What can you go to hell for? How to live so as not to go to hell

When you do something, you should think about how not to slip into one of the seven deadly sins. These sins are pride, anger, greed, gluttony, lust, envy and sloth. Church historians say the concept of the seven deadly sins originated with Pope Gregory I.

Back in 400, he reworked the lists of “evil thoughts”, taking them from the ancient Sumerian, Greek, and Egyptian cultures and deducing from them the seven most egregious moral offenses. He did this in order to help Christians escape the hellish afterlife. Christians believe that hell has special punishments for those who commit one or more of the seven deadly sins. History does not record how these “traditional” punishments came about, but most of them do not seem to have a close connection with sin itself. Next we will give a brief overview of the sins considered mortal and the punishments for them.

Pride

Pride is the dangerously depraved selfishness that arises when one’s own desires and whims are placed above the well-being of others. This vicious sin leads to other vices and separates a person from God's grace. Pride is considered the worst of sins. The punishment for it is breaking the wheel - wheeling. Previously, the wheel used to break the bones of the arms and legs. This was considered a method of torture. From Greek mythology we know the wheel of fire to which sinners were tied in Tartarus. This flaming wheel revolved forever. So to be forever burning in flames and spinning all the time is pretty terrifying.

Description of Hell in the Bible

The meaning of the word hell is the invisible. This is how the word aedos is translated from Greek. The Bible describes hell as an invisible underground region where sinners are tormented and where the Lord descends. According to church tradition, the souls of the dead, from the 9th to the 40th day, become acquainted with the order that reigns here. A person is made to understand what the sin he commits leads to. And how you will have to answer for him, appearing in court before the Almighty.

The first description of hell in the Bible is found in the prophet Isaiah: “Hell hell began to move for you... and you became powerless, like us! and you have become like us! Your pride with all your noise has been cast into the pit; a worm lies beneath you, and worms are your covering... you are cast into hell, into the depths of the underworld... All the kings of the nations, all lie with honor, each in his own tomb; and you are cast down outside your tomb, like a despised branch, like the clothing of those killed, struck down by the sword, who are lowered into stone ditches - you, like a trampled corpse, will not be united with them in the grave; for you have destroyed your land, you have killed your people: the tribe of evildoers will never be remembered.” (Isa. 14:9-20).

In this biblical passage, hell does not look like a place of torment for sinners. But rather, it looks like an abandoned warehouse for old, unnecessary rags. Only instead of rags, dead people are in hell. Remember this point, it is important for our further conversation.

The imprisonment of the soul of a sinner in the underworld is described at length in the Bible by the prophet Ezekiel. Here is a characteristic image of hell, as imagined by the prophet:

“There is Assur and all his hordes, around him are their graves, all slain, fallen by the sword. His tombs are placed in the very depths of the underworld, and his horde is around his tomb, all slain, fallen by the sword, those who spread terror in the land of the living.”

Greed

When a person is obsessed with the thirst for profit and strives for material property, then he is obsessed with the sin of greed. But now this is a very sensitive topic, since modern society is built on capitalism, which requires some greed. The punishment for this sin is that the person is boiled in large cauldrons. Even a technically dead subject feels the full pain of this punishment. And for usury, which is also a sin, the sinner will be hung upside down and eaten by worms.

Gluttony

Excessive passion for food, reaching the point of wastefulness, is gluttony or gluttony, another mortal sin. St. Thomas of Aquitaine was the first to criticize gluttony. He took this sin to another level by breaking it down into different forms of manifestation. If you, for example, love expensive food, then you are a glutton. If you look forward to food, then you are a glutton. Therefore, punishment awaits you in hell - there you will do your favorite thing - gluttony. But the menu will be very different from yours. Instead of your favorite foods, you will eat rats, spiders and toads.

Hell is underground, and the soul is next to God

The soul from which this dirty water is washed off remains with God, as mentioned above. But she is missing one of the parts of the Trinity of God's creation, under the name man. I think this is a very depressing incompleteness. Imagine that you exist and at the same time you don’t feel a third of yourself. Such a soul is also in quarantine, as it were, and is not capable of reincarnation. It turns out that the soul did not die, but the sinful person in it died.

And only the descent into hell of Christ will become for such souls a moment of rebirth. Light will conquer darkness. All negative information over which Satan languishes in his hellish dungeon will be erased. This concludes the description of hell on earth and underground.

Ivan Ivanovich A.

Heaven on earth and in heaven

The essence and meaning of human life on earth

The essence of Satan, what Satan really is

Envy

Envy can be defined as resentful greed for another person's appearance or possessions. This sin pushed Cain to kill his brother, because he wanted the mercy God showed to Abel. Proverbs says that “envy causes bones to rot.” But this is not a hint at punishing envious people. In hell, for a life full of envy, sinners are immersed in ice water. And gossips in the underworld will be hanged by their teeth, and then laid out on hot benches.

Description of hell by prophets and apostles

In hell there is despondency, rottenness and worms. And around sinners there is only a black abyss and darkness. “Before I depart, and never return, into the land of darkness and the shadow of death, into the land of darkness, which is the darkness of the shadow of death, where there is no structure, [where] it is dark as darkness itself” (Job 10:21-22 ).

The depressing impression of the description of hell in the Bible remains from the words of the suffering righteous Job:

“Why didn’t I die when I came out of the womb, and why didn’t I die when I came out of the womb? Why did my knees accept me? Why did I have to suck nipples? Now I would lie down and rest; I would sleep, and I would be at peace with the kings and advisers of the earth, who built deserts for themselves, or with the princes who had gold, and who filled their houses with silver; or, like a hidden miscarriage, I would not exist, like babies who have not seen the light.” (Job 3:11-19).

The sinful soul regrets its appearance in this world. The torment of hell underground is so heavy and unbearable for her.

Laziness. Heresy. Suicide

Laziness is a habitual reluctance to exert yourself. This sin differs from others in that it does not require abundance, as with other sins. For lazy people there is a pit filled with snakes in hell.

Heresy

The Seven Deadly Sins are described so that people will remember the traps set by the devil. For this we must say thanks to Pope Gregory I. But besides mortals, there are other sins for which people are punished in hell. One of them is the sin of heresy.

Heretics, of course, include atheists and Pope Anastasius II, who wanted to bridge the gap with the Eastern Church, which separated after the schism. He was ready to accept baptisms performed by the Eastern Church as legal. For such sinners there are flaming tombs prepared in hell.

Suicide

If a person commits suicide, then, according to Dante, he is simply turned into a living thorn bush that feels pain. These bushes are constantly eaten by harpies. When they tear a branch from a thorn tree, blood appears at the break site and drips onto the ground. Therefore, the problems of suicides do not end after death, but only begin with renewed vigor. Suicide is also a great sin.

Reasons for going to Hell

In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds, peace and blessings of Allah be upon our prophet Muhammad, members of his family and all his companions!

And then:

Hell

- this is a monastery in which sinners receive only fair punishment. Not one of God's servants will go there for sins in which he is not involved. Earlier we talked in detail about good deeds that help believers earn a place in the upper reaches of Paradise. Now the time has come to discuss actions that bring the wrath of Allah upon a person and condemn him to painful punishment.

Allah Almighty and His Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, explained to people all the sins and atrocities so that believers would avoid and avoid them in every possible way. However, not all sins have equally destructive consequences. There are also minor sins among them, which no person can avoid, and therefore the All-Merciful Lord forgives them to those who fulfill the mandatory requirements of religion and do not fall into serious sins. The Almighty said about the happy inhabitants of Paradise: “They avoid great sins and abominations, except for small and few offenses”
(an-Najm, 32).
If a person neglects minor sins and commits serious crimes along with them, then he violates the covenant with Allah and will be called to account. Such disobedience is the reason why God's servants end up in Hell. These sins can be divided into two main categories.

To the first

include all kinds of manifestations of unbelief, by committing which a person leaves the bosom of Islam and dooms himself to an eternal stay in Hell.

To the second

The category includes other grave sins, due to which a person does not become an unbeliever, but loses confidence in this life and deserves punishment after death. One who commits such sins is considered a wicked person, and his fate in the Hereafter depends on the decision of Allah. If He wills, this sinner will be forgiven by the grace of God. Otherwise, he will receive a fair reward and will be thrown into Hellfire, but will not remain in it forever and after some time will go to Paradise.

In this lesson we will consider only the first category of grave sins, due to which a person leaves the bosom of Islam and becomes an unbeliever. If a person commits these sins consciously, then Allah Almighty will forgive them only if he manages to repent. If a person dies as an unbeliever without repenting of these sins, then he will suffer forever in the Underworld and will never receive forgiveness. The Almighty said: “Indeed, Allah does not forgive when partners are associated with Him, but He forgives all other (or less serious) sins to whom He wishes”
(an-Nisa, 48).
It follows from this that a person becomes an unbeliever if he deliberately associates partners with Allah or commits sins equal to this in severity. Allah does not forgive these crimes to anyone except those who repent and return to the straight path. Knowing them is extremely important for every person, and therefore we will look at them in more detail.

Associating partners with Allah.

By this is meant the assimilation of creatures to the Lord in all matters relating to dominion, divinity and the possession of perfect qualities.

If a person believes that besides Allah there is someone who is capable of creating and giving inheritance, managing affairs in the universe and deciding the destinies of creations, healing diseases and relieving misfortunes, he associates partners with Allah in regard to His dominion. Allah is the Only Lord of all things, who created the universe along with all its inhabitants. He provides His servants with inheritance and controls everything that happens on earth and in heaven. His power is unlimited and his power is unlimited. The knowledge of this is inherent in the nature of the human soul, and only the most lost deny it.

If a person believes that someone deserves worship and deification along with Allah, if he turns to prayers to any of the creations, if he calls on the servants of God with requests for intercession and intercession before Allah, then he associates partners with Allah in regarding His divinity. Allah Almighty is the only God worthy of worship and deification, and slaves are obliged to worship Him with love and humility, with fear and hope. They are obliged to trust in Him and bow before Him, to love for His sake and to be angry for His sake. Such sincere worship of Allah alone distinguishes Muslims from followers of all other religions, since even pagans recognize Allah as their Lord, but associate partners with Him in worship.

Finally, if a person believes that any of the creations has comprehensive knowledge, unlimited power, perfect greatness or other qualities inherent only in Allah, then he associates partners with Him in terms of divine names and qualities. Almighty Allah has the most beautiful names and divine qualities. He is not like His creations either in divine essence, or in beautiful epithets, or in perfect qualities, and the Koran says about this: “There is no one like Him, and He is the Hearer, the Seeer”
(ash-Shura, 11).
Associating partners with Allah is the worst act a person can commit. By committing this sin, a person likens creations to the Almighty Creator and attributes to them divine qualities that require prayer, fear, hope, hope and other types of worship. Whoever worships creations likens the one who is unable to bring benefit or harm even to himself, to the One to Whom belongs praise, creations and the entire kingdom. All affairs return to Him, and He disposes of good and evil. No one will withhold the mercy He wishes to bestow, and no one will bestow upon one whom He does not wish to bestow.

The characteristic of the divine nature is absolute perfection in all respects. This obliges people to worship only Allah and show the utmost obedience to Him. Reason, Sharia and the innate nature of man are against worshiping anyone else. That is why Allah Almighty does not forgive those who associate partners with Him, despite the fact that His mercy embraces everything in the heavens and on earth. Such sinners fall into great polytheism and deserve eternal punishment in Hell. On this occasion, Allah Almighty said: “Verily, whoever associates partners with Allah, He has forbidden Paradise.
Fire will be his refuge, and the wrongdoers will have no helpers” (al-Maida, 72).
Disbelief in Allah, in His angels, in His scriptures, in His messengers, in the Day of Judgment and in the decree of Allah.

Anyone who denies or doubts any of this is an unbeliever and will remain in Hell forever. Allah Almighty said : “Verily, those who do not believe in Allah and His messengers, want to distinguish between Allah and His messengers and say: “We believe in some and do not believe in others,” and want to find a way between them, are true unbelievers. We have prepared a humiliating torment for the disbelievers."

(an-Nisa, 150-151).
The Almighty also said: “O you who believe! Believe in Allah and His Messenger and the Scripture that He revealed to His Messenger and the Scripture that He revealed before. And whoever did not believe in Allah, His angels, His scriptures, His messengers and the Last Day, he fell into deep error” (al-Ahzab, 64-68).
Denial of any of the five pillars of Islam.

Anyone who believes that recognizing Allah as the One and only God and recognizing Muhammad as His slave and messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, is an infidel. An unbeliever is also one who believes that faith in the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, is not obligatory for all humanity, or denies the obligation of five daily prayers, payment of zakat, fasting in Ramadan or hajj.

Whoever does not recognize as forbidden idolatry and the association of partners with Allah, the killing of innocent people and adultery, sodomy and drinking wine, as well as any other sin that is clearly prohibited by the Qur'an and Sunnah, is also an unbeliever, since he disputes the words of Allah and His Messenger, may he bless Allah welcomes him, and the unanimous opinion of the Muslim community. The only exceptions are those who have recently converted to Islam and deny any of the above due to their ignorance.

Mocking Allah, His religion and His Messenger.

Allah Almighty said: “If you ask them, they will certainly say: “We were just chatting and having fun.”
Say: “Have you mocked Allah, His verses and His Messenger? Do not apologize. You became disbelievers after you believed.” If We forgive some of you, We will certainly torture the rest because they were sinners” (at-Tawbah, 65-66).
It is reported that Abdullah b. Umar said: “ At one of the meetings during the campaign to Tabuk, one of the men said: “I have never seen more gluttonous, more deceitful and more cowardly in battle than these our Koran readers.” One of the people at the meeting [1]

said: “You are not only a liar, but also a hypocrite!
I will definitely inform the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, about everything.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) learned about this and the Quranic revelation was revealed on this matter. Abdullah said: “He looked tied to the girth of the camel of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and his feet were hitting the stones, and he repeated: “We were just chatting and having fun...” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) only said to him: “Have you really mocked Allah, His verses and His Messenger?”
(at-Tawbah, 65).
[2]
From these texts it follows that ridiculing Allah, His Messenger or the Holy Quran is a manifestation of unbelief, dooming the sinner to eternal torment. There are two types of such ridicule.

In the first case

a person openly mocks what has to do with the Islamic religion, as happened with the one who called the reciters of the Koran deceitful, gluttonous and cowardly people. Today you can often hear people mockingly talking about the commandments of Allah or, seeing a follower of the religion, exclaiming: “A true believer has come to us!” Such statements are evidence of unbelief and are considered a mockery of Allah and His signs.

In the second case

a person ridicules what is associated with Islam indirectly, for example, by making signs with his eyes, sticking out his tongue or stretching out his lips when reading the Koran or while preaching about the need to adhere to the commandments of the religion, etc. Such behavior is also considered a manifestation of unbelief and entails eternal punishment in Hell.

Such statements include those who say that Islam is not suitable for the 20th century, that it represents backwardness and reaction, that it is excessively cruel in punishing criminals and infringes on the rights of women, that it is better to be guided by laws drawn up by people now than to be guided by the laws of Allah. These also include insults to those who call to worship Allah alone and abandon the worship of idols and graves. Very often, such believers are called extremists and other names that imply defamation of religion and mockery of correct dogma. Actions of the same kind include ridicule of those who in one way or another follow the Sunnah of the Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, trying to resemble him in their behavior and appearance.

Defamation of Allah Almighty, His religion or His Messenger.

This could be an insult to them, a curse, a curse, etc.

Sheikh-ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyya

said:
“A person who reviles Allah or His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is an unbeliever both in appearance and in soul, regardless of whether he considers it forbidden or not, or did it forgetting his beliefs.
Our scholars noted that a person becomes an unbeliever, regardless of whether he insulted Allah or His Messenger jokingly or seriously. There is no doubt that this is the most correct opinion on this issue. Narrated on the authority of Ishaq b. Rahaweiha, that Muslims unanimously consider as an unbeliever the one who reviled Allah or His Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, or rejected what Allah has revealed, even if he admits it in his soul... The same applies to those who revile the other prophets. A person who reviles any of the prophets whose names are mentioned in the Quran or Hadith, or reviles words or deeds, knowing that any prophet said or acted so, is also an unbeliever.” As for defaming other people, if the one who does this by his words or deeds insults the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, then he is also an unbeliever. An example of this is the vilification of the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), because a person is judged by his environment. This also includes accusing the wives of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, of adultery, which is also a disgrace against the Prophet himself, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. Allah Almighty said : “Bad women are for bad men, and bad men are for bad women, and good women are for good men, and good men are for good women. They are not involved in what the slanderers say. They are destined for forgiveness and a generous lot."

(an-Nur, 26).

Making decisions not in accordance with what Allah has revealed.

Believing that it is closer to the truth or better for people, or that such a decision is equal to the decision of Allah, or that it is permissible to do so. Allah Almighty said: “Those who do not make decisions in accordance with what Allah has revealed are disbelievers.”

(al-Maida, 44).
If a person believes that someone’s decision is better than Allah’s decision or is not inferior to it, or believes that it is permissible to act contrary to Allah’s decision, but makes decisions in accordance with what Allah has revealed, then he is still an unbeliever, since he refutes the words Allah Almighty: “Are they really seeking the judgment of the times of ignorance? Whose decisions can be better than the decisions of Allah for people of conviction? (al-Maida, 50).
But if a person recognizes the laws of Allah and considers them the most correct and fair, but does not make a decision in accordance with them due to cowardice or other circumstances, then he is not an unbeliever, although he commits a grave sin.

External manifestation of adherence to Islam and concealment of disbelief and hostility towards religion.

People with such qualities are called hypocrites because they demonstrate adherence to Islam in some circumstances and reject it in others. Allah Almighty said: “Verily, the hypocrites will be on the lowest level of Fire, and you will not find a helper for them”
(an-Nisa, 145).
This category of people is worse than the previous ones, and therefore they will face a more severe punishment. They will find themselves at the lowest level of Hell, since their actions combine disbelief, deception and mockery of Allah, His verses and His Messenger.

Allah Almighty said: “Among the people there are those who say: “We believe in Allah and the Last Day.”
However, they are unbelievers. They try to deceive Allah and the believers, but they deceive only themselves and do not realize it. Their hearts are stricken with disease. May Allah intensify their illness! They are destined for painful suffering because they lied. When they are told: “Do not spread wickedness on earth!” - they answer: “Only we establish order.” Indeed, it is they who spread mischief, but they are not aware of it. When they are told: “Believe as the people have believed,” they answer: “Shall we really believe as the fools have believed?” Indeed, they are the fools, but they do not know it. When they meet believers, they say: “We believe.” When they are left alone with their devils, they say: “Truly, we are with you. We're just making fun of you." Allah will mock them and increase their iniquity, in which they wander blindly” (al-Baqarah, 8-15).
Hypocrisy has many characteristics.

One of them is

doubting the truth of what Allah has revealed, even if the hypocrite shows himself to believe in it.
Allah Almighty said: “Only those who do not believe in Allah and the Last Day, whose hearts are in doubt, ask you for permission to stay at home.
And because of their doubt, they are confused” (at-Tawbah, 45).

The second sign of hypocrisy

is hostility to the decisions of Allah and His Messenger.
The Almighty said :
“Have you not seen those who claim that they believe in what was revealed to you and in what was revealed before you, but want to go to the Taghut for judgment, although they were ordered not to believe in it? The devil wants to lead them into deep error. When they are told: “Come to what Allah has revealed and to the Messenger,” you see how the hypocrites quickly turn away from you” (an-Nisa, 60-61).

The third sign of hypocrisy

is rejoicing at the humiliation of Islam and its adherents and unwillingness for the triumph of this religion.
The Almighty said: “If a benefit falls to you, it upsets them. If trouble befalls you, they say: “We took precautions for ourselves in advance.” And they leave rejoicing” (at-Tawbah, 50).
Another verse says
:
“You love them, but they don’t love you. And you believe all the Scriptures. When they meet you, they say: “We believe.” When they are left alone, they bite their fingertips out of anger towards you. Say: “Die from your anger! Allah knows what is in the chest." If good things happen to you, it upsets them; if misfortune befalls you, they rejoice. But if you are patient and fearful of God, their wiles will not cause you any harm. Indeed, Allah comprehends everything they do” (Al-Imran, 119-120).

The fourth sign of hypocrisy

is the desire to sow confusion and discord among Muslims.
The Almighty said: “If they set out on a campaign with you, they would not add anything to you except disorder, they would hastily walk among you and sow confusion among you.
There will be those among you who will listen to them. Allah knows the wrongdoers” (at-Tawbah, 47).

The fifth sign of hypocrisy

is love for the enemies of Islam and the leaders of unbelief, praise of them and the spread of their vicious views that are contrary to the Islamic religion.
The Almighty said: “Have you not seen those who are friends with people with whom Allah is angry?
They are neither about you nor them. They knowingly make false oaths” (al-Mujadila, 14).

The sixth sign of hypocrisy

is ridicule and censure of believers for the rituals they perform.
Allah Almighty said: “They blaspheme those who give voluntary donations and those who find it difficult to find funds for donations. They mock them, and Allah mocks them. They are destined for painful suffering" (at-Tawbah, 79).
The seventh sign of hypocrisy

is the reluctance of believers to pray for them, since hypocrites consider such prayers to be insignificant and doubt their benefits.
The Almighty said: “When they are told: “Come so that the Messenger of Allah will ask forgiveness for you,” they shake their heads, and you see how they turn away arrogantly

(al-Munafiqun, 5).
The eighth sign of hypocrisy

is unwillingness to perform namaz.
Allah Almighty said: “Verily, the hypocrites try to deceive Allah, but it is He who deceives them. When they get up for prayer, they get up reluctantly, showing themselves to people and remembering Allah only a little” (an-Nisa, 142).
It is reported from the words of Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “The most difficult prayers for hypocrites are the evening and dawn prayers, but if they knew what is in them, they would even appear at them crawling.” . [3]

The ninth sign of hypocrisy is causing offense to Allah and His Messenger. Allah Almighty said:
Among them there are those who offend the Prophet and say: “He is an ear (listens to any news).” Say: “He only listens to what is best for you. He believes in Allah and trusts the believers. He is a mercy for those who believe." Those who offend the Messenger of Allah are destined for painful suffering” (at-Tawbah, 61).
He also said:
“Verily, those who offend Allah and His Messenger, Allah has cursed them in the Hereafter and in the Hereafter and has prepared for them humiliating torments. And those who undeservedly offend believing men and believing women shoulder the burden of slander and obvious sin” (al-Ahzab, 57-58).
The tenth sign of hypocrisy is people's false promises to do righteousness if Allah shows them mercy and gives them wealth. The Koran says about this: “Among them there are those who promised Allah: “If He bestows on us from His bounty, then we will certainly begin to give alms and will be one of the righteous.”
When He bestowed upon them some of His bounty, they began to be stingy and turned away in disgust. He punished them by instilling hypocrisy in their hearts until the day they meet Him, because they broke their promise to Allah and because they lied” (at-Tawbah, 75-77).
Another sign of hypocrisy is looking for opportunities to find fault with believers and blaming them for righteous deeds. The Almighty said: “They blaspheme those who give voluntary donations and those who find it difficult to find the means to donate.
They mock them, and Allah mocks them. They are destined for painful suffering" (at-Tawbah, 79).
It is reported that Abu Masud

said:
“After the revelation of the verse about donations
[4], we hired ourselves to work as porters, and then a man
[5]
and distributed a lot of donations.
Some people began to say, “He is showing himself in front of people.” Then another person came and distributed only one saa, and they began to say: “Allah does not need this saa.” And then the verse was revealed: “They blaspheme those who give voluntary donations and those who find it difficult to find the means to donate”
(at-Tawbah, 79).
[6]
These are just some of the symptoms of this dangerous disease that destroys the soul and brings upon it eternal damnation. Believers are obliged to cleanse their souls of these evil qualities and beware of hypocrites who possess them, because they can do them much more harm than other unbelievers.

The Almighty said: “O you who believe!
Do not take as your assistants those who are not among you. They never miss an opportunity to harm you and rejoice in your difficulties. Hatred has already appeared on their lips, but in their hearts lies even greater hatred. We have already explained the signs to you, if you understand!” (Al Imran, 118).
This revelation applies to all unbelievers, including hypocrites who never miss an opportunity to harm Muslims. Their words and reservations testify to their fierce hatred towards believers, and the hatred and malice they harbor in their hearts is even more bitter.

It is reported from Ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “What I fear most is that my followers will be harmed by all sorts of hypocrites who know how to speak skillfully.” [7]

Some manifestations of hypocrisy may also appear among true believers, but they do not allow these qualities to take root in their souls and immediately turn to Allah with repentance. There may be thoughts in their hearts that push them towards hypocrisy, and this makes them depressed and sad, but they resist such thoughts and seek help from their Lord. Not a single believer is protected from such instigations, and therefore the All-Merciful Allah forgives people for them.

Abu Hurayrah reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Indeed, Allah has forgiven my followers what the devil instills in them and what their souls instill in them, unless they do it or say it.” about it". [8]

Another hadith reports that Abu Hurayra said: “Once several companions came to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and said: “We discover such things in our souls that we are afraid to even talk about it!” He asked, “Are you discovering this yet?” They answered: “Yes.” Then he said: “This is real faith!” [9]

Thus, we have listed the main categories of grave sins, which are manifestations of great unbelief and forever plunge a person into Hell. However, not everyone who commits such sins is an unbeliever deserving of eternal torment in the Underworld. A person becomes an unbeliever if he deliberately commits these sins, knowing that they lead the sinner out of Islam.

If a person did not know that what he committed was atheism, then he does not become an unbeliever. The Almighty said: “We never punished people without sending a messenger to them”
(al-Isra, 15).
This means that Allah will not punish His slaves for disobedience if they have not received clear knowledge about it.

Another verse says: “And whoever resists the Messenger after the straight path has become clear to him, and follows not the path of the believers, We will send him to the place where he turned and burn him in Gehenna.
How bad is this place of arrival!” (an-Nisa, 115)
. Therefore, one who was in error before the straight path became clear to him may not be among the martyrs of Hell.

The Almighty also said: “Allah does not mislead people to whom He has shown the straight path until He explains to them what they should fear”
(at-Tawbah, 115);
“If We had destroyed them from punishment before this (the coming of Muhammad and the sending down of the Koran), then they would have said: “Our Lord! Why didn’t You send a messenger to us so that we could follow Your signs before we were humiliated and disgraced?” (Ta ha, 134);
“Every time a crowd is thrown there, its guards will ask them: “Did not a warner come to you?”
They will say: “Of course, the warning warner came to us, but we considered him a liar and said: “Allah has not sent down anything, and you are only in great error” (al-Mulk, 8-9);
“We sent messengers who brought good news and warned, so that after the coming of the messengers the people would not have any argument against Allah”
(an-Nisa, 165).

It is reported from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “I swear by Him in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, whoever, having heard about me, dies and does not believe in what I was sent with, be he from this community, whether Jew or Christian, will certainly be among the inhabitants of the Fire.” [10]

It follows from this that if a Christian or Jew has not heard about the mission of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, then he may not be among the inhabitants of the Fire.

Sheikh Muhammad b. Salih

said: “
Someone may ask: “If a person committed disbelief and claims that he did not know about it, is this excuse accepted?”
The answer to this question requires clarification. If this person lives in a remote area where there is no one to teach him, then this excuse is accepted from him. If he lives among people who have knowledge about this, then the excuse of ignorance is not accepted. If a person has recently accepted Islam and lives among pagans who worship idols and trees, drink wine and commit adultery, and after accepting Islam he believes that wine is permissible, then we can justify this by his ignorance. If this is stated by someone who lives among Muslims, then such a justification is not acceptable, for it clearly contradicts what is obvious .”

Sheikh-ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyya

said about some ignorant Muslims who associate their companions with Allah:
“But due to the fact that ignorance has spread among subsequent generations, and knowledge of the message has decreased, they cannot be accused of disbelief for this
[11] until the difference between the two is clear to them. , what the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) brought, and what contradicts it
." [12]
In another of his works, Sheikh-ul-Islam said: "The accusation of unbelief may vary depending on the state of a particular person, for not everyone one who has made a mistake, is a heretic, is ignorant, or is lost is an unbeliever, a wicked person, or even just a sinner.”

.[13]

Another condition that must be met for a person to become an unbeliever is intention. The one who commits disbelief does not become an unbeliever if he did not intend to do so. Anyone who intended to commit an act that destroys faith becomes an unbeliever and atheist, regardless of the form in which it was expressed. It is important that he did this deliberately.

It is possible to commit disbelief unintentionally in several cases.

Firstly,

if a person does this in a state of intense anger, when his mind is dulled. The one who uttered words of disbelief in such a state does not become an unbeliever, since he did it unintentionally.

Secondly,

when he rejoices with joy and utters words of disbelief without realizing what he is saying. At such moments a person may say or do something that would otherwise be disbelief, but he does not intend to do so and does not become an unbeliever.

Third,

he can commit disbelief against his will, and in this case he also does not become an unbeliever, as evidenced by the statement of the Almighty
:
“The wrath of Allah will fall on those who renounce Allah after believing, not on those who were forced to this, while in his heart rested firm faith, and on those who themselves opened their chests to unbelief. Great torment is in store for them” (an-Nakhl, 106).

Abu Dharr reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Indeed, Allah has forgiven my community for what Muslims do by mistake, through forgetfulness, and what they are forced to do.” [14]

If a person commits disbelief intentionally, mocking religion or exalting himself before Allah and His Messenger, then he becomes an unbeliever. In this case, all his good deeds become futile and useless, and in order to return to the straight path, he is obliged to repent and embrace Islam again. The Almighty said: “If you begin to associate partners, then your deeds will be in vain, and you will certainly be one of the losers”
(al-Zumar, 65).
That is why believers must beware of such sins and know them, and only the Almighty Lord can help in this.
