The history of the icon “The Tsaritsa”
The miraculous icon, which in Greek is called “Pantanassa”, and in Russian “Vsetsaritsa”, was painted in the 17th century. She was the blessing of one of the Athonite elders, Joseph the Hesychast, to his disciples. The icon was for a long time in the schemata, where Joseph’s brethren lived, but then it was transferred to the Vatopedi monastery. To this day it is located on Holy Mount Athos.
In the Athos Monastery - this stronghold of Orthodoxy - not only hopes for the healing of cancer patients are concentrated, but also the hopes of all humanity. After all, the monks of the Athos Monastery pray day and night for the salvation of our world.
For the first time, this icon showed miracles in the temple in this way: a certain young man approached it and wanted to touch the face of the Mother of God, but it suddenly lit up with a bright light, and an unknown force threw the young man to the ground. He jumped up and, in fear, told the approaching monks that he had been practicing witchcraft, and wanted to test his magic on the icon. But Pantanassa did not allow the sacrilege to happen. And the young man left his occupation, realizing that he was sick, enslaved by sin, and also that the power of God was much stronger than his devilish occupation.
Since then, this image began to perform miracles of healing, including those of the hopelessly ill.
In Russia there is a copy of this icon, which was brought from Mount Athos in 1995 and placed in the children's oncology center on Kashirskoye Highway. Many miraculous healings occurred thanks to the intercession of the Mother of God.
In the icon, Mary is depicted sitting on a throne in a red robe, holding the Divine Infant in her arms with a scroll in her left hand and a blessing with her right hand. The throne symbolizes the entire universe; with his right hand Pantanassa points to his Son as the savior of all mankind. Behind the throne are two angels, who overshadow the Mother and the baby with their wings and look at them with reverence.

In Moscow, you can venerate the image of the Most Holy Theotokos “Vsetsaritsa” in the Alekseevsky Monastery.
