God gave the commandments through the prophet Moses
Moses is one of the most famous prophets. This man, by the will of God, could part the sea and extract water from the rock. Moses performed many miracles and lived to a ripe old age. He is the same man who began to write the Bible. The first five books in it are from the pen of Moses:
- Being.
- Exodus.
- Leviticus.
- Numbers.
- Deuteronomy.
Together they are called the Pentateuch of Moses. And among the Jews they are known as the Torah.
Moses
the same man who brought the 10 commandments to humanity
But the main thing this prophet did was bring the 10 commandments to humanity. This happened about 35 centuries ago - a very long time ago! Almost no buildings have survived from those times. Only the Egyptian pyramids are witnesses of that time.
By the way, Moses saw the pyramids. He grew up in Egypt and was the adopted son of a princess. But one day God reminded Moses that his native people - the people of Israel - were suffering in slavery to the Egyptian Pharaoh. The Lord ordered the unfortunate people to be freed and taken to new lands.
Moses performed many miracles and led the people of Israel through the desert to Mount Sinai. At its top he met God. There the prophet received a stone tablet - a tablet. They contained the Law of God - the Ten Commandments. We will now tell about them for children.
Commandment 2. “You shall not make for yourself an idol or any image; do not worship them or serve them."
An idol is an authority. That is, someone whose opinion is important to us. We don't argue with what this person says. We believe everything he says. Is it dangerous. We can be deceived and confused. Only God can be trusted 100%.
At other times the Lord calls us to think. Remember the fairy tale about Little Red Riding Hood. She believed the wolf - and he ate her grandmother.
Pinocchio was seduced by the promises of the stories of Alice the Fox and Basilio the Cat. As a result, he was robbed. We cannot allow strangers to decide for us what is right and what is wrong.
Mom and dad and relatives help us until we grow up. They can be trusted. We listen to God all our lives. A teacher at school teaches us knowledge. But in all other cases you should be careful.
The world is full of evil and simply stupid people. They can give bad advice.
“Let your Lord be the only God, Although there are always many different idols in life, Serve only Him with all your soul! Trust in God, not in people!”
Other people's advice can be harmful, just like what happened with Santa Claus in this picture. Therefore, the second commandment warns against idols (advisers)
