Prayer

O Most Merciful Lady! We now resort to Your intercession, do not despise our prayers, but quickly heal our obsessive brothers and sisters from the serious illness of drunkenness, and for this sake from our mother, the Church of Christ, and from our salvation knowledge of those who fall away. O All-Merciful Mother of God, touch their hearts and quickly raise them from the falls of sin, heal them and bring them to saving abstinence. Pray to Your Son, Christ our God, that He may forgive us our sins and not turn His mercy away from His people, but may He strengthen them in sobriety and chastity. Accept, Most Holy Theotokos, the prayers of parents who shed tears for their children; wives weeping for their husbands; children, the orphan and the wretched, those left astray, and all of us who fall before Your icon - and may this cry of ours come through Your prayers to the Throne of the Most High. Cover and keep us from the evil trap and all the snares of the enemy, and in the terrible hour of the exodus of our help, pass through the airy ordeal without stumbling, and through Your prayers deliver eternal condemnation, May God's mercy cover us forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer to the Most Holy Theotokos in front of the “Inexhaustible Chalice” icon: words of prayer

The words of this prayer have enormous power, however, it is important to remember that not everything depends solely on the spoken words and the help of the Most Holy Theotokos is not felt immediately after the prayer is said. It is important to understand that recovery and recovery from addictions require time and patience, both for those who are “sick” with these habits and for those who pray for their health. For the words of prayer to help, it is important to believe in their power, not give up and wait.

Prayer of the Most Holy Theotokos before the “Inexhaustible Chalice” icon: what does it help with?

As mentioned earlier, the icon “Inexhaustible Chalice” depicts the Most Holy Theotokos with the Child of God, who stands on the Chalice. This Cup is considered a source of health, strength, joy and all other benefits.

  • It is generally accepted that the words of this prayer can heal and save a person from many destructive vices. For example, from a problem that destroys family, life, health, etc.
  • Prayer can also heal a person from illnesses such as drunkenness, drug addiction and cigarette addiction.
  • Moreover, the words of prayer have a positive impact on a person’s life, his worldview, they guide him on the righteous path.

Prayer is valid in the following cases:

  • If a person suffering from alcoholism does not recognize his problem and does not want to be treated. Then his family can pray for him, for his health and healing.
  • When a person realizes that he is “sick” and wants to be healed. In this case, he can say the prayer himself or his relatives can pray for him.
  • Prayer can be an auxiliary action in the main treatment in the hospital. In this case, the words of prayer strengthen a person’s faith in his recovery and give him strength.

Prayer to an icon has enormous power.
Also quite often the question arises: “Who exactly can ask for help from the Most Holy Theotokos by saying the words of this prayer?” The answer to the question is quite simple:

  • It doesn’t matter at all whether the “patient” himself prays for his recovery or whether someone else does it for him. What is more important is the message with which the words are spoken. If a praying person sincerely believes in the power of prayer, it will definitely help. Intentions must be sincere and pure.
  • That is, a person suffering from alcoholism, etc., can pray for himself or his relatives, for example, children, parents, godparents, etc., can pray for him.

Prayer to the Most Holy Theotokos in front of the “Inexhaustible Chalice” icon against drunkenness: history

Before we talk about the power of this prayer, let’s devote a little time to the history of its appearance and the “Inexhaustible Chalice” icon itself.

  • This icon depicts the Mother of God together with the Child of God. Both he and she raise their hands up, while the Infant God stands on the Chalice. It is this Chalice that is spoken of in the prayer.
  • It is generally accepted that the “Inexhaustible Chalice” is a source of health, joy and strength.

The Icon
of the Mother of God “The Inexhaustible Chalice” appeared before humanity in a very interesting way, the following story tells about it:

  • Once upon a time, around 1878, a rather strange incident occurred in the Tula province. There lived there at that time an elderly man, a respected soldier in his youth. At that time, the man was tormented by a passion for alcohol. Despite his age, the man drank all his money and savings, took out everything that was in the house, just to please himself with another bottle.
  • As a result, his legs gave out and he became weak, but he never gave up the habit. One restless night, a man had a dream in which a monk addressed him. The schema-monk told the pensioner to go to the city of Serpukhov, to the monastery of the Lady Theotokos and serve a prayer service in front of the “Inexhaustible Chalice” icon. This, according to the monk, was supposed to restore strength and health to an already completely weak person.
  • Based on his condition, the pensioner refused to even think about any trip, and he didn’t have the money for it. However, the elder came into his dreams again and again and in a more menacing voice ordered him to make the trip. Then the sick elderly man firmly decided to go to that monastery and literally crawled to him on all fours.

Inexhaustible Chalice

  • In one of the villages he was crawling through, he asked for help. The old woman responded to this request, who, out of pity, rubbed the old man’s feet and laid him to rest on the stove. He stayed with the old woman for 2 days and during this time his condition improved significantly, his legs began to move, and the retired soldier set off on the road again.
  • Arriving at the monastery, he spoke about his dreams and asked to serve a prayer service in front of the “Inexhaustible Chalice” icon. However, with such a request the man surprised the monastery servants, because they did not understand what kind of icon he was talking about. And only after some time did someone in the monastery suggest that this icon could be the one that hangs on the passage to the room in which various church utensils are stored. When the monks took the supposed icon in their hands and looked at its reverse side, they were surprised, because it said “Inexhaustible Chalice.” This is how the icon appeared before people.
  • Returning from a trip, the previously drinking man was completely healed in both soul and body. It was after this incident that the icon gained its recognition and, so to speak, popularity.
  • A huge number of people who suffered from alcohol, the relatives of such people began to come to the monastery to venerate the icon and ask for its help or thank it for it.
  • Further, the fate of the icon developed differently, it was moved, restored, etc. But people still worship it and pray in front of it for the health of those who suffer from addictions.
