What is the troparion of Easter

Like most troparions, this is a short saying that reveals the whole essence of the holiday. Like the troparions of the Lord's feasts (unlike the troparions of other holidays), the Troparion of Easter can often be repeated as a refrain to the verses of the psalm, and can also be used separately (most often three times). Its authorship is unknown. According to the Colored Triodion, it is sung “in voice 5,” but in our time an immense number of melodies have been selected for it.

How the troparion is sung

The troparion is first performed at the beginning of Matins during the Easter all-night vigil at the end of the procession around the temple, in front of the closed entrance gates of which everyone gathers. Then (at midnight) the clergy and believers take turns singing this troparion, which is then used as a refrain to individual verses from Psalms 67 and 117 (according to Septuagint numbering):

After St. Thomas Week (the next Sunday after Easter), the Easter troparion is either sung or read three times at the beginning of all public services, private services and other prayers instead of the usual invocation of the Holy Spirit, “Heavenly King,” as well as on vacation, during the 39-day Easter after-feast; that is, until the Ascension of the Lord. At the same time, the Troparion of Easter is also sung during the akathists to the Resurrection of Christ.
