Church of the Nativity
located on the bend of the Kuban River in the Yubileiny microdistrict of the city of Krasnodar. The Orthodox parish was registered in 1991. The first service in the temple was held on December 19, 1994.
History[edit]
In the 80s of the last century, active construction of a new residential area “Yubileiny” for 60 thousand residents began in the southwestern part of Krasnodar. The builders' plans did not include an Orthodox church in the area. Time has passed. Houses grew, residents moved in, Yubileiny was decorated... The religious thaw of the 80s in Russia bore fruit. The people began to turn to faith, to God. So in “Yubileiny” several young families met to organize an Orthodox community, with a subsequent appeal to the Ruling Archbishop to bless the undertaking.
Since August 1991, the Orthodox parish was registered, the Charter of the association was approved, and a current account was opened to collect donations for the construction of a church in honor of the Nativity of Christ.
With the blessing of Bishop Isidore, a site was chosen for the construction of a temple on the banks of the Kuban River and the go-ahead was received from the city leadership to allocate the land. The chairman of the parish council, A.A. Ignatov, was entrusted with the preparation of documentation and construction of the temple.
On January 17, 1992, the results of the competition for the best design of the Church of the Nativity of Christ were summed up with the help of the Krasnodar Union of Architects of the RSFSR and the city department of architecture. The project of Krasnodar architects Yuri and Peter Subbotin was recognized as the best work in the competition.
The event of laying and consecrating the first stone in the foundation of the future temple took place on May 10, 1992, which was performed by the then Archbishop of Ekaterinodar and Novorossiysk Isidor, now Metropolitan of Ekaterinodar and Kuban. In the co-service of the clergy of the city and region, with a gathering of thousands of lay people, the bishop consecrated a marble slab with a memorable engraving, which was placed at the base of the future altar of the Nativity Church. Time passed, the parish lived an active life. There was no church yet, but a Sunday school for children and adults was opened in the adjacent building of the Republican Repair Society, and then in the district library.
The collection of donations for the construction of the temple continued, in which many residents and organizations of the city and region took part.
Local authorities have allocated temporary premises for the church - in the extension of the house at 31 Prospekt Chekistov Street. The Parish Council has equipped the premises for a church.
Since July 1992, regular Sunday and holiday services began in temporary premises, the first Baptisms, Weddings, and religious processions to the church under construction were performed.
On August 16, 1992, on the site of the future church, the first Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Bishop Isidore, co-served by the clergy. In September 1992, the first piles (320 in total) were driven into the foundation of the future temple, the general contractor of which was Spetsstroy JSC. Two railway cars were sawn and installed on the territory of the temple for the future school, which became the first Orthodox educational institution in the Kuban.
The first service in the lower chapel was held on December 19, 1994, and then on Christmas Day on January 7, 1995. The lower church has 2 limits: the main one in honor of the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women was consecrated on March 22, 1998, the right or southern one - in honor of all the Saints who shone in the Russian land, was consecrated on March 7, 1999.
The first dome with a cross was erected over the bell tower on November 23, 1997, and the main, central dome was crowned with a cross on July 4, 1998. Then 4 more small domes with crosses were installed.
In November 1999, the construction of the upper church in honor of the 2000th anniversary of the Nativity in the flesh of the Lord God and our Savior Jesus Christ was completed.
On January 2, 2000, His Eminence Bishop Isidore consecrated the upper church and celebrated the Divine Liturgy.
On the night of January 6-7, 2000, in the presence of numerous parishioners, the first liturgy on the Feast of the Nativity of Christ the Savior took place in the main chapel of the church.
In 2012, the Church of the Nativity of Christ marks 20 years since the foundation and consecration of the site of the future temple.

Shrines of the Church of the Nativity and modernity
The list of the most important in the Nativity Church includes:
- the face of the Most Holy Theotokos “The All-Tsarina”;
- ark-reliquary with particles of more than 20 saints of God;
- icon of St. royal passion-bearers;
- six lists of Greek images consecrated on Mount Athos: Three-Handed One, Gerontissa, Iveron, Worthy to Eat, Quick to Hear, St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.
In the temple altar there is another shrine - the ark with the hair of 3-year-old Nicholas II, which is taken out to parishioners on holidays. Before the miraculous image of the “All-Tsarina”, on Sundays at 18:00 a water prayer service is performed with the reading of an akathist. People suffering from various diseases, including cancer, receive help.
"Life" of the temple today
Today the rector of the temple is Father Alexander (Ignatov). He is the head of the department of religious education of the Kuban diocese. Under his leadership, the life of the community develops. Now the temple area is quite large. It is divided into many zones. In front of the porch there is a seating area with benches and a fountain in the center. Decorative fir trees, various plants and flowers grow around.
Immediately near the entrance, in the courtyard, there is an artesian well with healing water. A chapel was erected above it in honor of the “Life-Giving Spring” icon. Right at the gate there is a small kiosk that always sells hot bread from the temple bakery. To the right of the gate there is a complex of church shops where you can buy scarves, crosses, icons, candles, oil, and spiritual literature.
The temple refectory is also popular. There is a real Russian oven here, delicious Lenten dishes and aromatic tea with local pastries are sold. Behind the temple there is an area that residents call the “Cossack farm.” All holidays and celebrations take place at this place. In the summer, long tables are set up here for communal meals. Here you can hear the songs of the Kuban Cossacks, performed to the accompaniment of a cheerful accordion.
The first 11-year comprehensive Orthodox school in Kuban named after St. Seraphim of Sarov operates in the Nativity Church. More than 150 students here learn not only basic school subjects, but also the “Law of God.” An Orthodox library has been opened at this educational institution. Thanks to many parishioners, it is replenished with new books every day.
It is important that in 2005 an orphanage for children with disabilities “Rozhdestvensky” was built on the territory. A children's playground was set up next to it. There are many guests here both in summer and in winter - on the occasion of the Nativity of Christ. Children and their parents happily come here to watch “Bethlehem.” On the street, surrounded by fir trees, they make a nativity scene, and live sheep, a donkey, and a calf walk nearby in the fence. Holy evening is especially celebrated here.
Compound and drinking pump room
In April 2007, a peasant farm in a rather neglected state was transferred. Through the efforts of the parish, work is underway to restore it. At the moment, domestic animals and birds are raised on the farmstead, garden crops are cultivated, and a garden is planted. With donations from parishioners, a chapel was erected in honor of the “Inexhaustible Chalice” icon, and in 2010 a dome with a cross was placed on it.
At the same time, a well with artesian drinking water was drilled on the territory of the church. A chapel dedicated to the “Life-Giving Spring” icon was erected on this site. The drinking pump room is open from 7.30 to 19.30.
