Seraphim-Sarov Monastery

- Orthodox male monastery. Founded in 1995. On the territory of the monastery there is an apiary, a stocked pond, vegetable gardens and flower beds.

History[edit]

The creation of the monastery began in 1995 with the transfer of a plot of land by the administration of the Gribanovsky district, at the request of the ruling bishop. The famous Solovtsov Garden with centuries-old trees and a quiet overgrown pond, an old noble estate, belonged to the hero of the Caucasian War, General Solovtsov. By the highest order of the All-Russian Emperor Nicholas II, he was granted this estate in the Tambov province (now the Voronezh region).

By the providence of God this place was predestined for the construction of a monastery, as evidenced by the ditch around the estate, like a fossil, as in Diveevo, by the will of the Mother of God and protecting the boundaries of the new monastery with her Veil.

The centuries-old forest resembles the dense Sarov forest, where the saint of God, Father Seraphim, lived. Under the thick canopy of linden trees is a small house, its appearance reminiscent of a desert, where the monk prayed and received numerous visitors.

The reverend elder greeted everyone who came with the words “My joy, Christ is Risen!” These words of Father Seraphim still resonate to this day for everyone who comes to the monastery, gathering many people seeking the salvation of their souls.

The first inhabitants appeared here in 1996. They lived in a trailer in the middle of the forest. In the autumn of the same year, the site and the first foundation stone of the monastery’s temple, bearing the name of the Universal Lamp, were consecrated. In August 1998 there was a great consecration of the temple. The temple was consecrated by Metropolitan Methodius. From that moment the spiritual formation of the newly consecrated monastery began. The grace of God visibly manifested its presence in this holy place. Interesting fact: photographs taken from a bird's eye view show that the centuries-old linden alleys are shaped like a cross.

Three times in the monastery there was a myrrh-streaming miraculous image of the passion-bearer Tsar Nicholas. The first time he was in the monastery was in May 2001 and on the evening of May 8 he smelled fragrant and flowed myrrh. Myrrh also flowed from the relics located in the monastery and the icon of the Mother of God “Quick to Hear.” In April 2002, the icon of the martyr king, after a prayer service, abundantly poured myrrh and along with it the temple image of Christ the Savior “King of Glory”.

Abundant myrrh flow was also observed on Lazarus Saturday, when a prayer service was held for Tsar Nicholas. In memory of all these events and to commemorate the arrival of the miraculous image of Tsar Martyr Nicholas, a summer church was founded and created in honor of the holy royal martyrs. In September 2004, the icon consecrated the land of the monastery with its presence for the third time and on September 19, the new church was consecrated by His Eminence Sergius Metropolitan of Voronezh and Borisoglebsk.

The names of the last Russian Emperor and St. Seraphim of Sarov, from the time of glorification, have a deep spiritual connection, and here in the monastery two great prayer books united before the Throne of God for the Russian people and the revival of Russia.

Modern period

After the closure, the Labor Commune of factory N4 NKT (People's Commissariat of Labor) was created on the territory of the monastery, the main task of which was “to re-educate street children through the involvement of pupils in labor processes.” Until 1931, about 3.5 thousand children lived in the commune. After 1931, the commune was closed, and in its place a correctional labor colony for teenagers and adults of the NKVD system was organized.

Since November 1938, after the liquidation of the NKVD colony, its production base was transferred to the jurisdiction of the People's Commissariat of Mechanical Engineering. According to his decision, the production of pressing equipment and high-explosive fragmentation shells of 152 mm caliber will be organized in Sarov. The plant was reconstructed, constantly expanded, and in 1941 it was transferred to the jurisdiction of the People's Commissariat of Ammunition and received N550.

In the period from 1942-1943. The production of shell casings for Katyusha rocket launchers was established here. Every fifth projectile fired at the enemy had a casing manufactured at the N550 plant.

In 1946, Sarov was elected by Yu.B. Khariton and I.V. Kurchatov to create a secret facility on its territory, the purpose of which was to create nuclear weapons. After 1946, for reasons of secrecy, Sarov, or, as it was then called, “Settlement KB-11,” disappears from all maps for a long time. Its names are constantly changing: KB-11, Moscow Center-300, Kremlev, Arzamas-16. Through the efforts of leading scientists, technicians and workers, headed by Yu.B. Khariton and I.V. Kurchatov, the secret facility begins to actively function.

    Kostomarovo

    – In the Voronezh region there are amazing places Divnogorye and Belogorye. We learned about Divnogorye from Tatyana Afanasyeva’s gulbari and decided to go and see the miracle of nature. We were inspired to continue our journey by our guide to Divnogorye.

In 1993 In Kostomarovo, the clearing of cave temples began. In 1997 The Spassky Women's Diocesan Monastery was opened here. Three nuns arrived at a completely empty place located at the foot of a chalk mountain with abandoned cave churches, among whom was the first abbess of the monastery, Abbess Serafima (Ivanova).

The new history of the monastery began with these three sisters. Over the course of 18 years, the cave churches in which services are held were restored, and the Church of the Mother of God “Recovery of the Lost” was built. Tours are conducted in the temple by nuns, which begins with a story about Blessed Petrusha and his gift of foresight and healing.

At the end of the 30s he was arrested and died in prison, but there is a legend that Blessed Petrusha disappeared from a closed cell.

Spassky Temple is the largest cave among the Kostomarovsky dungeons. The entrance to it is located at the base of two divas, between which the bell tower of the Spassky Monastery is now located.

The cave contains a whole underground complex with cells, a temple and a tomb. Today, this is the only cave preserved in the Don region, which is a Christian temple with two altars (the main altar and the chapel).

“Blessed Heaven” is especially revered by pilgrims who come to the Spassky Church today It is written on iron (the size of a human being) in the “Vasnetsov” style.

For cave temples, icons were painted on iron, since wood quickly became unusable in conditions of high humidity.

    Advice

On the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos from the Spassky Church, holes from shots are visible: the atheists fired at the icon, aiming at the Divine faces. But not a single face depicted on the icon was damaged: all six bullets fell nearby. During times of persecution of the church, local residents hid the icon in their basements so that it would not be completely destroyed.

Holy spring of Seraphim of Sarov

In different parts of Russia there are holy springs of St. Seraphim of Sarov, which are famous for their healing and miraculous properties. According to legend, bathing in holy waters helps people with physical and mental illnesses. Those believers who want to personally turn to the venerable elder for help in worldly affairs or ask him to pray for them before the Lord also come to the springs.

Life of St. Seraphim of Sarov

Seraphim of Sarov was a great ascetic of the Orthodox Church. After his birth in 1754 in the city of Kursk, the boy was baptized under the name Prokhor. From his youth, the future monk loved to immerse himself in reading the Holy Gospel, study the lives of saints, or pray alone.

Having reached the age of 24, the young man asked his mother to bless him, since he was going to enter a monastery. Having said a heartfelt goodbye to his family, he went to Sarov, where he became a novice. Soon the young man took monastic vows and received a new name - Seraphim. Later, in the Sarov Monastery he was appointed to serve in the rank of hierodeacon.

For his special humility, the Lord Jesus Christ granted Seraphim visions of grace - during church services Angels and the Lord himself appeared to him along with the retinue of the Heavenly Ethereal Powers. More than once the Queen of Heaven appeared to the ascetic, saving his life and healing him from illness.

The Lord's chosen one spent fifteen years in the most difficult monastic feat - living in the desert. In a small cell, built among a dense forest and swamps, he renounced worldly thoughts and took a vow of silence.

The entire life of the Venerable Elder Seraphim was filled with humility, prayers and service to the Lord. He addressed people with the words “my joy,” was infinitely kind to those around him, and his word had enormous power.

The elder’s prayers were capable of working miracles, helping the terminally ill to be healed.

    Kostomarovsky Spassky Monastery

Kostomarovsky Women's Orthodox Monastery is a famous cave monastery in the Voronezh region, located two kilometers from the right bank of the Don River near the village of Kostomarovo.

Today, this is one of three active cave monasteries in the region and one of its main shrines, also known as Russian Palestine. The main attraction of the monastery are the unique cave temples located in the thickness of the chalk mountain.

    Story

Unfortunately, at the moment there is no single point of view regarding the time of creation of the amazing cave temples - the main attraction of the Spassky Convent. Written evidence has not survived to this day; only oral traditions, assumptions and memories of old-timers remain.
