Notes and candles remotely

(March 2021)

  • Communion of the Body and Blood of Christ , which is usually celebrated at the end of the Liturgy after joint prayer in church, makes us especially involved in God, united with Him. Through union with the deified Flesh of Christ God, we ourselves can be deified and, by grace, become one with the Creator Himself.
  • By receiving communion, Christians also unite with each other into the mystical Body of Christ - the Church, the Head of which is Jesus Christ Himself.
  • Visiting temple, especially on Sundays, is also a manifestation of our worship of God through honoring His day. For Christians, the main day is Sunday, when we celebrate the Resurrection of Christ, the victory of Christ over death.
  • There is a church rule (80 rule of the VI Ecumenical Council), which emphasizes the importance of regular attendance at the Liturgy (especially on Sunday). Presence at the Liturgy also implies communion, since the Liturgy is served specifically for Communion. This rule reminds us that a Christian who, without a good reason (illness, urgent work) has not been to the Liturgy for three weeks in a row , excommunicates himself from communion with the Mother Church, which can only testify to this with regret. Therefore, regular participation in the Divine Liturgy, that very Last Supper, which is timeless, is a necessary moment of our church life.
  • The 9th Apostolic Canon and the 2nd Canon of the Council of Antioch say that at the Liturgy one must receive communion (if there is no excommunication from Communion), and not just pray. for several days in a row (you don’t need to take a blessing for this). If a person is not forbidden to receive communion, but for some reason he does not want to do so, he can leave the Liturgy after reading the Gospel (along with the catechumens preparing for baptism).

TO PARTICIPATE IN THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST YOU NEED:

  • Preparation for communion , first of all, is our Christian life, participation in the Liturgy and examination of our conscience. And also prayers, fasting and confession.
  • Prayers before communion: usually at home they read the “Sequence before communion” from the prayer book. In our church, prayers from this sequence are read 15 minutes before the start of the Liturgy. Those who did not have time to read them in advance can listen to the prayers in the temple. The three canons are not required to be read, only if desired.
  • Fasting before communion: someone who regularly receives communion (once a month or more often) on the eve of communion may not fast or fast only in the evening (Wednesday and Friday are fasting). For those who receive communion less than once a month, it is advisable to fast at least one day before. If necessary for health reasons, medicines may be taken before communion , as well as liquids and food as medicine (for example, for diabetes).
  • Without fasting (including on Wednesday and Friday) we receive communion during continuous weeks ( periods when there is no fasting even on Wednesday and Friday): on Christmastide (January 7-17), on the week of the tax collector and the Pharisee, cheese week, Light week (after Easter) and Trinity (after Trinity).
  • Confession is performed after each evening service, as well as 15 minutes before the start of the Liturgy and after its end (at the same time, that is, after the Liturgy or evening service, you can talk to the priest and ask questions). Confession at the early Liturgy occurs only at the end of it, immediately before communion. On major holidays and Sundays, it is preferable to confess the night before , when there is an evening service and the priest has more time for confession.
  • In the morning before the Liturgy, it is very advisable to write (especially on Sundays and major holidays), because In the morning, her time is limited. We confess to God, the priest is only a witness of repentance. After confession, it is not necessary to kiss the Cross and the Gospel and take a blessing. In our church, on the night and morning of Christmas and Easter, there is no individual confession immediately before the Liturgy only a general one (for those who have already confessed during the fast preceding these holidays). Please confess in advance!
  • Adult parishioners can receive Holy Communion in our church without confession (approximately) more than one month has not since their last confession and during this time they have not committed serious sins. But even in this case, you need to sigh repentantly to God about your sins before the Chalice and have a contrite heart, reverence for the Holy Chalice. You cannot receive communion in a state of condemnation, anger, in the presence of unforgiven grievances and grave unconfessed sins.
  • infants and small children for communion: when only one Liturgy is served, then by 10:00; if there are two Liturgies (on Sundays and major holidays), then bring such children either after the second (late) Liturgy by 11:20 (by 10:20 on weekdays) or by the end of the early Liturgy by 8:30 (by 7: 30 on weekdays). There is no need to give communion to children more often than parents receive communion.
  • Adult parishioners receive communion if they come to the Liturgy no later than the reading of the Gospel . Discuss with the priest if there are problems that prevent you from coming to the Liturgy on time. It should not become a permanent practice to give communion to parents who arrived with their children only at the end of the service.
  • After the Liturgy in our church we confess and give communion to those who still need confession, as well as those who cannot attend the Liturgy due to their weakened condition (they can come for communion at the end of the Liturgy).

*******************************************************************

  • Only can make comments . If someone regularly violates this rule, especially in a rude manner, and also pesters people in church or on the street, report to the priest or behind the candle box. By doing this you will protect others from similar temptations.
  • If your children are making noise in the temple , then it is better to go outside with them.
  • You can sing along with the choir only if the whole church is singing (famous chants - I Believe, Our Father, Lord Have Mercy, etc.). If the parishioners nearby are silent, then it is better for you not to sing alone, attracting attention to yourself.
  • the measure of fasting for themselves; there is no need to take a blessing for this.
  • Candles are a symbol of our prayer, combined with a voluntary sacrifice to the very temple where they were purchased for a donation. They have no other role; there is no need to illuminate the temple with them now. Therefore, candles brought to the temple from the outside are not such a sacrifice and help to the temple now, we ask you not to use them, this deprives them of their meaning and only adds problems to the temple in cleaning off their soot and soot.
  • If urgent and urgent prayer , then you can give a note personally to the priest, explaining the problem, or write a message to the phone of the priest so that he knows for whom to pray.
  • In addition to the submitted notes, you can pray for the members of the Church at the proskomedia (immediately before the exclamation at the beginning of the Liturgy) together with the priest, who at this time removes particles from the prosphora. After the first ringing of the bell, you can remember health (prayerfully remembering the names of living Orthodox Christians), after the second ringing - about repose , and after the third we stop commemoration. It is also good to commemorate ourselves after the most important moment of the Liturgy, the Eucharistic canon, when the bread and wine became the Flesh and Blood of Christ (namely after the priest’s exclamation: “Exactly about the Most Holy, Most Pure, Most Blessed...”).
  • Subscribe to the newsletter of urgent parish announcements on our online channel: on Instagram (announcements only); in , , Telegram and Tam-tam (here, in addition to announcements, materials on religious doctrine are also published).
  • We ask all parishioners to familiarize themselves with Memo for parishioners of our temple” !
  • Information can be obtained by calling the temple 8495-594-43-42 (9:00-18:00). Communication with the priest (important questions, comments about the temple, suggestions, to arrange a meeting) is carried out by calling the priest on duty at 8962-949-95-62. It is better to write to the priest (for example, on WhatsApp), because... many false spam calls. If you still want to call, but it’s not possible right away, then dial this number again, and they will call you back later. If you have a very urgent question and the priest on duty does not answer the telephone number, call the temple and ask to urgently find a priest, they will help you.
  • Those wishing to receive Holy Baptism or get married, please read the Baptism or Wedding announcements on the website of our church and the corresponding sections (8 or 9) in the “Memo”.

UPDATES FOR THE PERIOD OF DIFFICULT EPIDEMIOLOGICAL CIRCUMSTANCES

  • This period is a valid reason for attending services more rarely, especially for those belonging to the so-called. risk groups. Also during this period it is not necessary to take communion on major holidays ; it is preferable, if possible, on other days when there are fewer people in the church.
  • During the period of spread of infection, you can receive communion without participating in the Liturgy , arriving only for Holy Communion or after the second (late) Liturgy by 11:15 / 10:15 (on weekends/working days). This is especially true for those who themselves are at risk or are forced to have close contact with people from such a group.
  • We take communion without licking the spoon (the small spoon on which Holy Communion is served), with our lips wide open, our heads slightly thrown back, without saying our name out loud. To minimize contact with others by airborne droplets, we open our mouth at the last moment, when the spoon is already brought to our lips. It is better to bring your drink after communion (any liquid) with you or drink it at home.
  • During this period of infection, there is no need to kiss icons. It is enough to cross yourself and bow in front of the icon. The confession must be written , signing your name below. masks in church for the safety of others and so as not to tempt our neighbors. We try to keep our distance whenever possible.
  • You can submit notes, light candles remotely...

Signs for Pokrov

Our Slavic ancestors considered Intercession to be the milestone day between autumn and winter, when the Mother of God covers Mother Earth with her “shawl” (snow). By this time, all agricultural work had already been completed, and the wedding period began in the villages.

According to the signs:

“What is the Veil, so will the winter be”; “On the Intercession it is autumn before lunch, winter after lunch”; “The first snow fell and melted before the Intercession - don’t expect winter soon” and so on.

It was believed that birch and oak leaves flying before the Intercession were a harbinger of a mild winter; at this time, animals hibernated, and the last birds flew south. Also, a sleigh track began to be installed on Pokrov.

Also on Pokrov they tried to cajole the brownie so that he would not harm. To do this, they carried out the ritual of “baking the corners” - they laid out small pancakes in the corners of the hut, after eating which the brownie fell asleep until spring.

Wedding rituals, fortune telling and conspiracies

On Pokrov in Rus', the period of weddings began, brides were guessing about a successful family life, and girls who had not yet been matched were guessing about their betrothed. It was believed that for a girl, Intercession was the time that would determine her family life.

According to signs, courtship on Pokrov means an imminent wedding. On Pokrov, a girl was not allowed to sit at home and be bored, the sign read:

“If you have fun at the veil, you will soon find a good groom.”

Girls always went to the Intercession with their heads covered; in Rus' they said:

“The Pokrov-father will come and cover the girl’s head” (with a married woman’s scarf).

According to signs, the first one to get married will be the one who lights a candle to the Mother of God before everyone else on the Intercession.

In Rus' they said:

“The more snow on Pokrov, the more weddings.

There were special maiden wedding conspiracies, for example, the following:

“Pokrov-father, cover the earth with heavenly cereals, me with a wedding veil”; “Pokrov-Pokrov, cover the ground with snow, marry me”; “Mother Mother of God - send me a glorious, dear, desired groom”; “Bless me, Lord, on my wedding crown, may my girlhood come to an end”; “Mother Mother of God - I ask for a woman’s scarf and a gold ring.”

Fortune telling on the Intercession was the same as on other fortune telling days, but with some peculiarities. For example, girls sang special bread, which they placed on linen cloth, saying:

“Mummer, betrothed, come and taste my bread.”

If the groom appeared to a potential bride in a dream, the next day he needed to put a piece of bread or a napkin in which the bread was wrapped in his pocket. This was considered the best love spell.

Federal News Agency /

What service is taking place before the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary on October 12, 2021?

The holiday, which Orthodox Christians will celebrate on October 12, 2019, dates back to the sixth century. Tsar Ivan the Terrible wanted to perpetuate the memory of the soldiers who died in Kazan. After 40 years, representatives of the Orthodox Church decided to add this day to the list of holidays. After a certain time, the Orthodox people began to remember not only the people who gave their lives in Kazan. The process of remembering relatives, as well as close people, has become a good tradition.

Traditionally, on October 12, all Orthodox people attend church. It is customary to light candles for the repose of deceased people, and also to include their names in special notes, then handed over to the clergy. Services are held in the Temples during which the deceased are commemorated. Also on parenting Saturdays you can remember pleasant moments associated with relatives. Some Orthodox Christians ignore the service; the priests do not welcome this. On Parents' Saturday it is necessary to have a modest meal. An obligatory product on the table should be kutia, traditionally made from wheat cereal.

What should Orthodox Christians know before attending church?

Orthodox people who want to properly remember the dead should go to church. On this day, October 12, 2021, funeral services and memorial services will be held. The clergy believe that the soul of the deceased will be more favorable to a relative attending a service than to visiting a grave in a cemetery. Before going to the funeral liturgy, you should pay attention to the fact that in church priests do not perform funeral services for people who have independently shortened their life path (suicides), or who were not baptized during their lifetime.

In order for the name of a deceased person to be mentioned in the funeral liturgy, it must be included in the memorial note. Then it must be placed in a special urn on the territory of the temple or handed over personally to the priest. If it is not possible to visit a temple, an Orthodox Christian can read a special prayer independently while at home.
