It was formed on February 27, 2012 according to the order of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus' Kirill No. R-01/7. Having the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus' as its ruling bishop, the deanery was entrusted to the administration of the patriarchal vicar, Bishop of the Resurrection Savva (Mikheev). Most of the parishes and farmsteads within the deanery were located quite far from Moscow (at a distance of up to 120 km) in sparsely populated areas; Almost all parishes were single-staff. The first working meeting of the clergy of the deanery was convened by Bishop Savva in March of that year in the Moscow Novospassky Monastery.

By order of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus' Kirill dated January 24, 2021, the patriarchal metochion at the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God “Spreader of Loaves” in the village of Priazovskaya, Temryuk district, Krasnodar Territory, was included in the deanery, which was simultaneously renamed into the deanery of stauropegial parishes and patriarchal metochions outside the city of Moscow [1]. Following this, some other parishes in different parts of Russia were included in the deanery.

Moscow City Diocese

The diocese includes stauropegic monasteries, city cathedrals and churches of the Moscow Kremlin, as well as parish churches united in 27 deaneries.

According to data presented by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow at the Diocesan Assembly of the city of Moscow, as of the end of 2010, the total number of churches and chapels in the diocese of the city of Moscow is 837[18][19]. However, only 271 churches regularly hold services, which, according to him, “places the capital in last place among the regions of Russia in terms of the ratio of the number of churches to the number of ethnically Orthodox residents”[18][19]. Liturgical activities have not been resumed in 39 churches in Moscow. 19 churches have not been transferred to the Church, 90 churches and chapels are under construction[19][18].

As of the end of 2011, 1,180 clergy serve in the Moscow diocese, including 14 bishops (a year earlier - 19), 879 presbyters (in 2010 - 860), 287 deacons (in 2010 - 271)[20].

The dean of the district is Protopresbyter Vladimir Divakov, rector of the Church of the Ascension of the Lord in Storozhi, at the Nikitsky Gate[21][22]. As of 2011, the Central Deanery includes at least 33 parishes[23].

The Sretensky deanery of the Moscow city diocese unites the churches of the Meshchansky and Tverskoy districts of the Central Administrative District of Moscow; The deanery also includes the Vysoko-Petrovsky Monastery, the Sretensky Monastery and the Mother of God Nativity Convent.

The Sretensky deanery was formed in 1996 and as of 2011 includes 47 churches and 9 chapels[24][25].

The dean of the district is Archpriest Oleg Klemyshev, rector of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Pechatniki[26]. Address: st. Sretenka, 3.

The Epiphany deanery includes churches and parishes located in the Basmanny and Krasnoselsky districts of the Central Administrative District. Formed in 1996, it was previously part of the Preobrazhenskoe deanery.

The dean is Archimandrite Dionysius (Shishigin), rector of the Church of St. Nicholas in Pokrovskoye. Address: Moscow, Bakuninskaya st., 100.

As of December 2011, the deanery includes 32 churches and 10 chapels, including 1 cathedral church (Epiphany Cathedral in Elokhov), 1 baptismal church (Baptismal Church of St. Basil at the Epiphany Cathedral), 19 parish churches, 4 Patriarchal metochions , 2 churches of the Representation of the Antioch Patriarchate, 2 ascribed churches, 1 house church, 2 churches of the St. John the Baptist Convent (the abbess of the monastery is Abbess Afanasia (Grosheva)). In 5 churches, services have not been resumed. The clergy includes 57 priests and 22 deacons[27].

The Western Vicariate unites the deaneries of the Western Administrative District of Moscow. At the end of 2011, the vicariate included 61 churches[31]. On October 29, 2015, the management of the vicariate was entrusted to His Grace Tikhon, Bishop of Yegoryevsk, vicar of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus'[32].

The St. George Deanery unites churches in the districts of the Western Administrative District of Moscow: Kuntsevo, Krylatskoye, Filevsky Park, Dorogomilovo, Fili-Davydkovo, Mozhaisky. As of July 2012, it included 21 temples. Dean - Archpriest Seraphim Nedosekin, rector of the Church of St. George the Victorious - Patriarchal Metochion on Poklonnaya Hill.

After the division of the Transfiguration Deanery, Archpriest Leonid Roldugin (rector of the Church of the Nativity of Christ in Izmailovo) remained the dean of the Nativity Deanery; now the dean is Archpriest John Ermilov, rector of the Church of the Kazan (Peschanskaya) Icon of the Mother of God in Izmailovo.

The Blachernae deanery was separated on April 9, 2012 from the Peter and Paul deanery. The dean is the rector of the church in honor of the icon of the Mother of God “Quench My Sorrows” in Maryino, Archpriest Anatoly Rodionov. Unites churches in the Nekrasovka, Vykhino-Zhulebino, Kuzminki, Lyublino, Maryino, and Kapotnya districts. As of June 2012, there were seven temples.

Peter and Paul Deanery

The Peter and Paul Deanery unites the churches of part of the South-Eastern Administrative District of Moscow.

On the territory of the district there is a former Nikolo-Perervinsky monastery, which since 1995 has the status of a Patriarchal metochion.
