Prayer is not only a way to lull a baby to sleep, but also to cleanse his innocent soul from the influence of evil forces, which very often cause trouble for chaste babies.

You should not hope for an instant miracle, because when reading a prayer for a sleepless baby, you must follow some rules:

  • first of all, the child must be baptized;
  • parents themselves must keep the biblical commandments and not sin;
  • believe in prayer;
  • read the text of the prayer for a sleepless child calmly and slowly, thinking about every word;
  • For greater effect, wash your child with holy water at night.

  • If your baby is acting too excited, give him holy water to drink. A few sips of Epiphany water can do a miracle - they remove the evil eye, fear or other negative factor.

Prayer for health to Panteleimon the Healer

On Trinity Sunday you can pray to Saint Panteleimon the Healer for the gift of health. During his lifetime, this Saint was engaged in healing and believed in the power of Christian prayer. He never refused help and support to those suffering, and did not charge any payment for his services.

The Orthodox Church considers Saint Panteleimon the Healer the patron saint of all people suffering from illnesses. Therefore, people always pray to him in difficult moments of their lives, when serious health problems arise. The prayer offered to this Saint helps to properly tune in before the operation. The image of Panteleimon the Healer must be located near the bed of a sick person.

The sacred text that will allow you to get rid of ailments and significantly improve your well-being is as follows:

“Oh, great saint of Christ, Saint Panteleimon the Healer, the Many-Merciful healer. Have mercy on the Servant of God (the name of the sick person), hear my prayer and my spiritual cry. Beg the Lord God for forgiveness of the sins of a person close to me. Ask for him from the Throne of the Lord to grant him healing. Help, Saint Panteleimon, fight the Servant of God (the name of the sick person) with this terrible illness, give him hope for a long, happy life. And for your mercy, all my life I will glorify your deeds and the Lord for His mercy. Amen".

Prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary for a newborn baby

Every mother dreams of her child growing up healthy and strong. Prayer to the Most Holy Theotokos can help with this. The Mother of God always hears the maternal prayer. Trinity prayers said for a newborn baby are considered especially powerful.

A mother’s prayer on the Great Holiday for the health of her newborn child, addressed to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, allows you to create reliable protection around the baby. This means that external negativity will not be able to harm him and he will definitely develop correctly and have good health. In addition, such a prayer appeal can protect the baby from all possible problems in life, which means that he will be destined for a smooth life path and a happy fate.

Prayer to the Most Holy Theotokos is also different in that it gives the mother peace of mind and confidence that she can raise her child in the fear of God, guide him on the true path and protect him from the influence of devilish forces.

The prayer goes like this:

“Oh, Most Holy Lady Virgin Mary, Most Holy Theotokos, hear the maternal prayer of the servant of God (proper name). I ask you to save and preserve my child, the servant of God (baby’s name), under your roof; cover him with your robe of your holy motherhood. Protect him from everything bad and help me raise my child in the fear of God and obedience to parents. Keep sincere faith in his soul throughout his life and awaken in his soul gratitude for all the mercies of the Almighty, the Great Lover of mankind, your Son. I entrust my child to your maternal care and believe in your support. Amen".

Why do they pray to the Seven Youths if the child does not sleep well?

The Ephesian youths are considered sleep healers. Prayers dedicated to them are read if the child sleeps poorly and restlessly. Maternal prayer addressed to the Ephesian martyrs strengthens the baby on a spiritual and emotional level and drives away negative energy.

Praying every day for their child, parents call on the martyrs to descend upon their child, calm him down, and improve his sleep. You need to turn to the saints with all your heart, because attentive heartfelt prayer works miracles. The baby becomes calm and gets rid of fears.

Saints are revered not only in the Orthodox Church, but also in the Muslim Church.

Date and rules of service

It is interesting that this story has become known and is often remembered not only in Christianity, but also in Islam. Prayers are offered to the seven martyrs on August 4 and November 22 according to the Julian calendar. Usually prayers are read on memorial days. The prayers are very powerful. They are usually read by mothers so that children who have trouble falling asleep will finally calm down and fall asleep. It is believed that the spiritual protection of children is quite weak, so they are easily susceptible to negative intrusions. Children may cry all night and suffer from insomnia. If this happens, mothers read a prayer at the head of the babies. The prayer must be read with soul, understanding and accepting every word. You need to pray every evening. It is important to feel all the words from the heart. Then the prayer will become several times stronger also because it is uttered through the lips of the mother.

Texts of prayers for a child for a restful sleep

Prayer to the Guardian Angel

You can make a request to the Guardian Angel, which is given to a person at birth and accompanies him until his last days. An adult usually independently turns to him with his requests. Parents pray for their child to sleep peacefully at night. The words of the mother for the sake of the newborn are especially effective, since she has the strongest connection with the baby.

Such a small maternal prayer to the Guardian Angel will become a strong amulet and will bring sound sleep and peace.

Prayer to Saint Matrona

Matrona of Moscow is often approached by women who have found the happiness of motherhood, but the condition of the baby causes concern, especially his intermittent sleep. To ensure a quick fall asleep and peace on time, to save the child from whims and fears, it is useful to say the words of the prayer for the baby to sleep in front of the icon of St. Matrona.

Prayer to the Holy Youths of Ephesus

A prayer to the holy youths of Ephesus, who for the Christian faith were walled up alive in a cave and doomed to a slow death, can be effective. But instead, by the will of God, they were plunged into deep sleep and slept like that for about 200 years. Their miraculous awakening contributed to the strengthening of the Christian faith.

Prayer to Jesus Christ

The Lord always takes care of us and does not leave those in need without his support, no matter what sorrows they face. Reading an Orthodox prayer for children before bed with an appeal to the Lord will be the best way to tame a child’s anxiety and give him the opportunity to plunge into a deep, sweet sleep, devoid of negative visions.

We advise you to study Prayer to the Guardian Angel for each day of the week

Other texts for a good night's sleep

Saints and righteous people are always ready to help if a baby sleeps restlessly and torments himself and his loved ones. Prayer texts offer to enlist the support of the Higher Powers, while at the same time beginning to accustom the child to the true faith. When the baby begins to read his own prayers at night, he is guaranteed a good sleep with colorful and innocent dreams.

Childhood insomnia can have several causes. Each of them is removed with a specific prayer:

  • for a sleepless newborn, turning to Jesus Christ is suitable;
  • in order to receive God's blessing and get ready for a good night's rest, they call on the Mother of God and the Lord;
  • A prayer to the Creator will help cleanse the soul from evil and protect a small child from misfortunes in a dream;
  • bestows balance, tranquility, and protects against any intrigues by turning to the Guardian Angel.

They read every sacred text with complete dedication. The words of appeal to God and His companions in faith should not come from despair, but from sincere deep love for the Creator and one’s own child. Thus, righteous parents grant their descendants the protection and favor of the Higher Powers, their hope, mercy and blessing.

Appeal to the Son of God

Jesus Christ has the strongest love for the defenseless and weak. In children, according to Scripture, he saw the Kingdom of God. That’s why they turn to him when a child is unable to sleep peacefully at night or during the day. They read an Orthodox prayer over the baby’s cradle:

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, prayers for the sake of Your Most Pure Mother, by the Power of the Honest and Life-giving Cross, and the Holy Guardian Angel of my child, and for all the saints who care for us, have mercy and save me and my child, for He is Good and Lover of Mankind. Amen.

A mother can pronounce these words not only over her own children. It also applies to godchildren or adopted children. The children's prayer ends with the blessing of the cross on the baby so that he sleeps well and peacefully.

Appeals to the Mother of God and Creator

The Mother of God, like every parent, takes care of the children and takes them under her care. Calling on her for help when a child is not sleeping well will bring relief to the whole family. Additionally, the child’s daily rhythm will improve, whims and nervous reactions to the world will disappear. The prayer is read in a low voice:

Prayers for your baby to sleep well at night

Every person has a guardian angel. If the baby has problems, then they turn to his guardian angel. God is alone and cannot always help, but a guardian angel is assigned to a person and will come to the rescue in any life situations.

A prayer text through the mouth of a child has great power:

If children experience health problems, they should immediately contact Matrona of Moscow. A piece of incense sewn into clothes helps against the evil eye and damage and must be changed regularly, as well as a prayer appeal to Mother Matrona:

When the baby changes day to night, sleeps during the day and plays at night, they turn to the Lord and the Mother of God. The prayer of the Mother of God gives peace of mind and removes the negative impact on children. Read the prayer three times before going to bed. If the child is very nervous and often wakes up at night, then you can give him a drink or sprinkle him with holy water.

Be sure to ask forgiveness for your sins before reading the text. Mother and child are connected spiritually. If the mother sinned, then the child suffers.

Rules for reading prayers for a child

Toddlers often have problems falling asleep. Newborns suffer from colic, and older children face fears and critical periods of growing up. Emotional satiety and fear also become causes of sleep disorders at any age.

Prayerful words from the lips of parents can calm the baby and help set the mood for rest. To get the desired results, adults need to remember a few key points.

  1. A baptized child will receive protection from above faster and better. The Lord will send a Guardian Angel and the Holy Spirit to protect the child from harm during sleep and the whole day after. Unbaptized children take longer to receive blessings.
  2. The righteousness and piety of the parents will be a plus. Prayers from the lips of sincerely believing people who keep God’s commandments are pleasing to the heart of the Creator. He would rather come to the aid of his faithful followers.
  3. The text of the appeal to the saints is learned by heart. This way, its pronunciation will come from the heart, and the words themselves will become conscious. It should be read in a calm tone, without worry, sincerely believing and wanting what is asked for.
  4. Before turning to prayer, it is important for parents and older children to repent and ask for forgiveness for their sins. This will cleanse the soul of filth and make the requests louder to the ears of the Lord. It will be easier for those sent to help the Angel and Spirit to protect the faithful of the Almighty.
  5. The mother's voice is one of the factors for the baby to sleep well and peacefully throughout the night. Therefore, sacred texts are read quietly, affectionately, and with goodwill.

The most nervous children are washed with Epiphany water or given a couple of sips to drink. They also sprinkle the baby’s crib, things and toys.

The same rules apply if parents ask for help in their own words. Prayer coming from the heart is dear to the Lord in its sincerity and desire to rely on His will. As a reward, he will cover not only the child, but his entire family with protection, and will give him a sound and sweet sleep.

The benefits and necessity of prayer before bed

  • Praying before bed can calm a tomboy. The mother’s gentle, kind voice gives the child a feeling of security. And the Heavenly Father, sending his grace to those who pray, will give the Guardian Angel instructions to protect the child’s sleep.
  • In addition, learning prayers from infancy allows children to grow up in piety and respect for their parents, who showed the way to Christ and the Holy Heavenly Patron.
  • A child, in whose life God is present from the very beginning, understands the seriousness of faith in his life, learns in time to separate good and evil, and grows up courteous to his parents and the Almighty.
  • For people who have accepted Christ into their hearts and know how to ask for forgiveness in prayer for voluntary or involuntary sins, the Creator opens all happy roads, protecting them from trouble.

Heavenly patrons of children. Which Saint in what cases should a mother pray for her children?

Depending on the situation, you can pray for children by turning to their heavenly patrons. Women often resort to the image of the Most Holy Theotokos for help. In this case, the age of the child does not matter. They also turn to John the Baptist, because there is a very strong prayer of a mother for children, and he does not remain indifferent.

This Saint is well known to everyone from biblical history and many believers treat him with great respect. He is the last of the prophets who foretold the coming of Jesus. Many people came to him to repent and take the path of truth. This man brought light to this world and to everyone who came to him for consolation.

With any ailment of the children, the mother can turn with prayer to the Great Martyr Artemy and the Holy Martyr Uar. They are responsible for small children and are ready to protect them. One of the most famous healers is the Great Martyr Panteleimon. You can also ask him for the health of children in prayer.

If a child lacks talent and cannot realize himself creatively, a mother’s prayer to St. Barbara will help. She is favorable to children and will give them various talents and protect them from harm.

If the children have already grown up and entered adulthood, the mother should still pray for them. Especially when looking for a job. In this case, you can ask for help from Spiridon of Triumph, or St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. And a prayer request to Mitrofan of Voronezh will help to improve your life. Demetrius of Rostov is the patron of orphans and the poor, so a mother, in prayer for her children, can ask him for a life without poverty and poverty. He will definitely help.

Most mothers dream that their children will always be obedient and do what is right with all justice. In matters of education, you can trust the martyr Sophia and turn to her in prayer; she will definitely take care of this.

If the baby has recently been born and his sleep pattern has been disturbed, then it is best for the mother to read prayers at the head of the bed. These prayers are addressed to the Holy Seven Youths of Ephesus.

The most effective maternal prayer for a child is the one addressed to the heavenly patron after whom the child himself is named at the time of baptism or at the time of birth. In this case, it is necessary to read a prayer in front of his icon at home or in church.

If the child is on the road, then the mother can calmly ask St. Nicholas the Wonderworker for protection in prayer, since he patronizes travelers and those on the road. He can help not only in this situation, but also under completely different circumstances. The main condition is to ask with faith, humility and confidence that he will come to the rescue.

Women often turn to the Mother of God with prayers. The reasons for such appeals are very different: illness, ill-mannered children, poor results in education or connections with bad people. At one time, the Mother of God had to go through a long journey of trials and maintain her faith in God. Therefore, hearing prayers and requests from mothers who are in a hopeless situation, who are upset and exhausted, she hurries to lend a helping hand.

The most important thing is to understand that help comes not from the Saints themselves, but from God, from our Heavenly Father. The saints, being close to Him, intercede directly about our problems and needs

But this does not mean at all that you need to pray only to the Saints. God is always ready for dialogue with us, he waits for us with an outstretched hand and an open heart. Therefore, mothers in their prayers for their children should not forget to contact Heavenly Father directly, without intermediaries.

But also Thy glorious seven youths, confessors and witnesses of Thy appearance, showed, in the days of Decius the king and apostate: and this one slept in the den for many years, like infants warmed in the womb of their mother, and never having suffered corruption, to the praise and glory of Thy love for mankind , and as an indication and notification of our rebirth and resurrection of all. Powerful Prayer to the Seven Youths of Ephesus

One of the most powerful prayers that helps a restless child fall asleep is the prayer to the seven youths of Ephesus for a sleepless baby.

The background to this prayer is as follows: in the city of Ephesus in the 3rd century there lived seven young men who professed the faith of Christ. They were in the service of the pagan emperor.

When he arrived in the city where the youths served, he demanded that the soldiers make sacrifices to the old gods, which the Christian youths refused to do, since it was contrary to the faith of Christ.

The emperor did not forgive them for their disobedience, and, hiding from his reprisal, the young men first hid in one of the caves, where they offered prayers to their Lord, and then decided not to resist fate and came to trial themselves.

The emperor ordered them to be walled up in this very cave, but the youths, according to legend, did not die in it, but only fell asleep. Two hundred years later they came out into the world and told about the miracle of the resurrection from the dead.

Oh, most wonderful holy seventh generation, praise to the city of Ephesus and the hope of the whole universe! Look from the heights of heavenly glory at us, who honor your memory with love, especially at the Christian infants, entrusted to your intercession by their parents: bring down upon her the blessing of Christ God, saying: leave the children to come to Me: heal the sick in them, comfort the sorrowful; Keep their hearts pure, fill them with meekness, and in the soil of their hearts plant and strengthen the seed of the confession of God, so that they may grow to the best of their ability; and all of us, who stand before your holy icon, kissing your relics with faith and praying warmly to you, vouchsafe to enhance the Kingdom of Heaven and glorify there with silent voices of joy the magnificent name of the Most Holy Trinity, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen.

Cover them with the robe of Your motherhood, keep them in the fear of God and in obedience to their parents, pray to my Lord and Your Son to grant them what is useful for their salvation.

I entrust them to Your maternal supervision, for You are the Divine Protection of Your servants.

Appeal to the Seven Youths of Ephesus - peace and care for your child’s sleep

If a child suffers from a sleep disorder, and the mother, having tried all means, does not know what to do and where to look for help, use the power of the holy word of prayer, as recommended by the holy fathers of the Orthodox Church. In popular rumor, the Seven Youths from Ephesus are also credited with the miracle of returning lost sleep to the foolish child and to every servant of God.

  • First, the “Our Father” is read three times, as an obligatory canonical prayer.
  • Next they cry out to the Seven Youths of Ephesus for the granting of rest for the sleepless child.
  • The prayer is read exclusively at night.
  • When the baby falls asleep, cross his forehead with your fingers to give your parental blessing.
  • At the head of the crib, keep an icon dedicated to the seven young men from Ephesus. Its action will be similar to the prayer to these saints - it will take care of the child’s peace of mind and protect them in dreams from demonic invasion.

History of origin

The Seven Youths of Ephesus are known not only in the Christian religion. They are widely known in Islam. There is a legend that they were walled up alive in a cave, but did not die, but fell asleep. And they slept there for several hundred years. The seven martyrs bore the names: Maximilian, Jamblichus, Martinian, John, Dionysius, Exacustodian and Antoninus. The martyrs lived in the third century AD. According to legend, one of them, Maximilian, was the only son of the ruler of the city of Ephesus. Six of his associates also came from worthy families of the city. They were all friends since childhood. In addition, young people were united by the Christian religion.

One day the youngest of the friends was getting ready to go to the city to buy bread. He changed his clothes, exchanged his usual clothes for rags and hit the road. He came to the city and heard that local authorities had been looking for all of them for a long time to bring them to justice. Seven young men came out of their hiding place and voluntarily surrendered to the local authorities. The punishment was severe: to wall them up in the very cave where they were hiding. Their punishment was to die of hunger and thirst. But by the will of God, the young people did not die, but fell asleep, and slept for two hundred years exactly until the owner of the land on which the cave was located discovered it and opened the entrance. Then the Lord woke up the young people, they woke up and went out into the world, but they did not know that they had slept for two hundred years. Since then, those places have become holy, and the rumor about the miraculous youths has spread throughout the world.

Prayer to the Youths of Ephesus

A prayerful appeal to the seven youths of Ephesus works wonders. In the city of Ephesus lived seven young men Maximilian, Jamblichus, Martinian, John, Dionysius, Constantine and Antoninus, who were in military service, but secretly professed Christianity. When Emperor Decius arrived in the city, he ordered everyone to make a sacrifice to the pagan gods; seven young men refused, which aroused the emperor’s anger. The head of state took pity on the young men in the hope that they would improve. However, the youths hid in a cave and began to pray. Upon his return, the emperor ordered the entrance to the cave to be walled up.

The owner of the land where the cave was located decided to dismantle the entrance and found youths there who were alive. The young men fell asleep for two hundred years, and when they woke up, Christianity had become a generally recognized religion. They managed to tell people about their persecution of them and again fell asleep in a deadly sleep. They wanted to bury them in separate tombs, but they came to the emperor in a dream and asked not to do this, but to leave them in a cave. Day of Remembrance of the Seven Youths October 22.

In Russia, seven young men are considered sleep healers, and prayer for a child to sleep well at night and not cry is the most effective.

First, the “Our Father” is read, and then the text to the seven youths. When the child falls asleep, cross and bless him.

Prayer to the Monk Maruf, Bishop of Mesopotamia, also helps with insomnia. Children are relieved of anxiety during sleep by reading Psalms 13 and 90, and for “sleepwalkers” - 108.

History and significance

The Seven Youths of Ephesus are known not only in Christianity. They are revered even by adherents of Islam. According to legend, they were walled up alive in a cave, after which they slept there for several centuries. The seven martyrs were named Maximilian, Jamblichus, Martinian, John, Dionysius, Exacustodian and Antoninus. They all lived in the 3rd century.

It is believed that Saint Maximilian was the son of the Ephesian mayor, and the other six young men also came from worthy families. They all knew each other since childhood, as they were united by strong friendship. In addition, they performed military service together and were all Christians.

According to legend, one day Emperor Decius arrived in the city of Ephesus. He immediately demanded that people make sacrifices to the pagan gods. A terrible fate awaited the disobedient (torture, and then the death penalty). Seven young men also appeared before the emperor. However, they did not want to betray their faith. Then the bishop ordered them to be stripped of their military distinctions and released. He believed that the young men would come to their senses and change their minds. The seven martyrs left the city and took refuge on Mount Ohlon in a cave. All this time they prayed passionately and prepared themselves for the great feat of martyrdom.

One day, the youngest of his friends, Jamblichus, dressed in beggar's rags and went to the city to buy bread. It was then that he heard that the authorities were looking for all of them to bring them to justice. The young men voluntarily came out of their hiding place. As a death sentence, the emperor ordered the men to be walled up in their own cave so that they would die there of thirst and hunger.

However, it is believed that by the will of the Lord the youths did not die, but fell into a deep sleep, sleeping for two centuries. One fine day, the owner of the land on which Mount Ohlon was located decided to start construction there. Then, on his orders, the entrance to the cave was dismantled. The Lord woke up the youths, and they woke up without even realizing that almost 200 years had passed since the execution.

Interestingly, the legend became famous not only in Orthodox theology, but also in the Muslim religion.

Christians offer prayers in memory of the Seven Youths of Ephesus twice a year: August 4 and October 22 (according to the Julian calendar). It is believed that the young men who were ready to give their lives for their faith, and the prayer dedicated to their feat, symbolize not only the time when all Christians suffered from persecution for their religion, but also the period when Orthodoxy triumphed.

In addition to the fact that prayers dedicated to the seven youths of Ephesus are read in churches on memorial days, this religious text is distinguished by its incredible power. Mothers say this prayer if their babies are not sleeping well. The thing is that children are very weak spiritually and emotionally, so they are often exposed to the spread of negative clots of energy. Because of this, they may not sleep at night and cry. You can get rid of such trouble if you read the prayer to the Seven Youths of Ephesus at the head of your baby’s bed.

It is very important to say this prayer several times, preferably every evening before going to bed.

At the same time, be sure to feel the words with which you address the saints, then the baby will sleep more peacefully.

Advice for Mothers on Prayer Practice

Most mothers are concerned with the question: “Should I tell my child about God and how, in general, should I do it?” Of course, it is good when parents themselves pray for their children, but it would be more correct to teach the child himself to turn to God and not be afraid of it. After all, sometimes not every mother knows what is going on in her children’s souls.

Therefore, it is necessary to instill a positive attitude towards the Orthodox faith from a young age and show this by example. Sometimes you can bring a child to the temple during the service, explain the rules of behavior inside the temple, talk about God, about different icons, the meaning and significance of prayers

The mother should take a closer look at her child after visiting the cathedral, paying attention to his reaction, and talk about this topic

Children will gain better understanding if parents keep the commandments, go to church meetings, pray, confess their sins, and take the sacrament. Then it is easier for children to understand what God’s love is and why they need to love each other as themselves. For a prayer request to have enormous power of fulfillment, mom and dad must constantly abide in the Word of God, strengthen their spirit and be filled with love and light.

Blessings from mothers play a big role in the lives of their children. Therefore, if children are far from home or are going on a long journey, it is necessary to bless them. Even if they are not going to travel far, but are just going to work, then they also need to give their blessing for the entire working day. After blessing, the mother needs to cross the child and pray for him, so that God will send a guardian angel to protect him from unforeseen situations.

So that the baby’s dreams are pleasant, the consciousness is righteous, and the soul is pure, parents read prayers before going to bed, asking for support and help, for peace and spiritual purity, which bestow the main thing - God’s grace, bright faith and imperishable hope.

Sometimes poor sleep is a consequence of a previous or current illness. Then prayers for sleep should be supported by the help of doctors. But there are times when it is impossible to explain the reasons for a child’s anxiety and poor sleep. Knowledgeable people say that at such moments a child seems to be possessed by a demon.

This is where it is very important and necessary to read a prayer before sleep

This will not only calm the child and give him wonderful dreams, but will also cleanse his soul from all kinds of evil that befell him during the day, because the physical and mental state and health of children are most susceptible to the influence of negative outside influences.

Prayer is the best solution in this situation, but it is worth remembering that before raising it to the Lord, parents must strictly adhere to the following Orthodox rules:

  • the holy word has the best effect on the baptized;
  • you need to keep all God's commandments and try to live righteously;
  • The prayer should only be read by heart;
  • always remain calm and peaceful;
  • wish with all your heart the fulfillment of your plans;
  • believe in the power of words and in the person to whom they are addressed (if there is none, it is better not to say the prayer);
  • ask forgiveness for your sins, repent;
  • read the prayer quietly, in a whisper (this protects against nightmares);
  • If possible, wash the child with holy water at night.

Only if all these laws are honestly followed will the holy words be heard, which means the child will always be under the reliable protection of the Lord.
