAY FOR MY LOVED ONES AT THE SERVICE WHERE I CAN RECEIVE COMMUNION. WHICH NOTE SHOULD I SUBMIT - FOR THE LITURGY, FOR THE EUCHARIST, FOR THE PROSKOMIDI OR FOR LUNCH?

Let's first figure out what the words “Divine Liturgy”, “Eucharist”, “proskomedia” and “mass” mean.

Liturgy (from Greek “common cause”) is the most important church service performed for the sake of the sacrament of Communion, otherwise called the Eucharist.

The Eucharist (from Greek “thanksgiving”) is the main sacrament of the Church, established by the Savior Himself on the eve of suffering on the cross, death and resurrection. After preliminary preparation, and in special cases without it, every Orthodox Christian can participate in this sacrament, partaking (eating) under the guise of bread and wine the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and eternal life.

Proskomedia (from Greek “offering”) is the first part of the Divine Liturgy, when the priest prepares bread and wine for the sacrament of the Eucharist. Bread is prosphora, i.e. round bread made from yeast wheat dough, and the wine is Cahors, a strong, sweet natural red wine that does not lose its taste when diluted with water.

It is during the commemoration at the proskomedia that the priest takes out from the prosphora pieces about the health and repose of those Christians whose names are listed in the notes submitted with the help of an icon shop employee or on the Internet. At the St. Nicholas Monastery, you can order a commemoration at the proskomedia for forty days (Sorokoust) or a year. This can be done on the monastery website bolshekulachie.ru/zakaz/

Also, the names of those for whom they were asked to pray can be remembered by the clergy at the litany (publicly, i.e. out loud, or secretly, i.e. silently, depending on the tradition of the parish and the number of notes) and during the singing of “It is Worthy to Eat” .

At the end of the Divine Liturgy, after the communion of the laity, the particles taken from the prosphora for our neighbors are immersed in the Holy Chalice with the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. At the same time, the priest says a prayer: “Wash away, Lord, the sins of those who were remembered here with Your Honest Blood, through the prayers of Your saints.” Prosphora particles, saturated with the Life-giving Blood of Christ, are sanctified, and this sanctification is transferred to the souls of the living and deceased people for whom they were offered. When the Holy Gifts are consumed at the altar, these particles are also consumed by the priest or deacon.

The naming of the first part of the Liturgy is associated with the custom of early Christian communities to bring with them bread, wine, and in general everything necessary for the celebration of the Sacrament (oil for lamps, incense, etc.). Therefore, the bread consumed at the proskomedia received the name prosphora, which means “offering.”

To this day, in some Orthodox Churches (for example, in Greece or Serbia) you can find small parishes where believers themselves bake simple prosphora and hand them over to the altar along with lists of the names of those for whom they wish to pray during the Liturgy.

Mass (from the well-understood word “lunch”) is the common name for the Divine Liturgy, which arose because this service is usually performed in the first half of the day, before lunch.

Thus, notes for the liturgy, for the Eucharist, for the proskomedia or for mass are notes for the same service. Usually in church shops they are called notes for proskomedia. CAN I ASK A PRIEST TO REMOVE THE PARTICLES ON PROSKOMIDIA FROM MY HOMEMADE BREAD?

This is not accepted these days. Now we simply donate money, and the temple employees themselves purchase flour, yeast, Cahors and other things necessary for the service, and bake the prosphora themselves.

During proskomedia, five special large prosphoras and an unlimited number of ordinary small ones are used. Without going into a detailed story about the first three large prosphoras, we will dwell on the fourth and fifth. It is for the sake of the fourth prosphora that we present notes “On health” before the Divine Liturgy. From this prosphora the priest takes out particles for the living members of the Church of Christ, starting with His Holiness the Patriarch and the ruling diocesan bishop. As a rule, there are a lot of notes with names, so particles for the living ones commemorated are also taken out from the St. Nicholas Monastery. Proskomedia: Notes on the health and repose of additional prosphoras. The fifth prosphora was prepared for our prayer for the departed. When all the notes “On Repose” have been read, the priest again takes the fourth prosphora and takes out a piece for himself with the words: “Remember, Lord, my unworthiness and forgive me every sin, voluntary and involuntary.”

The particles taken out according to our notes are placed on a special liturgical dish - a paten, where the Lamb and other particles already lie, symbolizing the entire Church. The Lamb is the central part of the first prosphora, carved in the shape of a cube. It is the Lamb during the celebration of the Eucharistic canon that becomes the true Body of Christ. Other particles are triangular in shape and are dedicated to the Virgin Mary and the saints.

“At the proskomedia, the entire Church, heavenly and earthly, is figuratively presented gathered around the Lamb who takes away the sins of the world... What a close connection is between the Lord and His saints, between Him and those who live piously on earth and those who die in faith and piety: remember what a close connection is between us and the saints and those who have died in Christ, and love everyone as members of the Lord and as your own members,” exhorts the holy righteous John of Kronstadt. - How close to each other are the inhabitants of heaven and the inhabitants of earth, and the Mother of God and all the saints, and all of us, Orthodox Christians, when the divine, universal, transcendental, universal Liturgy is celebrated! My God! What a joyful, life-giving communication!”

What then happens to these particles, you already know from the answer to the first question. CAN I ACCEPT THE BODY OF CHRIST AT THE TIME OF COMMUNION UNDER THE VIEW OF PARTICLES OF THOSE PROSPORAS FROM WHICH THE PARTICLES ABOUT THE HEALTH AND REST OF MY LOVED ONES WERE TAKEN OUT?

No. For communion, only one prosphora is used, called the lamb prosphora. IS IT ENOUGH TO SUBMIT REGISTRATIONS FOR THE PROSKOMIDI OR DO YOU NEED TO GO TO THE TEMPLE AND LIGHT A CANDLE?

When submitting notes for proskomedia, try to pray at the Divine Liturgy as often as possible and take part in the Eucharist. Remember that communion with the Body and Blood of Christ is a commandment of the Lord, who commanded us all: “Take, eat: this is My Body” and “drink of it, all of you, for this is My Blood of the New Testament” (Matthew 26:26-28) .

As stated in the document “On the Participation of the Faithful in the Eucharist,” “the Church itself is the Body of Christ, and therefore the Sacrament of the Body and Blood of Christ visibly reveals the mystical nature of the Church, creating the church community. The spiritual life of an Orthodox Christian is unthinkable without communion of the Holy Mysteries. By partaking of the Holy Gifts, believers are sanctified by the power of the Holy Spirit and united with Christ the Savior and with each other, constituting the one Body of Christ.”

The document “On the participation of the faithful in the Eucharist” was approved at the Bishops’ Conference of the Russian Orthodox Church, held on February 2-3, 2015 in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. You can read its full text on the page www.patriarchia.ru/db/text/3981166.html From this document you will learn how to prepare yourself and prepare your children for Holy Communion. WHY SHOULD I WRITE SOMEONE'S NAMES IN NOTES FOR PROSKOMIDIA? I WILL ALSO PRAY FOR MY LOVED ONES.

Through the mention of a person at the Liturgy, we ask the Lord for help and blessings. The centuries-old experience of the Church testifies that commemoration at the proskomedia, the removal of particles for health and repose, and then immersion in the chalice with the Holy Gifts is the most effective prayer. A bloodless sacrifice is performed for all those commemorated at the proskomedia; they also participate in the Divine Liturgy.

The elder of the Goloseevsky monastery of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra Alexy, now glorified as a locally revered saint, being a hieromonk, bore obedience at the relics of St. Theodosius of Chernigov. One day, exhausted, he fell asleep next to the shrine and saw Saint Theodosius, who thanked him for his efforts and asked him to remember his parents, Priest Nikita and Maria, at the Liturgy. Father Alexy was amazed that a holy man really needs the prayer of a priest on earth, if he himself stands before the throne of God in heaven. Saint Theodosius briefly admonished his brother: “The offering at the Liturgy is stronger than my prayers.”

Saint Gregory Dvoeslov recalled the fate after death of one careless monk who sinned with the love of money. According to the command of the saint, in addition to the common prayer of the brethren, thirty funeral liturgies were served for the deceased. When the thirtieth Divine Liturgy was celebrated, the soul of the monk appeared to encourage and console his brother. “Until now, brother, I suffered cruelly and terribly, but now I feel good, and I am in the light,” said the monk.

Commemoration at the Divine Liturgy is the highest good for those who are dear to us. WHAT, EXCEPT THE NAME OF A BAPTIZED ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN, SHOULD BE WRITTEN IN NOTES FOR THE PROSKOMEDIA?

In addition to the name given at baptism or (for monks) at tonsure, the holy order or degree of monasticism, if any, should be indicated.

It is acceptable, but not at all obligatory, to write brief information about the living and the deceased, for example, ml. (baby, that is, a child under 7 years old), neg. (adolescent or young woman - up to 14 years old), c. (warrior), bol. (sick, painful), concl. (prisoner, prisoner), put. (travelling, traveling), ub. (killed, killed).

Surnames, patronymics, worldly ranks and titles, degrees of relationship are not needed, as well as definitions such as “suffering”, “embarrassed”, “needy”, “lost”, etc. An exception is the words “newly deceased” or “ever remembered” if you are submitting a note “On repose”. The deceased is called “newly deceased” for forty days after his death, and “ever remembered” - annually on his birthday, name day, and death day. IS A NOTE FOR THE PROSKOMIDE “ON HEALTH” WRITTEN FOR THE SAKE OF THOSE WHO ARE SICK?

Not necessary. By “health” we mean not only good physical shape, vigor, high tone, but also the spiritual state of a person, harmony with God, with the Church, with others. In the note to the proskomedia “On Health,” write the names of everyone to whom you wish salvation and prosperity. I DON’T KNOW IF IT IS WORTH INCLUDING IN THE NOTE FOR THE PROSKOMEDIA “ON HEALTH” THE NAME OF THE CONCEPTOR AND, EVEN MORE, THE NAMES OF OUR RULING BISHOP AND THE HOLY PATRIARCH - MANY PEOPLE PRAY FOR THEM AND SO...

In the spiritual world, it is not arithmetic that is strong, but love. Of course, the whole Church prays for the Patriarch, and if we, out of love, also want to pray for him, then we will write his name in our note. And it is our duty to always pray for our confessor, as well as for our parents.

According to tradition, the name of the Patriarch is written first, followed by the archpastor, confessor and other clergy who instruct you and take care of the salvation of your soul, then the names of parents, family members, loved ones and relatives. IF I HAVE AN ENEMY OR ENVY, SHOULD I WRITE HIS NAME IN THE NOTE TO THE PROSKOMIDE “ON HEALTH”?

Definitely. So you will fulfill the command of Christ: “Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who despitefully use you and persecute you” (Matthew 5:44). Prayer during the Divine Liturgy for the reconciliation of warring parties is a great force for establishing peace. IS THE NOTE FOR THE PROSKOMIDIA “ON RESTING” ONLY SUBMITTED FOR BLOOD RELATIVES?

No. At proskomedia, particles are taken out not only for our closest relatives, but also for the entire family, for everyone who did good to us in earthly life, helped, instructed, supported. Or vice versa - for those with whom we did not have time to reconcile in earthly life, for offenders, for those who were at enmity with us or our loved ones.

Just as we pray for the living, so we must pray for the dead. SOROKOST IS A PRAYER FOR RELATION?

Not at all necessary. Sorokoust is a forty-day commemoration of a deceased or living Christian during the Divine Liturgy. SOROKOST SHOULD ONLY BE ORDERED ON THE DAY OF THE DEATH OF THE PERSON WHOSE SOUL I ASK TO PRAY FOR?

It’s great if you manage to submit a note “On repose” on the day of death (in this case the name is written with the addition of “newly deceased”), but in other cases do not refuse the magpie or the annual commemoration of the soul of a deceased Orthodox Christian.

We understand how difficult it is to deal with funerals and other concerns during this difficult period. To save time and effort, you can write a note “On repose” on the website of the St. Nicholas Monastery bolshekulachie.ru/zakaz/ SOROKOST – IS THIS A MODERN FICTION OR “A DEEP TRADITION OF ANTIQUE”?

In the New Testament Church there is an ancient custom, which came from the practice of the Old Testament Jews, to mourn the dead for forty days. Christians pray intensely for the soul of the deceased for forty days (sorokoust) and especially on the fortieth day (sorochin). St. Simeon of Thessaloniki wrote: “The Forty-mouths are performed in remembrance of the Ascension of the Lord, which happened on the fortieth day after the Resurrection, and with the purpose that the deceased, rising from the grave, ascended to meet the Lord, being caught up into the clouds, and so would always be with the Lord.” .

The healthy magpie entered church tradition later than the prayer for the newly deceased. We pray for health for forty Liturgies, remembering how Christ defeated the devil, spending forty days in fasting and prayer. By making a bloodless sacrifice, we ask the Lord for grace to defeat the enemy, the airy prince of darkness, and receive the Kingdom of Heaven as an inheritance. IN MANY CHURCHES, IN ADDITION TO THE ORDINARY NOTES FOR THE PROSKOMEDIA “ON HEALTH” AND “ON THE REST OF REST,” CUSTOM NOTES ACCEPT. HOW ARE THEY DIFFERENT, EXCEPT THE SIZE OF THE DONATION?

The ordered note is read at the proskomedia (and particles are taken out for those who are recorded there), and then the same note is commemorated out loud by the deacon (and if there are many notes, by the priests in the altar) at the Liturgy, during the great or funeral litany.

As for donations for commemoration at the proskomedia and for vocal commemoration at the Liturgy, the latter is usually larger, if only so that the number of names proclaimed aloud does not turn the Divine Liturgy into many hours of reading notes. IF I SUBMIT NOTES TO PROSKOMIDE ON THE INTERNET, I WILL NOT SEE HOW THEY WERE READ, TAKE OUT PARTICLES ABOUT HEALTH AND REST. BUT, WHEN I GO TO THE CHURCH, I CAN MAKE SURE THAT MY LOVED ONES ARE REALLY REMEMBERED...

Every note submitted to the proskomedia must be read, regardless of where you submitted it - on the website page bolshekulachie.ru/zakaz/ or in an icon shop. But you are unlikely to be able to see the proskomedia with your own eyes in any case, since without a blessing to enter the altar it is impossible.

Proskomedia is performed by the priest on the altar altar (a quadrangular table that stands to the left of the throne) with the Royal Doors closed. At this moment you won’t even be able to hear the names of people dear to you, because... they are read in a low voice, and in the central part of the temple the prayers pronounced by the reader are heard loudly. What kind of prayers are they for health and peace? No, usually it's the Third and Sixth Hours. The exclamation “Blessed be our God,” which precedes the reading of the Third Hour, is also the beginning of the proskomedia.

Listen carefully to the words of the Divine Liturgy, and you will not miss those moments when the entire church will pray for the health or repose of their brothers and sisters in Christ. I WANT TO READ MY NOTES ON PROSKOMIDIA, HOW TO DO THIS?

At the proskomedia, all notes are read in the altar part of the church, where a layman cannot enter without the blessing of the abbot (women do not enter the altar). This is done by clergy or clergy.

After submitting your notes for proskomedia, do not leave “independent” prayer. The Monk Paisius the Svyatogorets teaches: “When you remember names to yourself, your heart should participate in the pain of every soul you remember, be it a living or deceased person. Bring to your mind all human needs in general and specifically the one for whom you are praying, and ask: “Remember, Lord... Mary, Nicholas... You, my God, know what difficulties they have. Help them." Remember the names that are given to you for commemoration at several Divine Liturgies - some at three, some at five. Remember the remaining names secondarily. So what - you constantly remember some, but don’t remember others who need prayerful help at all? I don't understand this. The names of Catholics, Jehovah's Witnesses and other heretics cannot be mentioned at the proskomedia. You cannot take out a piece for them, nor serve a memorial service. And we can pray for their health and enlightenment, and even sing a prayer canon.” HOW MANY NAMES CAN BE WRITTEN IN ONE NOTE FOR SOROKOSTA OR PROSKOMIDE DURING THE YEAR?

St. Nicholas Monastery. Sorokoust about the living and the dead (can be ordered on the website) The number of names is unlimited. When compiling the list, it is worth considering that the size of the proposed donation for a forty-day (Sorokoust) or annual commemoration depends on the number of names.

You can submit notes to the proskomedia “On Health” and “On Repose” with the names of all Orthodox Christians whom you wish to remember at the main divine service of the Orthodox Church on the website of the St. Nicholas Monastery bolshekulachie.ru/zakaz/

You will be asked to make a modest donation for monastic needs for each name that will be commemorated at the Divine Liturgy daily for forty days (Sorokoust) or a year. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT A PRIEST IS ABLE TO READ THOUSANDS OF NAMES ON THE PROSKOMIDIA...

If there are few notes (for example, it is a weekday and the parish is small), then the priest reads them himself. If we are talking about, say, a cathedral on the Twelfth Feast or Mother's Saturday, then, of course, the priest is helped by readers and sextons. They stand next to the altar and quietly read the names, and the priest takes out particles from the prosphora with the words: “Remember, Lord.”

Of course, there are exceptions, but they are very rare. For example, the already mentioned holy righteous John of Kronstadt prayed at the proskomedia in a special way. “At the proskomedia performed by Father John, there were so many prosphoras that they were brought in large baskets. Many personally approached the priest with a request to remember their relatives, to remove a piece from at least one prosphora. In addition, Father John received over a thousand letters and telegrams every day with requests to pray for the healing of patients deemed hopeless by doctors. They wrote not only from all over Russia, but also from other countries, from Asia and America. The priest had secretaries to read these letters and telegrams and to respond to them. The question arises: how did those sick people that their relatives asked for in these letters and telegrams receive healing through the prayers of Father John, since the priest physically did not have time to read them? And here’s how... Mountains of correspondence lay before Father John, and he, taking out particles from the prosphora, boldly, with hope in God’s mercy, cried out: “Remember, Lord, all those who commanded me to pray for them.” This short prayer of the great saint of God was enough for the Divine grace that abided in the priest to perform miracles in all corners of the universe” (Victoria Korkhova “Wonderful Father”). IN THE CHURCH STORE, THEY GAVE ME A PROSPHORON, FROM WHICH SOMEONE TOOK A PIECE OUT OF WHICH SOMEONE TOOK A PIECE OUT, IS IT SUPPOSED TO BE, OR DID I GET A “DEFECTIVE” PROSPORA?

Everything is fine. The priest takes out a particle from the prosphora for each name written in the note for the proskomedia. If there are hundreds of notes, then one particle is taken out for several names. Not only the pieces taken out are blessed, but also all the prosphora. After the proskomedia, the prosphora are transferred to the candle box (icon shop). WHERE WILL THE NOTES WITH THE NAMES OF PEOPLE DEAR TO ME GO AFTER THE LITURGY? I DON'T WANT THEM TO BE LAYING IN A PILE OF TRASH.

After the memorial, all notes are burned. CAN I SUBMIT ENTRIES FOR PROSKOMIDIA ANY DAY OF THE YEAR?

Yes, you can submit notes to the proskomedia on the eve of the service or a few days before the desired date of commemoration. However, it is worth clarifying whether the Divine Liturgy will be served on that day. The Divine Liturgy is celebrated daily only in large churches, and in small parishes only on Sundays and church holidays.

There are days when the Liturgy is not served at all, these are: 1. Before Lent in the final week (Cheese, or in common people Maslenitsa) on Wednesday and Friday. 2. During Lent on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as on Good Friday. 3. On the Friday before the holidays of the Nativity of Christ and the Epiphany, when they fall on Sunday or Monday.

If the Divine Liturgy is not served on the day you need (name day, birthday, anniversary of death, etc.), you can submit a note for proskomedia for the nearest date (without indicating “ever remembered”, etc.). HOW OFTEN ARE IT ALLOWED TO SUBMIT NOTES FOR REMEMBRANCE AT PROSKOMIDIA?

There are no restrictions, because we always, both during life and after death, need the mercy of God, which cleanses and saves us. Ask for the prayers of the Church and offerings for us and for our loved ones, living and deceased, sacrifices of the Holy Gifts as often as possible. If you do not have the opportunity to be present in the temple every day, submit notes immediately for forty days or a year. This can be done on the website of the St. Nicholas Monastery bolshekulachie.ru/zakaz/ I KNOW THAT THERE ARE DIFFERENT LITURGIES, AND ARE THE NOTES FOR THE PROSKOMEDIA ALSO DIFFERENT IN SOMETHING?

In modern parish practice of the Russian Orthodox Church, three types of Divine Liturgy are common: 1. Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, 2. Liturgy of St. Basil the Great and 3. Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts (also known as the Liturgy of St. Gregory the Great, the Double-Speaker, Pope of Rome).

Notes for the proskomedia are “On health” and “On repose.” The souls of living and deceased Christians, for whom the priest removes particles from the prosphora, are equally remembered at the Liturgy according to any rite. At the same time, formally the proskomedia is not part of the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts, since the Holy Gifts for this Liturgy are prepared in advance. IF I ORDER A SOROKOST IN FORTY TEMPLES, WILL THIS PRAYER BE ESPECIALLY POWERFUL?

You can submit notes for proskomedia for health and repose to any number of Orthodox churches, depending on your pious zeal and material capabilities, but the opinion about such a mechanical “strengthening” of prayer is deeply erroneous, it comes from the realm of prejudice and magic. IS IT POSSIBLE TO WRITE YOUR NAME IN THE NOTE “ON HEALTH” TO THE PROSKOMIDE, OR IS THIS A SIN OF PRIDE?

Of course you can. Many church prayers contain petitions about ourselves. For example, at the end of the litany in the rite of Great Compline, we “recite about ourselves too.” If you are afraid of falling into the sin of pride, you can, as a sign of humility before the Lord, write your name last in the “Health” note. I HAVE MANY UNBAPTIZED RELATIVES, BOTH LIVING AND DEAD, HOW DO I REMEMBER THEM AT THE DIVINE LITURGY?

A person who does not want to unite himself with the Church of Christ cannot be remembered at the Divine Liturgy. In the notes for the proskomedia we write the names only of those who received Holy Baptism. Your spiritual duty is to pray for unbaptized relatives at home, try to change your life for the better, and be faithful to Christ.

By remembering deceased unbaptized relatives, you can do good deeds in their honor and memory. A PERSON CLOSE TO ME COMMITTED HIMSELF WHILE IN A STATE OF SEVERE MENTAL DISORDER. HE WAS BAPTIZED, SO I WANT TO ENTER HIS NAME IN THE NOTE FOR THE PROSKOMIDIA. IS THIS POSSIBLE?

The question of the funeral service and church commemoration of a suicide can only be decided by the ruling bishop of the region where the deceased lived. You have the right to appeal to him with a request to recognize the suicide as unconscious. Only after this issue has been positively resolved by the bishop will you be able to submit a note to the proskomedia. In the meantime, remember the deceased in home prayer, do deeds of mercy in his memory.

If a baptized person committed suicide consciously, then it is better to begin even home prayer for his soul only after the blessing of the priest. AMONG MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS THERE ARE BAPTISTS, CATHOLICS, JEWS AND MUSLIMS. I DO NOT LIST THE NAMES OF THE LAST IN THE NOTES FOR THE PROSKOMIDIA, BUT I WANT TO WRITE THE NAMES OF CHRISTIANS, ALSO OF A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT FAITH, AND ALSO OF UNBAPTIZED JEWS, BECAUSE WE HAVE ONE LORD. THIS IS RIGHT?

As for commemoration at the proskomedia, it makes no difference what religious tradition a person belongs to if he is not in the bosom of the Orthodox Church. People of any other faith are remembered as unbaptized. Their names should not be written in notes for the Divine Liturgy. Pray for them at home and, if one of them has already passed away, do good deeds in their memory. I WANT TO WRITE IN A NOTE TO THE PROSKOMIDIA THE NAMES OF “SPOUSES” WHO ARE CURRENTLY LIVING IN FORMINATION (I.E. WITHOUT REGISTRATION IN THE REGISTRY OFFICE), BUT I AM NOT SURE IF THIS IS ALLOWED...

Of course, church commemoration at proskomedia of people who deliberately commit a mortal sin is unacceptable. But the main thing here is precisely the measure of consciousness. It's one thing if a couple sins purposefully. It’s different if one person strives for marriage, and the other is against it. Third, if both are far from churchgoing. It is better to seek advice from a priest familiar with this particular family situation. I LOVE MY PETS, THEY ARE MEMBERS OF MY FAMILY, CAN I WRITE THEIR NAMES IN THE NOTE FOR THE PROSKOMIDE?

We are called to care for pets, but it is not customary to remember them during the Divine Liturgy or any other church service. In the sacraments of the Church, we pray for the immortal human soul, and with a prayer for the health of your pet, you can turn to the Lord at home, but you should not anoint a sick animal with blessed oil or sprinkle it with holy water. IF I SUBMIT AN ENTRY FOR THE PROSKOMIDIA THROUGH THE INTERNET SITE, WHERE WILL I RECEIVE THE PROSFORA?

The practice of issuing prosphora to those who submit notes to the proskomedia is nothing more than a local custom. It has nothing to do with the church prayer for the health and repose of the Christians whose names you wrote in the notes for the proskomedia. WHAT IS THE BISHOP'S PROSKOMIDIA? IS IT POSSIBLE TO SUBMIT ENTRIES FOR THIS PROSKOMIDE?

When serving the Divine Liturgy as a bishop, the bishop enters the altar when the priest has already performed the first proskomedia, for which we submitted notes “On health” and “On repose.” At the same time, the offering of the Honest Gifts is on the altar, and at the beginning of the Great Entrance the second proskomedia occurs, when the bishop commemorates the living and departed children of the Orthodox Church. To do this, he, just like the priest before, removes particles from the prosphora. All our notes have already been read by this time.

How is the psalter read?

It is not always possible to read the psalms in a community, but you can try your hand alone. This will require very little effort, namely:

  • the text must be read clearly and out loud, the words must be clearly audible;
  • accents must be placed correctly;
  • pronounce all words correctly so that the meaning of the prayer remains true;
  • when reading the psalm, there is no need to invest any emotions, the text should sound monotonous and slightly intoned;
  • When reading a prayer, one should not allow theatricality, because this is an appeal to God.

When reading the psalm, it is not necessary to stand; you can read it while sitting.
