PRAYERS TO ARCHISTRATIG MICHAEL
First prayer
Holy and great Archangel of God Michael, the inscrutable and all-essential Trinity, the first primate of the Angels, the guardian and guardian of the human race, crushing with his army the head of the proud Denis in heaven and putting to shame his malice and deceit on earth! We resort to you with faith and we pray to you with love: be an indestructible shield and a strong shield for the Holy Church and our Orthodox Fatherland, protecting them with your lightning sword from all enemies, visible and invisible. Do not, O Archangel of God, forsake us through your help and intercession, who today glorify your holy name: behold, even though we are many sinners, we do not want to perish in our iniquities, but to turn to the Lord and be quickened by Him to do good deeds . Illuminate our minds with the light of God’s face, which shines on your lightning-like brow, so that we can understand that God’s will for us is good and perfect, and that we know all that it is fitting for us to do and that which we should despise and abandon. Strengthen our weak will and weak will with the grace of the Lord, so that, having established ourselves in the law of the Lord, we will cease to be dominated by earthly thoughts and the lusts of the flesh, carried away in the likeness of senseless children by the soon-to-perish beauties of this world, as if for the sake of the corruptible and earthly it is foolish to forget the eternal and heavenly. For all of these, ask us from above for the spirit of true repentance, unfeigned sadness for God and contrition for our sins, so that we may spend the remaining number of days of our temporary life not in pleasing our feelings and working with our passions, but in erasing the evils we have committed with tears of faith and contrition of heart, deeds of purity and holy deeds of mercy. When the hour of our end approaches, liberation from the bonds of this mortal body, do not leave us. Archangel of God, defenseless against the spirits of wickedness in heaven, accustomed to block the souls of mankind from rising to heaven, yes, protected by you, we will reach those glorious villages of paradise without stumbling, where there is no sorrow, no sighing, but endless life, and, being honored to see the bright face of the All-Blessed Lord and Master ours, falling with tears at His feet, let us exclaim in joy and tenderness: glory to Thee, our dearest Redeemer, Who for Thy great love for us, unworthy, was pleased to send Thy angels to serve our salvation! Amen.
Second prayer
O Saint Michael the Archangel, have mercy on us sinners who demand your intercession, save us, servants of God (names), from all visible and invisible enemies, moreover, strengthen us from mortal horror and from the embarrassment of the devil, and grant us the ability to unashamedly present ourselves to our Creator in the terrible hour and His righteous Judgment. O all-holy, great Michael the Archangel! Do not despise us sinners who pray to you for help and your intercession in this world and in the future, but grant us there together with you to glorify the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
Prayer three
Lord, Great God, King without beginning, send Your Archangel Michael to help Your servants (name). Protect us, Archangel, from all enemies, visible and invisible. Oh, Lord the Great Archangel Michael! Destroyer of demons, forbid all enemies fighting me, and make them like demons, and humble their evil hearts, and crush them like dust in the face of the wind. Oh, Lord the Great Archangel Michael! Six-winged first Prince and Governor of the Heavenly Forces - Cherubim and Seraphim, be our helper in all troubles, sorrows, sorrows, a quiet refuge in the desert and on the seas. Oh, Lord the Great Archangel Michael! Deliver us from all the charms of the devil, when You hear us, sinners, praying to You and calling on Your Holy name. Hasten to our aid and overcome all who oppose us, by the power of the Honest and Life-giving Cross of the Lord, by the prayers of the Most Holy Theotokos, by the prayers of the Holy Apostles, St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, Andrew, for Christ's sake, the Fool for the Fool, St. the prophet Elijah and all the holy great martyrs: St. martyrs Nikita and Eustathius, and all our reverend fathers, who have pleased God from the ages, and all the holy Heavenly Powers. Oh, Lord the Great Archangel Michael! Help us sinners (name) and deliver us from cowardice, flood, fire, sword and vain death, from great evil, from the flattering enemy, from the reviled storm, from the evil one always, now and ever, and forever and ever. Amen. Holy Archangel of God Michael, with Your lightning sword, drive away from me the evil spirit that tempts and torments me. Amen.
PRAYERS TO ANGELS AND PRAYERS TO ARCHANGELS FOR EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK
Prayer to the Holy Angels
To you, as the intercessor and guardian of my life, I am a damned one, falling down, I pray: grant me with your prayers a day's stay, in a godly and unskillful way to pass away from evil deeds and thoughts. Open my ears, so that I may hear and understand the deeds and words of God that are beneficial to my soul, so that I may see my inner eyes, overwhelmed by the darkness of sin. Pray for me, who sins all the time, so that the sword of the wrath of the Lord does not girdle me: for my iniquity has exceeded my head, and like a heavy burden has weighed down on me. But You, my Lord, look upon me, and have mercy on me, and bring my sinful soul out of prison, before I even leave here, and I will not come to Your Last Judgment. Receive Thy holy Angels praying for us, who stand around Thy throne with fear, and with those prayers, more than the Most Pure Mother, deliver me from Thy terrible and terrible judgment. For you are the Lamb of God, taking away the sins of the whole world, crucified on our cross for the sake of salvation; listen to my prayer, and send the Guardian Angel of my soul and body, so that we instruct that I will get rid of all enemies, visible and invisible, and I will be worthy to receive Your mercy, with all those who have pleased You from the beginning, for You are our God, and I resort to You, and I trust in You, even though men have sinned more, but I have not retreated from You, nor have I lifted up my hand to another god, I pray to You, Lord Jesus Christ, I will bless You, and I worship You from the One Trinity, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and forever and ever. Amen.

About Archangel Michael
The inhabitants of heaven have their own hierarchy. According to the Holy Fathers, they were created by God before people. And although at this time a person is much weaker than them, these are the consequences of sin. After all, initially it was Adam and Eve who were the crown of creation, but they lost their position. And now prayer to Archangel Michael gives mortals very strong protection from enemies.
So, who is this heavenly intercessor? His name is known from the Holy Scriptures, and his role is also known. Archangel Michael is the leader of the heavenly army, consisting of angels. He will lead the troops during the final battle with the devil and his servants. In the days before Jesus was born, he helped the Israelites by showing them the way during their flight from Egypt. As an angel, he has supernatural powers.
That is why, calling on him to give very strong protection, a person can be sure that his ill-wishers will be defeated.
When to say a prayer for protection
Angels are protectors of people, so prayer to them should be daily. In addition to the archangels, there are also personal guardian angels who are given during baptism - this is the opinion of the Orthodox Church. They can tell you how to do the right thing - not in the literal sense, but in the soul a person will know the answer to his questions, he realizes them in his soul.
You need to ask for protection especially strongly during times of temptation. Angels are able to see evil and resist it, because their spirituality is much greater than human. That is why only the most chosen saints were honored with a personal meeting with these God's helpers - for example, the father of John the Baptist, the righteous Seraphim of Sarov and the Most Pure Virgin herself.
They pray to Archangel Michael for protection from body ailments and to overcome life’s difficulties. When starting a new business, to give the strongest protection to your home. As a talisman, many broadcast icons and a crucifix over the entrance. But we must understand that these are only symbols that do not act on their own. These are like conductors of spiritual energy; they help the believer to concentrate during petition.

The first images of the Archangel are known from the Roman catacombs. Then Christians wrote him as a young man. Only later, from the 5th century, wings and a halo were added to the image.
Most of the famous icons represent him as a young man, dressed in a tunic, over which is a cape-himatium. Sometimes the Angel’s vestment is the so-called “lorat”, that is, it is supplemented with lor, a wide ribbon encircling the waist and chest. This is how especially significant Angels are usually written.
A mandatory element of the image is a ribbon on the hair. According to Russian tradition, its raised ends are called “rumors”, symbolizing constant readiness to fulfill the will of God.
In the hands of a servant of the Lord there may be:
- rod - symbolizes angelic dignity, as well as messengership;
- sphere is a symbol of the universe;
- heavenly branch;
- scroll; this image is typical for temple frescoes; On the unfolded sheet are written instructions for those entering the church.

Interlocutor of the Prophet Daniel, messenger of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, the Incarnation of the Savior, the Guardian of the Mother of God, who accompanied the Most Pure One throughout her earthly life - all this is perhaps the Archangel Gabriel most often mentioned in Scripture.
The Greek "Γαβριήλιος" and the Hebrew "Gabriel" mean "God's power" or "man of God." Church tradition says that this is one of the 7 Archangels. They belong to 8 of the 9 Angelic ranks, that is, after the Angels they are closest to people.
The Bible mentions Angels and Archangels as announcers of the will of God. But if the Angels protect believers on their path of life, guiding and instructing, then the mission of the Archangels is to communicate the special secrets of God concerning the most important events for humanity, first of all, salvation. According to God’s inscrutable destinies, it fell to Gabriel to proclaim God’s words more than once at turning points in human history.
Herald of the Incarnation and Resurrection
The “man Gabriel,” who announced the exact time of the Birth of the Messiah, is mentioned in the Book of the Prophet Daniel, written 600 years before the birth of Christ. The Archangel announced:
“Seventy weeks are ordained for your people and for your holy city, that the transgression may be covered, the sins may be sealed, the iniquity may be blotted out, and everlasting righteousness may be brought in, and the vision and the prophet may be sealed, and the Holy of Holies may be anointed.”
70 weeks amounted to 490 years, it was during this time that the Jewish people expected the Messiah.
After the fulfillment of time, the same servant of God directly prepared people for the Incarnation of the Savior. Tradition states that:
- Gabriel announced the rights. Joachim and Anna, childless, persecuted by their fellow tribesmen, about the birth of their Daughter - the Most Pure Mother of God;
- he became her Guardian when Mary lived at the Jerusalem Temple;
- From him the priest Zacharias learned about the future birth of his son, St. John the Baptist; by the will of God, the priest was punished for his lack of faith, so that until the Nativity of John he could not utter a word;
- and six months after these events, Gabriel announced the Nativity of the Son to the modest Mary, the imaginary wife of the elder Joseph of Nazareth, who dedicated herself to God;
- describing the Nativity of Jesus, St. Luke speaks of the angelic army who announced the event to the shepherds of the sheep; Gabriel is not named here, but Tradition believes that the choir of the Heavenly Powers singing “Glory to God in the highest...” was led by him;
- Tradition also believes that it was Gabriel who appeared to the Lord on the eve of the Crucifixion, when Christ was praying in Gethsemane;
- three days later, the women who came to the tomb heard from the Archangel about the Resurrection of Jesus.
Guardian of the Virgin Mary
In subsequent years, Gabriel, apparently, was closest to the Most Pure Mother of God as Her Guardian since childhood:
- when the lot fell to the Most Pure One to preach His Son in Iberia, he, appearing to Her, commanded Mary to remain in Jerusalem, saying that she would be given a different destiny;
- 3 days before his death, the servant of God, coming to the Mother of God, conveyed this joyful news to Her, handing over a flowering branch from the Garden of Eden.
Veneration in Rus'
But the Russians firmly connected Gabriel with the Mother of God. It is known that in the 12th century. The Archbishop of Novgorod, named after the Archangel, and therefore especially revered him, built a temple, but not of the “man of God,” but of the Annunciation.
It is believed that the first temple of Gabriel appeared only in 1413 in Novgorod. And since 1584, Gabriel’s chapel has been known at the Annunciation Cathedral in Moscow.
The name of the Archangel was considered one of those that was often given to princes at Baptism. Among such rulers are known:
- Prince Vsevolod (11th century), holy protector of Pskov;
- son of Vsevolod the Big Nest Svyatoslav (XII century);
- Vasily III (XVI century); It is interesting that, being baptized as Vasily, he was also called “by his first name” Gabriel, since he was born on the day of remembrance of the Archangel.
The image of the Archangel is on the coat of arms of the Russian Empire, approved by Alexander III on November 3, 1882. In the center of the coat of arms is a shield held by the arch. Mikhail and Gabriel.
Memorial Days
From the first centuries, the Church had an ambivalent attitude towards the special cult of the Heavenly Powers, since already from that time heretical movements were known, for which prayers to the Angels were higher than appeals to the Creator of the world. Apparently, for this reason, the special services of the arch. Gabriel, the days of his memory appeared no earlier than the 8th-9th centuries. And there were about 5 temples dedicated to him on the territory of Byzantium, including the church on the site of the Annunciation (Nazareth).
The Archangel was especially revered:
- the day after the Annunciation;
- November 8 along with other Heavenly Forces;
- June 11 (from the end of the 10th century).
On this day, a miraculous appearance occurred to one of the monks of Mount Athos; An unfamiliar monk asked to stay in his cell for the night. During the prayer rule, when they began to sing the glorification of the Mother of God “The most honorable Cherub...”, an unfamiliar monk suddenly began to chant with the words “It is worthy to eat...”. Touched, the owner of the cell asked to record the chant. Only when he saw that the one who had appeared was writing down words with a finger on a stone, as if on wax, did the Athonite monk realize that he had accepted an Angel under his roof. It is believed that this was Gabriel, a great admirer of the Most Pure One.
