Icon of the Matrona of Moscow in the Intercession Monastery

The Intercession Monastery on Taganka in Moscow is a convent where the relics of the saint and her images - holy icons - now reside. Interestingly, there is a written image on the wall of the monastery. Come to the icon and relics of St. Matrona of Moscow with roses (of course, preferably an odd number) - St. Matronushka loved them during her lifetime - place them near the icon or at the relics.

Buy church candles and before the image of the blessed one in the temple, read the prayer according to the text below. Talk to her as if she were alive - that’s what she asked herself. Place a pre-written note behind the icon, under the icon, or push it into a slot in the icon case (you can write a note right in the temple). Before or after prayer, light a candle from other candles in a candlestick, place it, cross yourself twice, bow and kiss the image of the saint on the hand or hem of the robe, cross yourself again and bow.

When people stand in line to see the saint’s relics, everyone worships the image on the wall and prays to the Matronushka in front of it. Often there is no strength to stand in a long line to see the relics, and people simply pray at the icon - and, of course, Matronushka helps everyone. You can also purchase in the church an icon of Matronushka for home prayer and church candles, which you will light during prayer at home.

short biography

The future saint and blessed Matrona Dmitrievna Nikonova was born in 1881 in the small village of Sebino, located near the city of Tula. Matrona's parents were poor peasants and raised three more children. The girl was born blind, and her best friends were the icons with whom she talked for a long time. She lived the rest of her life, deprived of sight, but she amazed those around her with her inner strength and ability to find the right path (lifetime photo of the saint):

From an early age, Matrona showed love for church services and prayers, and considered the temple her second home. Even as a child, she discovered the gift of foresight and healing. People in need of help constantly came to the house where the girl lived. As a token of gratitude, they brought things and food, so the Nikonov family was able to survive in conditions of extreme poverty.

At the age of 17, Matrona lost her legs completely. After the October Revolution she moved to Moscow. Here, despite the persecution of the Soviet regime, Mother continued to receive the suffering and sick. During this period, she made many predictions regarding the Great Patriotic War and the future fate of Russia.

Saint Matrona of Moscow lived 70 years. In May 1952, the blessed old woman died. She knew about her death in advance, but until the last day of her earthly life she did not stop receiving visitors. Matrona was buried at the Danilovsky cemetery. In 1998, the relics of the blessed one were transferred to the Holy Intercession Monastery. A year later, Matrona of Moscow was glorified as a saint, and in 2004 her church-wide canonization took place.

Matrona Moscow icon meaning - up to 800 characters.

Like many saints, from birth the saint was accompanied by signs of God's grace: Matronushka's mother, Natalya, in a dream saw a beautiful but blind white bird that landed on her chest. Natalya immediately realized that this was a prophetic dream from the Lord, and left the child in the family. Since childhood, the blessed one prayed a lot in church and at home, and attended divine services. At the age of 17, Matronushka lost her legs, but the Lord rewarded her with the gift of healing and insight.

Therefore, in the icon the saint is depicted with her eyes closed - physically blind, but spiritually sighted.

There is a tradition of going to Matronushka for help with flowers - a living offering to her, evidence of the sincerity of your prayer and love for the saint. You will definitely feel that Matrona of Moscow becomes like family to you, as for many people - that’s why she is affectionately called Matronushka. In the Pokrovsky Monastery there are always many bouquets of fresh flowers around the shrine (tomb) with the holy relics of the blessed one. Often priests give their blessing to take flowers laid by other people who are seriously suffering and ill as a gift from the Matrona of Moscow herself.

Remember that saints hear our prayer not only near their icons or relics. Like the Lord, Saint Matrona is always nearby and hears the call of the heart.

Every day about 40 people came to the saint for help; she spent the night in prayer, dozing only occasionally. With humility, she bore the heavy cross of bodily infirmities and did not grumble, but accepted God’s will for herself. She received many, helped everyone with prophetic advice, and at night she prayed for everyone. She died in 1952. By traditional standards, Saint Matrona of Moscow was canonized shortly after her death - in 1999.

What does the saint help with?

Before calling on the old woman for help, it is necessary to prayerfully turn to the Lord Jesus Christ and His Most Holy Mother. Only then should you turn to your mother so that she can intercede on behalf of the prayer book before the Almighty.

  • Mother helps save the family, even if the marriage ties are “bursting at the seams.”

  • About studying and before the exam
  • About losing weight

The holy old woman is popularly considered a great intercessor. You can turn to her with absolutely any problem and she will definitely help.

Important! Even during her lifetime, mother did not refuse anyone; she fulfilled everything, even small everyday requests. But she categorically did not allow people asking for help to simultaneously turn to her and to fortune-tellers, sorcerers and other servants of dark forces. Therefore, when asking for help from Saint Matrona, you should no longer resort to anyone’s intercession.

Repentant sinners often turn to the holy old woman in the hope of begging forgiveness from the Lord. Matrona pays special attention to orphans deprived of parental love and affection. She helps the needy and homeless people who have lost all the blessings of life.

But first of all, the miracle worker helps those who need her help and are unable to continue living without her support.

What icons are in the Church of the Matrona of Moscow

The veneration of Saint Matrona blessed the Church. With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II, her holy relics were found on March 8, 1998. The icons in the Church of the Intercession Monastery are similar to traditional temple icons.

The icon of the Divine Trinity is an icon of the Lord Himself. The icon shows the most important dogmas of the Orthodox faith, contains an interpretation of the Bible and a prophetic representation of the main event in world history - the Incarnation of God, the descent into the world of the Savior Jesus Christ.

The image of the Lord Jesus Christ is the most important icon in every home. This is an image of God Himself, incarnate and accepting death on the Cross for the sake of people. In front of the iconographic face of the Lord Jesus they ask for help in everything, about all troubles, illnesses and difficulties. The image of the Lord in the temple is easily recognized by the cross-shaped halo, symbolizing the glory of the Cross, with which the Lord defeated death, and the light shown to his disciples on Mount Tabor.

There are many miraculous icons of the Mother of God revered by the Orthodox Church. In the church of the Intercession Monastery there is the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God, and the Don Icon, and many that are revered in Moscow. Traditionally, people pray in front of different icons of the Mother of God in different circumstances, different everyday difficulties. Remember that there is only one Mother of God, but each person can choose his favorite image of the Mother of God and pray to the Queen of Heaven in front of him.

Childhood of a holy saint

Matronushka was born into a pious family. She was the youngest of four children. At the time of her birth, her parents were already old. They lived poorly, and the saint’s mother decided to give the child away from the family. However, the Lord did not allow this, and through a dream he influenced Matrona’s mother. She dreamed that a beautiful bird landed in her arms. But the bird had no eyes. The mother interpreted this dream as a sign from above that the child should be left in her own family.

The saint of God was born blind, like that bird from her mother’s dream. At birth she had a cross-shaped bulge on her chest. The blind baby became a joy for her family, instead of being a burden. The older the girl became, the more it became clear that this child was different from other children. And not only externally.

The other children did not like Matrona. They mocked her, knowing the girl’s defenselessness. And from an early age she was most often at home. Didn't play with peers.

How to properly place the image in the house?

Be sure to place the saint’s face on the iconostasis in the Red Corner, which is located on the eastern side of the house and is located opposite the entrance. The icon should be positioned so that a person entering the house immediately draws attention to the face of the saint.

Often the icon is covered with white cloth on both sides, decorated with embroidered flowers. Near the face it is allowed to keep Holy Scriptures, candles and other items that are important for performing daily prayer.

Reviews

Elena, 32 years old

I couldn’t get pregnant for more than 5 years; my husband and I were on the verge of divorce due to constant quarrels. In the church we were advised to turn to Matrona of Moscow for help. I bought a body icon for myself and my husband with the image of a saint. After a few weeks, I noticed that peace had reigned in the family. And a month later I found out that I would soon become a mother.

Maria, 28 years old

The second pregnancy was difficult, doctors did not guarantee a favorable outcome of the birth. The eldest son also had terrible jealousy towards his future brother, he was constantly rude. I decided to buy a body icon of the Matrona of Moscow, wore it constantly, and asked for help. Then the time for childbirth came, she gave birth to a strong and healthy son. And now the eldest doesn’t leave the baby’s side, he helps me with everything.

Ekaterina, 48 years old

My daughter has already grown up, lives separately, but somehow everything in her life is awry. It seems like he’s trying, but there’s no luck or happiness. And my heart hurts for her. I bought her a body icon of the Matrona of Moscow. And gradually everything got better - I was promoted at work, I met a decent guy, my money problems disappeared.

What does the appearance of a holy image in a dream mean?

An ambiguous question that plagues many. Sometimes the Lord really does send prophetic dreams - but this is such a rare event that it may not happen to everyone. Most often, the brain simply “processes” the information it dealt with during the day. If a person made a pilgrimage, visited a temple, it is not surprising that he dreamed of the icon of Matrona. No special importance should be attached.

Let us remember the story of the appearance of the Kazan Icon: the girl dreamed of the Mother of God, but neither her mother nor the representatives of the clergy initially reacted to this. This behavior is not accidental - most dreams really don't mean anything. The blessed old woman herself taught not to pay attention to dreams. It is possible that these are the machinations of the evil one. And attaching importance to such thoughts is a serious sin, which only gets worse the further a person goes into reasoning.

The best thing is to just forget about everything. True, if you dreamed of one of the saints, it would not be superfluous to reconsider your life. Yes, Blessed Matrona herself possessed the gift of foresight, but how many can boast of the same spirituality? It is better not to guess why the icon of the matron is dreaming; after sleep, pray to the Lord for peace of mind.
