Ceremony of the general prayer service (according to the Book of Hours, p. 176)

Prayer service with akathist - what is it?

There are many different concepts in the Christian faith that are unknown to many people.
A prayer service is a short service performed by a priest. Each person can order a prayer service for the health of themselves, their relatives and other people. The prayer service can also be laudatory. A prayer service, when the priest reads a hymn of praise dedicated to the saint to whom one turns in prayer, is called a prayer service with an akathist. Public prayer usually takes place after the liturgy and can take place either in the morning or in the evening. Private prayer services are also allowed, which can be performed not only in the temple, but also at home. The prayer service with akathist is performed in the center of the temple only on holidays. As for ordinary days, this takes place in front of the icon of the saint, who is addressed and praised.

A prayer service with an akathist to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and other saints must be held standing, since sitting is prohibited. The most famous akathist is dedicated to the Most Holy Theotokos. It consists of 25 songs, which include 13 kontakia and 12 ikos. The kontakia tell the condensed content of the holiday or the life story of the Saint. Ikos is a song that praises and glorifies a Saint or a holiday. At the end of each prayer service, a prayer is read to whom exactly the service was served. After this, the priests inform all people that the prayer service is over and it is called “Dismissal.”

What is the difference between a prayer service and a magpie?

Unlike the prayer service, the magpie is read at the Liturgy 40 times or 40 days. There is one more difference, and it lies in the fact that magpie is not only about health, but also about repose. This powerful prayer can be ordered for six months or even a year. It is recommended to order Sorokoust in three churches at once.

>Water Blessing Prayer

General prayer service to the Mother of God.

Prayer singing with the canon of the Most Holy Theotokos and reading of the Holy Gospel. The text is adapted for private (home) reading.

Through the prayers of the saints, our fathers, Lord Jesus Christ, our God, have mercy on us.
Amen. Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.

Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of truth, Who is everywhere and fulfills everything, Treasure of good things and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Good One, souls ours.

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (Thrice.)

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us; Lord, cleanse our sins; Master, forgive our iniquities; Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Thy name's sake.

Lord, have mercy (three times). Glory, and now:

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done, as it is in Heaven and on earth. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, just as we forgive our debtors; and do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

Lord have mercy, (12 times). Glory, and now:

Come, let us worship the King our God.

Come, let us worship and fall down before Christ, our King God.

Come, let us bow and fall down to Christ Himself, the King and our God.

And abiye Psalm 143:

Lord, hear my prayer, inspire my prayer in Your truth, hear me in Your righteousness, and do not enter into judgment with Your servant, for no one living will be justified before You. For the enemy drove away my soul, humbled my life to eat, and planted me to eat in the dark, like the dead ages. And my Spirit is sad within me, my heart is troubled within me. I have remembered the days of old, I have learned in all Your works, I have learned Your hand in all creation. I lift up my hands to You, my soul, like a waterless land to You. Hear me quickly, Lord, my spirit has disappeared, do not turn Your face away from me, and I will become like those who go down into the pit. I hear you show me Your mercy in the morning, for I have trusted in You. Tell me, Lord, I will go the other way, because I have taken my soul to You. Deliver me from my enemies, Lord, I have fled to You. Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God. Your Good Spirit will guide me to rightness on earth. For Thy name's sake, Lord, live me, by Thy righteousness remove my soul from sorrow. And Your mercy will consume my enemies and destroy all my cold souls, for I am Your servant.

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, and now, and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

We also sing: God is the Lord and He has appeared to us, blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord , the same for each verse:

Verse: Confess to the Lord that He is Good, for His mercy endures forever.

Verse: They went around me and resisted them in the name of the Lord.

Verse: I will not die, but I will live and carry out the works of the Lord.

Verse: The stone that was built carelessly, this was at the head of the corner, this came from the Lord and is marvelous in our hands.

Also the troparion to the Mother of God, tone 4:

Let us now approach the Mother of God diligently, sinners and humility, and let us fall down in repentance calling from the depths of our souls: Lady, help us, having mercy on us, struggling, we perish from many sins, do not turn away and your slaves are vain, for you and the only hope of the imams. (Twice)

Glory even now: We will never be silent, O Mother of God, from Your unworthy words: even if you were not there to pray, who would save us from such troubles, who would keep us free to this day, we will not retreat, O Lady, from You , Your servants save always from all kinds of evil ones.

Also Psalm 50:

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy, and according to the multitude of Your compassions, cleanse my iniquity. Above all, wash me from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my iniquity, and I will take away my sin before me. I have sinned against You alone, and I have created the evil one before You, so that You may be justified in Your words and overcome, never judge You. Behold, I was conceived in iniquities, and my mother gave birth to me in sins. Behold, you loved the truth, you showed me your unknown and secret wisdom. Sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Give joy and gladness to my hearing; humble bones will rejoice. Turn away Your face from my sins, and cleanse all my iniquities. Create a pure heart in me, O God, and renew a right spirit in my womb. Do not turn me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit away from me. Give me the joy of Your salvation, and strengthen me with the Lord’s Spirit. I will teach the wicked your way, and wickedness will turn to you. Deliver me from bloodshed, O God, God of my salvation, my tongue will rejoice in Your righteousness. Lord, open my mouth, and my mouth will declare Your praise. As if you had wanted sacrifices, you would have given burnt offerings without being pleased. The sacrifice to God is a contrite spirit, a contrite and humble heart, God will not despise. Bless Zion, O Lord, with Your favor, and may the walls of Jerusalem be built. Then you are pleased with the sacrifice of righteousness, the wave offering and the burnt offering, then they will lay the bullock on Your altar.

Here we honor the canon of the Mother of God

By the third song

Save Thy servants from troubles, Mother of God, / as we all resort to You according to God, / as an unbreakable wall and intercession.

Look with kindness, O all-sung Mother of God, / on my fierce embitterment of the body, / and heal my soul and illness.

Lord, have mercy, three times.

Troparion, tone 2:

Warm prayer and an invincible wall, / the source of mercy, the world’s refuge, / we diligently cry out to Thee: / Mother of God, Lady, advance, / and deliver us from troubles, / the only one who will soon appear.

For 6 songs.

Kontakion, tone 6:

The representation of Christians is not shameful, / intercession to the Creator is immutable, / do not despise the voices of sinful prayers, / but advance, like the Good One, to the aid of us, / faithfully calling to You; / hasten to prayer, and strive to entreat, / ever presenting, O Mother of God, those who honor Thee.

Ikos:

Stretch out Thy hand, and above all Thou hast received the Lord as the Child for the multitude of goodness, / do not forsake us, who always hope in Thee, with Thy cheerful prayer, / and with countless sheets of generosity us, / and grant to our souls Your mercy, flowing forever, / to You for the imams are sinners, the Intercessor from the troubles and evils that come upon us. / But as you have the mercy of generosity, / hasten to prayer and strive to entreat, / always interceding, O Mother of God, those who honor Thee.

Another kontakion, the same voice:

Not imams of other help, / not imams of other hope, / except for You, Most Pure Virgin. / Help us, / We trust in You, and we boast in You, / For we are Your servants, let us not be ashamed.

Lord, have mercy, (thrice) Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Reading from Luke of the Holy Gospel.

Glory to You, Lord, glory to You.

And the Gospel:

In those days, Miriam arose and went to the Mountain with diligence, to the city of Judah. And Zechariah went into the house and kissed Elizabeth. And when Elizabeth heard Marino’s kiss, the baby leaped in her womb: and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. And he cried with a great voice and said: Blessed are You among women, and blessed is the Fruit of Your womb. And where do I get this, so that the Mother of my Lord may come to me? Behold, as the voice of your kiss came into my ear, the baby leaped with joy in my womb. And blessed is she who believed, for the things spoken to her by the Lord will be accomplished. And Miriam said: My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God, my Savior. For He has looked upon the humility of His servant: behold, from now on all your father and mother will bless Me. For the Mighty One has done great things for Me, and holy is His name. So Miriam stayed with her for three months and returned to her house.

Glory to You, Lord, glory to You.

And abie on voice 6:

Glory: Through the prayers of the Mother of God, O Most Merciful, cleanse our many sins.

And now: Through the prayers of the Mother of God, O Most Merciful, cleanse our many sins.

The same verse: Have mercy on me, O God, according to your great mercy, and according to the multitude of your compassions, cleanse my iniquity.

Stichera, same voice:

Do not entrust me to human intercession, / Most Holy Lady, / but accept the prayer of Your servant: / for sorrow will support me, / I cannot endure demonic shooting, / there is no protection for the imam, / below where I will take refuge, oh born, / we always win, / and there is no consolation Imam, don’t you, the Lady of the world, / the hope and representation of the faithful, / despise my prayer, make it useful.

By song 9

Abiye: It is worthy to eat as you truly bless Theotokos, Ever-Blessed and Most Immaculate and Mother of our God. We magnify You, the most honorable cherub and the most glorious seraphim without comparison, who gave birth to the Word without the corruption of God, the real Mother of God.

Theotokos, tone 2:

The highest of the heavens, / and the purest of the lordships of the sun, / who delivered us from the oath, / The Lady of the world, / we will honor with songs.

Because of my many sins / my body is weak, / my soul is also weak: / I come to You with greater grace, / the hope of the unreliable, / help me.

Mistress and Mother of the Deliverer, / accept the prayer / of Your unworthy servants, / that you may intercede with Him who was born of You. / O Lady of the world, be the Intercessor!

I diligently sing a song to You now / joyfully to the all-sung Mother of God, / with the Forerunner and all the saints, / pray to the Mother of God, / to spare us.

(Mute are the lips of the wicked, / who do not worship your honorable image, / which was written by the most holy Apostle Luke, / Hodegetria.)

All the hosts of angels, / Forerunner of the Lord, / the apostles of the Twelve, all the saints / with the Mother of God, say a prayer, / that we may be saved.

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (Thrice.)

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Lord have mercy (three times)

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, through the prayers of Your Most Pure Mother and all the saints, have mercy and save us, as you are Good and Lover of Mankind.

The end and glory to God!

How does the water blessing prayer take place?

For the blessing of water, a table is brought to the center of the temple, on which a large bowl of water is placed, and the Gospel and the Crucifix are placed. The water-blessing prayer is read from service books - special books. The priest pronounces an ektinya - a prayer of supplication about why this prayer service is being served. The water-blessing prayer service is often addressed to the Most Holy Theotokos (in front of her icons: the Inexhaustible Chalice, the All-Tsarina, Kazan, Vladimir =), St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, St. Matrona of Moscow, Xenia of St. Petersburg. The rite sequence will read the names from the notes submitted by parishioners, but the sequence itself may be different. For example, if an akathist is read, the service will last longer.

Holy water: church traditions and parachurch superstitions of the blessing of water

An approximate order looks like this:

  • They bring out a table with a cup of water, the Gospel, and the Crucifix.
  • After the exclamation of the clergyman, Psalm 142 is pronounced.
  • They sing: “God is the Lord” and troparia. During this, the priest censes water in a cross shape.
  • During the reading of Psalm 50, troparions and litanies, the temple is censed.
  • After this, the prokeimenon is read and the Apostle is read (Heb. 2:14-18).
  • Then the Gospel is read (John 5:2-4).
  • This is followed by the litany:

Let us pray to the Lord in peace, in which petitions are offered for the sanctification of water. Basically, this involves censing of water. After which the priest says a prayer for the consecration of the water.

Sometimes a special prayer is read:

Great God, work miracles that are countless! Come now to Your servants who pray to You, O Master, and eat of Your Holy Spirit and sanctify this water: and grant to those who drink from it, and to Your servants who receive and sprinkle themselves with it, change from passions, remission of sins, healing from illness, and liberation from all evil, and strengthening and sanctification of the house and cleansing of all defilement, and driving away the slander of the devil: for blessed and glorified is Thy most honorable and magnificent Name, of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

  • Then the priest takes the Cross. He points the crucifix towards himself. Then he makes a cross-shaped movement over the water with his lower part. Afterwards the entire Cross is immersed in water. At the same time, troparia are sung: Save, O Lord, Thy people... (three times) and Thy gifts... .
  • After this, the priest kisses the Cross, which was taken out of the water, and sprinkles all those present and the temple.
  • Everyone takes turns kissing the cross, and the priest sprinkles each one.

WHAT IS AKATHIST

An akathist is a song of praise or a solemn hymn that is written in honor of Christ, the Mother of God or a saint. It is addressed to a specific saint so that he can help in resolving some matters or simply for consolation.

“Unseated singing” is how the akathist is translated from the ancient Greek language. And this translation means that you need to read or listen to the akathist while standing, you cannot sit, the only exceptions being sick people. It is customary to read the akathist while standing facing the icon of the saint or event in whose name and honor the glorification is being performed. If you don’t have an icon, you can come to the temple and read the akathist here. If this is not possible, then it is quite acceptable to read the akathists while standing facing the east. The Lord Jesus Christ taught us to pray like this:

The Holy Fathers explain these words this way: it doesn’t matter where a person prays, the main thing is that the prayer is in the heart.

The Akathist consists of different parts - kontakia and ikos. A kontakion is a short song that briefly describes a story or action that a saint performed. Ikos is also a song of praise, which more fully reveals the event that was sung in the previous kontakion. For example, the fifth ikos will talk about the same event as the fifth kontakion, but in more detail. Also, together with the reading of the akathist, troparia, which are similar to kontakia, are also a small song of praise dedicated to saints or in honor of some event or holiday.

READING ORDER

The order of reading akathists is the same as ordinary prayers - usually the initial prayers are read first (for example, as in the morning prayers according to “Our Father”), and then the akathist itself. You can combine the morning or evening rule with reading the akathist. In this case, there is no need to read the initial prayers a second time, and you can read the akathist after the prayers until the final prayer “It is worthy to eat.” But reading only one akathist will not be considered a mistake; the most important thing in reading an akathist, as well as in reading any other prayers, is sincere faith in God (more details in the articles on how to pray and learn to pray) and deep reverence for the saint to whom it is read Akathist

Complete rule for reading akathists:

  • Through your prayers, our father, Lord Jesus Christ, our God, have mercy on us. Amen.
  • Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee
  • Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of truth, Who is everywhere and fulfills everything, Treasure of good things and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Good One, souls ours. (From Easter to the Ascension, instead of this prayer we read: “Christ is risen from the dead, trampling death upon death, and giving life to those in the tombs” (three times). From the Ascension to Trinity we do not read it at all.
  • Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (Three times, with the sign of the cross and a bow from the waist.)
  • Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
  • Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us; Lord, cleanse our sins; Master, forgive our iniquities; Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Thy name's sake.
  • Lord have mercy. (Three times).
  • Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
  • Our Father.
  • Come, let us worship the King our God. (Bow)
  • Come, let us worship and fall down before Christ, our King God. (Bow)
  • Come, let us bow and fall down to Christ Himself, the King and our God. (Bow)
  • Psalm 50.
  • Symbol of faith

Read the akathist After the akathist:

  • It is worthy to eat (From Easter to the Ascension, instead of this prayer, the chorus and irmos of the 9th song of the Paschal canon is read: The angel cries with more grace: Pure Virgin, rejoice! And again I say: rejoice! Your Son has risen three days from the grave and raised the dead Bent; people, have fun! Shine, shine, new Jerusalem, for the glory of the Lord shines upon you. Rejoice now and be glad, O Zion. But you, Pure One, rejoice, O Mother of God, about the rise of Your Nativity)
  • Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
  • Lord have mercy. (Three times).
  • Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, prayers for the sake of Your Most Pure Mother, our reverend and God-bearing fathers, the saint (or the saints to whom the akathist was read, if to the Lord or the Mother of God, then we say nothing) and to all the saints, remember Love and save me, a sinner, for Good and Lover of Humanity. Amen. (If to the Cross - by the power of the Honest and Life-giving Cross, if to the Angels - by the Honest Heavenly Powers of the Ethereal)

Following the prayer service of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Priest: Blessed be our God always, now and ever, and unto ages of ages.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of truth, Who is everywhere and fulfills everything, Treasure of good things and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Good One, souls ours

Trisagion

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (Read three times, with the sign of the cross and bow from the waist.)

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen

Prayer to the Most Holy Trinity

Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us; Lord, cleanse our sins; Master, forgive our iniquities; Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Thy name's sake.

Lord have mercy. (Three times).

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven! Hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, as it is in heaven and on earth. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, just as we forgive our debtors; and do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

Reader: Amen. Lord have mercy, 12.

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen:

Come, let us worship the King our God. (Bow)

Come, let us worship and fall down before Christ, our King God. (Bow)

Come, let us bow and fall down to Christ Himself, the King and our God. (Bow)

Psalm 142

Lord, hear my prayer, inspire my prayer in Thy truth, hear me in Thy righteousness, and do not enter into judgment with Thy servant, for no one living will be justified before You. As if the enemy drove my soul, he humbled my belly to eat, he planted me to eat in dark, like dead centuries. And my spirit is depressed within me, my heart is troubled within me. I have remembered the days of old, I have learned in all Your works, I have learned Your hand in all creation. My hands have lifted up to You, my soul, like a waterless land to You. Hear me soon, Lord, my spirit has disappeared, do not turn Your face away from me, and I will become like those who go down into the pit. I hear Thy mercy upon me in the morning, for I trust in Thee. Tell me, Lord, I will go the other way, because I have taken my soul to You. Deliver me from my enemies, O Lord, I have fled to You. Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God. Your good Spirit will guide me to the right land. For Thy name's sake, O Lord, live me, by Thy righteousness remove my soul from sorrow. And by Thy mercy consume my enemies and destroy all my cold souls, for I am Thy servant.

Glory, even now: Alleluia, three times.

Then we sing “God is Lord:” in the voice of the troparion, tone 4

God is the Lord and He has appeared to us, blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.

Verse 1: Confess to the Lord that His mercy endures forever.

Verse 2: They used me, and in the name of the Lord they resisted them.

Verse 3: I will not die, but I will live and carry on the work of the Lord.

Verse 4: The stone that was built carelessly was the head of the corner; this stone came from the Lord and is marvelous in our own hands.

Troparion to the Blessed Virgin Mary

Today, faithful people, we brightly celebrate, overshadowed by Your coming, O Mother of God, and looking to Your most pure image, we tenderly say: cover us with Your honorable Protection, and deliver us from all evil, begging Your Son Christ our God to save our souls. Twice

Glory, even now: The Virgin stands today in the Church, and from the faces of the saints she invisibly prays to God for us: the angels and bishops bow down, the apostles and prophets rejoice: for for our sake the Mother of God prays to the Eternal God.

Psalm 50

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy, and according to the multitude of Your mercies, cleanse my iniquity. Above all, wash me from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin; for I know my iniquity, and I will take away my sin before me. I have sinned against You alone and have done evil before You, so that You may be justified in Your words and triumph over the judgment of You. Behold, I was conceived in iniquity, and my mother gave birth to me in sins. Behold, you have loved the truth; You have revealed to me the unknown and secret wisdom of Yours. Sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed; Wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. My hearing brings joy and joy; humble bones will rejoice. Turn Your face away from my sins and cleanse all my iniquities. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a right spirit in my womb. Do not cast me away from Your presence and do not take Your Holy Spirit away from me. Reward me with the joy of Your salvation and strengthen me with the Lord’s Spirit. I will teach the wicked Your way, and the wicked will turn to You. Deliver me from bloodshed, O God, God of my salvation; My tongue will rejoice in Your righteousness. Lord, open my mouth, and my mouth will declare Your praise. As if you had desired sacrifices, you would have given them: you do not favor burnt offerings. The sacrifice to God is a broken spirit; God will not despise a broken and humble heart. Bless Zion, O Lord, with Your favor, and may the walls of Jerusalem be built. Then favor the sacrifice of righteousness, the offering and the burnt offering; Then they will place the bullock on Your altar.

Kontakion, tone 3

The Virgin stands today in the church and from the faces of the saints invisibly prays to God for us, the angels and bishops bow down, the apostles and prophets rejoice: for our sake the Mother of God prays to the Eternal God.

Ikos

Come, O people, let us enjoy these glorious miracles: For this Adam was delivered from aphids: For the ark was not created by Noah, but by God. In ancient times it was not possible for Moses to see God in the bush of fire, but now from Him who was born the whole earth knows the Son of God, and prays to the Unmarried One for us. For this reason, we glorify Yu, as the Mother of God: for our sake, the Mother of God prays to the Eternal God.

Kontakion 1

Chosen by the Eternal King, who exceeded every creation of Heaven and earth, the Queen, who sometimes came to the Blachernae Church to pray, offers worthy worship with thanksgiving, as if in the darkness of existence, we resort under Your luminous omophorion with faith and tenderness. You, who have an invincible power, free us from all troubles, so we call You: Rejoice, our Joy, cover us from all evil with Your honest omophorion.

Ikos 1

The Archangel and Angel in multitude, with the Forerunner, the Theologian and all the saints in the face, co-presented You, His Queen, in the Church of the Blachernae and, having heard Your prayers for the whole world, touched with surprise, cried out the following: Rejoice, eternal favor with God the Father without beginning; Rejoice, most pure receptacle of God, the flightless Son. Rejoice, chosen dwelling place of God the All-Holy Spirit; Rejoice, never-ending wonder of the angelic ranks above. Rejoice, all-threatening deterrence of the dark forces of hell; Rejoice, the multitude of cherubim are met in the air. Rejoice, She who is praiseworthy will be ascribed to the Seraphim’s hexacrylation; Rejoice, even as we, earthlings, gratefully bow to Her most blessed cover. Rejoice, our Joy, cover us from all evil with Your honest omophorion.

Kontakion 2

Saint Andrew and Epiphanius saw You in the church in the air, praying for Christians to God, knowing that You are the Mother of Christ our God who ascended into Heaven, and, falling to earth, I joyfully bowed to Your all-blessed protection, calling: Alleluia.

Ikos 2

You have no understanding, O Virgin Mother of God, in protecting Orthodox people, for the sake of our enemies they do not understand, so long as the prayer of God to the Mother is strong. We, knowing well about Your all-powerful intercession, call to You with tenderness: Rejoice, most merciful Comforter of all who mourn and are burdened; Rejoice, never-sleeping Teacher of all the lost and blinded. Rejoice, thou who quickly quenches the righteously driven wrath of God against us through Thy prayer; Rejoice, taming our evil passions with an omnipotent wave. Rejoice, strong awakening of sleeping consciences; Rejoice, easy overcoming of lawless skills. Rejoice, for whose sake hell groans and the souls of malice tremble; Rejoice, even for the sake of it the gates of Paradise are opened to all of us. Rejoice, our Joy, cover us from all evil with Your honest omophorion.

Kontakion 3

The power of the Most High overshadows with faith and reverence those who resort to Your all-honorable protection: You alone, the Most Holy and Most Pure Mother of God, have come, that every request of Yours may be fulfilled. Therefore, every age of the faithful praises You and Your Son, calling: Alleluia.

Ikos 3

Having an infinite wealth of mercy, you extend your helping hand to the whole end of the earth, O Lady: healing to the sick, to the weakened, to the blind, to the blind, and to everyone according to their every need, giving thanks to those who cry out with gratitude: Rejoice, indestructible fortress and fence of Orthodoxy; Rejoice, the first adornment of holy temples and altars. Rejoice, the surest protection of piety; Rejoice, merciful city rulers, ever-growing Helper. Rejoice, invincible Commander of the leaders and armies of the Christians; Rejoice, holy mirror of truth to the unbearable judges. Rejoice, perfect mind of teachers and teachers; Rejoice, blessing of the homes and families of the pious. Rejoice, our Joy, cover us from all evil with Your honest omophorion.

Kontakion 4

Through the storm of many troubles, you help us, O Lady, who are possessed: stand before the altar of the Lord, lifting up your hand, and praying that the Lord, the King of Glory, will look upon our unworthy prayer, and listen to the petitions of those who call on your holy name, and those who call to your Son: Alleluia.

Ikos 4

Having heard the Lord God of Joshua, praying and commanding the sun, he will take revenge on the enemy. The Lord Jesus, the chosen Chamber of the Holy Spirit, also hears Your prayers now. In the same way, we, sinners, trusting in Your protection, like the Mother of God, dare to say to You: Rejoice, illuminated by the mental Sun and enlightening us with an unstoppable light; Rejoice, having enlightened the whole earth with the radiance of Your most pure soul. Rejoice, who made all heaven rejoice with the purity of Your body; Rejoice, protection and supply of the holy abodes of Christ. Rejoice, cheerfulness and admonition of the faithful shepherds of the Church; Rejoice, God-fearing monks and nuns, Teacher. Rejoice, undisturbed calm of the reverent elders; Rejoice, secret joy of pure virgins and widows. Rejoice, our Joy, cover us from all evil with Your honest omophorion.

Kontakion 5

Moses, the seer of God, is sometimes in the army against Amalek, when he lifts up his hand, Israel prevails, and when he lets down his hand, then Amalek is victorious, strengthened by those who support him, defeat the enemy. But You, O Mother of God, having raised Your hand in supplication, even though you are supported by no one, You always defeat the enemies of the Christians and You are an invincible shield for us, crying out: Alleluia.

Ikos 5

Having seen Thee, the saints gathered in the air in the Church of the Blachernae, extending prayers to the Son and God, joyfully with the Archangels and Angels a grateful song was sung to Thee. We, stronger than Moses’ hands, strengthen Your hand, touchingly crying out: Rejoice, Whose hand will support for all of us, Her love and mercy for us; Rejoice, we cannot stand before the enemy, visible and invisible. Rejoice, you who drive away the dark horde of our passions and lusts; Rejoice, Divine Fire - holding Christ in His hand and igniting us, cold ones. Rejoice, for those who wage war on the flesh through chastity have been crowned with a fair amount; Rejoice, those who strive in fasting and silence for ever-present conversation. Rejoice, speedy Comforter to those who are exhausted from despondency and sadness; Rejoice, you who provide the grace of humility and patience. Rejoice, our Joy, cover us from all evil with Your honest omophorion.

Kontakion 6

Saint Roman the Sweet Singer appeared as a preacher of Your inexhaustible grace and mercies, when in a dream he received from You a scroll of books for consumption: therefore he became wise to begin to sing intelligently to Your glory, and to write praiseworthy words to the saints, crying out with faith: Alleluia.

Ikos 6

Thou hast shone forth from the true Sun of Truth, the Dawn, the Virgin of the Virgin Mary, enlightening all with the wisdom of God Thy Son and bringing into the knowledge of the truth those who call Thee: Rejoice, O God's Power and God's Wisdom - who gave birth to Christ in the flesh; Rejoice, thou who has put to shame the foolish wisdom of this age and taught those blinded by it to the right path. Rejoice, guardian of the holy faith and Orthodox dogmas, Teacher; Rejoice, Eradicator of wicked heresies and pernicious schisms. Rejoice, foreseen secret and inconvenience, leading all the good and telling it as it should; Rejoice, you who disgrace false seers and vain fortune-telling. Rejoice, in the hour of perplexity you put a good thought in your heart; Rejoice, you who redeem yourself from harmful undertakings and meaningless wishes. Rejoice, our Joy, cover us from all evil with Your honest omophorion.

Kontakion 7

Although the long-suffering All-Seer, the Lord, revealed the unsearchable abyss of His love for mankind, He chose You as His only Mother and created You for people’s insurmountable protection: so that even if someone from them is worthy of condemnation by the righteous judgment of God, Your sovereign protection is still preserved for repentance, calling: Alleluia.

Ikos 7

Thou didst show wondrously Thy deeds in Thy Most Pure Mother, O Lord, when the most wonderful omophorion in Her hand, shining more than a ray of sunshine, appeared, covering the people who are in the Church of the Blachernae. Having heard such a sign of Her merciful intercession, I was overcome with horror and joy and kept saying: Rejoice, omophorion not made by hands, like a cloud, spread out over the whole world; Rejoice, O Eternal Bishop, Your Son, holding the sign on Your hand. Rejoice, you who manifest this new mercy and new grace in the Orthodox Church; Rejoice, pillar of cloud covering us all from the temptations and enticements of the world. Rejoice, pillar of fire, showing us all the path of salvation in the darkness of sin; Rejoice, obvious strengthening of the apparent piety of the ascetics. Rejoice, secret admonition of God’s servants in the midst of the world; Rejoice, and me, naked of good deeds, not leaving behind Your cover and grace. Rejoice, our Joy, cover us from all evil with Your honest omophorion.

Kontakion 8

It is marvelous that the angels, hastening from heaven to the Blachernae church, appeared to you, glorifying the apostles, praising the face of the saints and saints and the holy wives of the class. The Forerunner bowed down with the Theologian, and the people in the church cried out with joy: Alleluia.

Ikos 8

The Lord rules over all above and below, having seen You in the church, His Mother stands and prays to Him with tenderness, saying: “Ask, My Mother, I will not turn away from You, but I will fulfill all Your requests and I will teach You all to sing in gratitude to You: Rejoice, Ark The covenant, in which the sanctification of the entire human race is kept; Rejoice, most holy one, in whom the Bread of Eternal Life is preserved for those who hunger for righteousness. Rejoice, all-golden vessel, in which is prepared for our sake the flesh and blood of the Divine Lamb; Rejoice, you who accept those left by doctors into your all-powerful hands. Rejoice, you who lift up those weakened in body, but not in spirit, and by faith from the bed of illness; Rejoice, you who give new and better meaning to those who are destroying their minds due to illness. Rejoice, you who wisely trouble us on the obstinate path of sin and passions; Rejoice, touching cruelty of our unrepentant heart. Rejoice, our Joy, cover us from all evil with Your honest omophorion.

Kontakion 9

All praiseworthy angelic nature brings to You, the true Mother of God and Intercessor of all who flow to You, leading, as with Your indestructible protection you have made the righteous glad, interceded for sinners, delivered the needy and prayed for all the faithful, calling: Alleluia.

Ikos 9

The prophets of many things, like dumb fish, are perplexed as to how to praise the great feast of Thy all-honorable Protection according to their heritage: everything that is said about You from them is not sufficient for a single calculation of Thy bounties. We, seeing Your countless good deeds, cry out with joy: Rejoice, you who keep us from the plague and all-destruction of mortals; Rejoice, preserving the cities and weights from sudden vibrations of the earth. Rejoice, you who raised up from the flooding of waters and from drowning with a strong hand; Rejoice, thou who deliverest from the fiery dew of Thy prayers. Rejoice, who supplies you with the Bread of Life from hunger of soul and body; Rejoice, you who take away the strikes of lightning and thunder from our head. Rejoice, thou who savest from the invasion of foreigners and secret murderers; Rejoice, thou who protectest half-blooded ones from domestic strife and enmity with peace and love. Rejoice, our Joy, cover us from all evil with Your honest omophorion.

Kontakion 10

To save any human race from the charms of the enemy, the Lover of Mankind, the Lord, has given to You, His Mother, to help, protect and protect us on earth, so that you may bring comfort to the sad, joy to the sorrowing, an Intercessor to the offended, and may you raise everyone from the depths of sin, singing: Alleluia.

Ikos 10

“O Heavenly King,” the all-immaculate Queen standing with the Angels said in prayer in the air, “receive every person who prays to You and calls on My name for help, so that he may not depart from My face empty-handed and unheard.” Having heard this all-good prayer, the congregation of saints cried out in gratitude: Rejoice, thou who crownest farmers with pure hands and hearts with blessed fruits; Rejoice, I will buy help and righteous rewards for all who do. Rejoice, nationwide denunciation of perjury and unrighteous acquisitions; Rejoice, sudden help to those in need along the way, on land and waters. Rejoice, you who gladden childless parents with the fruits of faith and spirit; Rejoice, invisible teacher of motherless orphans. Rejoice, strong Intercessor of those in captivity and exile; Rejoice, ever-watchful Guardian of those who live in bondage and prison. Rejoice, our Joy, cover us from all evil with Your honest omophorion.

We hear the all-tender singing and warmly listen to Your prayer for us, we ask You, Virgin Mother of God, do not despise the voice of Your servants: for we run to You in adversity and sorrow and before You in our troubles we shed tears, calling: Alleluia.

Ikos 11

Like a light-receiving light, burning in prayer, seeing Thee in the air, the Blachernae Church, in agreement with the many people who were in it, exclaimed: “Where does this come from for me, so that the Mother of My Lord may come to me?” Saint Andrew and Epiphanius warmly pray to You, calling: Rejoice, unenvious Giver of all spiritual and physical gifts; Rejoice, faithful Representative of sinners who begin the repentance of sinners. Rejoice, ever-present Companion to those who fight the passions and attacks of the enemy; Rejoice, invisible taming of the cruel and bestial rulers. Rejoice, secret peace and joy for the meek and suffering slaves; Rejoice, all-desired accomplishment of good marriages. Rejoice, quick and painless resolution for mothers giving birth; Rejoice, at the hour of death, one Helper to all of us. Rejoice, our Joy, cover us from all evil with Your honest omophorion.

Kontakion 12

Ask us for Divine grace from Your Son and God, extend a helping hand to us, drive away from us every enemy and adversary and pacify our lives, so that we do not perish in cruelty without repentance, but accept us into eternal shelter, our Patroness, so that we joyfully call You: Alleluia .

Ikos 12

Singing Your sovereign protection, we all praise You, as our steadfast Representative, and we worship You, who prays for us: we believe and hope that You have asked Your Son and God for the eternal and temporal goodness of all who cry out to You with love: Rejoice, strong for the whole universe intercession; Rejoice, sanctification of all earthly and heavenly elements. Rejoice, blessing of all seasons; Rejoice, all slander and temptations that come from the world, the flesh and the devil are trampled underfoot. Rejoice, unforeseen reconciliation of bitterly warring people; Rejoice, unknown correction of unrepentant sinners. Rejoice, you who do not reject the despised and rejected by all; Rejoice, you who snatch away the desperate from the pit of destruction. Kontakion 13

O All-Sung Mother, Most Pure Lady, Virgin Mother of God! Prayer

Oh, Most Holy Virgin, Mother of the Lord of the highest powers, Queen of heaven and earth, our city and country, Almighty Intercessor! Accept this singing of praise and gratitude from us, unworthy Thy servants, and lift up our prayers to the Throne of God Thy Son, that He may be merciful to our iniquities, and add His grace to those who honor Thy all-honorable name and with faith and love worship Thy miraculous image. We are not worthy of being pardoned by Him, unless You propitiate Him for us, the Lady, for everything is possible for You from Him. For this reason, we resort to You, as to our undoubted and speedy Intercessor: hear us praying to You, cover us with Your all-powerful protection, and ask God for Your Son: zeal and vigilance for our souls as our shepherds, wisdom and strength as city rulers, truth and impartiality for judges , the mentor is reason and humility, the spouse is love and harmony, the child is obedience, the offended is patience, the fear of God is offended, the sorrowful is complacency, the rejoicing is abstinence; for all of us is the spirit of reason and piety, the spirit of mercy and meekness, the spirit of purity and truth. To her, Most Holy Lady, have mercy on Your weak people; Gather those who are scattered, guide those who have gone astray to the right path, support old age, raise young ones to be chaste, raise infants, and look upon us all with the gaze of Your merciful intercession, raise us from the depths of sin and enlighten our heartfelt eyes to the vision of salvation, be merciful to us here and there, in the land of earthly arrival and at the terrible judgment of Your Son; Having ceased in faith and repentance from this life, our fathers and brethren began to live with the Angels and all the saints in eternal life. For you are, Lady, the Glory of heaven and the Hope of earth, You, according to God, are our Hope and Intercessor of all who flow to You with faith. We therefore pray to You, and to You, as the Almighty Helper, we commit ourselves and each other and our whole life, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
