Prayer for making the right decision
“I have a difficult situation, and I’m already completely confused. The fact is that now I am dating a man who is married. He treats me very well, he loves me, but... At the same time, I am dating another man with whom I once lived for two years, but then we broke up.
He has changed a lot during this time, he also seems to love me. You know, these two people are so different that it’s impossible to even compare them. I don’t want to return to my old boyfriend, but I can’t build a relationship with a married man or meet on the sly.
I don’t want to deceive any of them, I’m really worried about the current situation. I just can't figure out which one I should choose.
Or maybe it's better to leave both? Help me, please, perhaps there is some kind of conspiracy with the help of which I could understand this situation and make the right decision. I don’t know what to do, and I really count on your advice.”
You may be advised to read a prayer for making the right decision. Her words are:
Lord Almighty, come to me, God’s servant (name), to help. Guide me on the right path, help me make the right decision (in this and that). Mother Intercessor, Helper of sinners, come to help me, God’s servant (name), guide me on the right path, help me make the right decision (in this and that).
Saint (your saint’s name), come to me, God’s servant (name), to help. Pray to our Lord and His Most Pure Mother for my salvation, help and tell me to make the right decision (in this and that).
Angel of Christ, my holy guardian and patron of my soul and body, guide me on the path of salvation and making the right decision (in this and that). Amen.
From conversations with Hieroschemamonk Mikhail (Pitkevich)
“I completely agree with you, Serezhenka. We must entrust ourselves to God’s Providence and desire nothing more than the fulfillment of God’s will for us.”
“There are three ways here,” said Father Mikhail. — The first is when the very circumstances of our life show us where to go and what to do.
Generally speaking, we should avoid everything that deprives us of peace of soul: people, books, letters and activities that give rise to religious doubts, despondency, worldliness, pride in us - while everything that increases faith, humility, mercy and peace in the soul is established, must be supported and developed. There are, however, circumstances when it is difficult to decide what to do. In this case, the best thing is to get the advice of our elder; but if we don’t have any elder, then we can consult with our confessor, or with any priest, or even with a pious and experienced layman. We, however, should not open our souls to everyone, but only to those whom we trust and whom we know to be people of God. And we must, of course, pray to God that He would show us His will.
The Monk Barsanuphius teaches us that if we have no one to consult with, we must pray to God three times, setting out our case, and then observe in which direction the decision of our heart is inclined - at least a little. And then act accordingly.
The monk advises praying for three days in a row, but if there is no time, you can pray three times over a short period, imitating the Lord who prayed three times in one night in Gethsemane - with the same words.
The Fathers teach us: if we [almost already] believe that our decision corresponds to the will of God, but still experience some doubts, then we must pray especially earnestly.
And if during this prayer our heart becomes more and more inclined towards one decision, and doubts simultaneously decrease, then we should take this as a sign that we are acting in accordance with the will of God. In the end, doubts will disappear completely, and we will be left with one single and clear solution.
In some special cases, casting lots is permissible. The apostles resorted to this when choosing an apostle to replace Judas. They did the same during the election of Patriarch Tikhon of Moscow. I myself once used this method when I had no one to consult with. The fact that the decision made was correct was [later] confirmed, although it was difficult to imagine that day.”

How to make the right decision with the help of prayers to God
and He called the Apostle Matthias by lot to serve Himself,
Elder Alexy Patriarch of All-Russian Tikhon indicated by lot,
Grant, Lord, that I, who am incapacitated, may know Your will and give me the strength to humbly accept and fulfill it.
And don’t count this request against me as a sin, lest I be with those deicides,
at Your Cross they cast lots for Your clothing,
but may I be with those lovers of God to whom You, Lord, revealed Your will by lot.
Do not let the enemy of our salvation laugh at me, but deal with me according to Your mercy.
You, Lord, have given a promise to Your servants that their prayers will be heard,
Hear my prayer and tell me the way, and I will go there.

Open your way to the Lord and trust in Him, and He will do it.
(Ps. 36:5).
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.
(Prov. 3, 5).
Test what pleases God.
(Eph. 5:10).
Whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
(Col. 3, 17).
Desire that your affairs be arranged not as you imagine, but as God pleases.
Saint Gregory of Nyssa (IV century).
When you want to resolve a puzzling (confused) matter, then look for what is pleasing to God about it, and of course you will find a useful solution to it. Whatever we do without prayer and good hope will later turn out to be harmful.
Venerable Mark the Ascetic (IV-V centuries)
Get down to business, first of all, pray to God... Where the name of the Lord is, everything is fine.
Saint John Chrysostom (407).
All who want to know the will of the Lord must first mortify their own will; and, having prayed to God, with faith and uncunning simplicity, question the fathers and brothers, in humility of heart and without any doubt in thought, and accept their advice as from the mouth of God, even if they were contrary to their own reason, and even if those asked were not very spiritual. For God is not unrighteous, and will not allow those souls to be deceived who, with faith and kindness, humbly submitted themselves to the advice and judgment of their neighbor.
Venerable John Climacus (649).
What we do without reasoning is not good, although out of ignorance we regard it as good. Through reasoning, a person recognizes his strength and the enterprise he wants to embark on, and thus begins to please God with deeds. But in everything, as it is said, he must renounce his desires in order to comprehend God’s intention. Any deed in which there is doubt should not be done or affirmed as good by anyone, unless he can live or be saved without it.
Venerable Peter of Damascus (8th century).
He is honorable before God and people who does nothing that could frustrate love.
Venerable Thalassius (VII century).
Everything that distracts us from God is contrary to the will of God; everything that leads us to God is in accordance with the will of God.
Saint John, Metropolitan of Tobolsk (1715).
In every matter, ask yourself: does it serve to salvation?
Hieromonk Arseny Svyatogorets (XIX century).
In frustration, there is no need to solve any matter, as the Holy Fathers advise.
Schema-abbot Ioann (Alekseev) (1873-1958).
Everything must be done with expectation, consideration and prayer to the Lord, may He help you fulfill your good intention...
Venerable Macarius of Optina (1788-1860).
Maintain the fear of God, guard your conscience, and keep God’s commandments; then you will see how you need to act in unimportant cases, taking into account local circumstances.
Venerable Ambrose of Optina (1812-1891).
When something is put before you that is in accordance with the will of God, or is good in itself, do not immediately incline your will towards it and do not lust after it, unless you first raise your mind to God in order to understand that there is the direct will of God for this. ═══ Let any deed be in itself the simplest and last, but when it is done solely to please God and for His glory, then it is incomparably more valuable in the eyes of God than many other high, glorious and greatest deeds that are not done. for this purpose. When your desire is inclined towards something, even something holy, put it alone, naked from everything extraneous, before your God with the deepest humility, begging Him that His will be in this, and not your will; and do this with a sincere and heartfelt surrender of yourself to the will of God, without any admixture of pride, knowing that on your own you cannot do anything in the matter of your salvation.
Venerable Nicodemus the Holy Mountain (1749-1809).
Whoever, before every deed and word, turns to God in prayer for admonition, help and blessing, lives his life as if under the gaze of God, under His guidance. Will any good thought come to you? Stop: don’t rush to fulfill it recklessly, thoughtlessly. Do you feel any good attraction in your heart? Stop; don’t dare to get carried away by him. Master the Gospel. Consider whether your good thought and your good desire of heart agree with the all-holy teaching of the Lord. You will soon see that there is no agreement between the good of the Gospel and the good of fallen human nature.
Saint Ignatius (Brianchaninov) (1807-1867).
People set goals for themselves and try to achieve them, without listening to what the will of God is and without trying to coordinate their actions with it. We must entrust God with the guidance of the course of affairs, and we ourselves must fulfill our duty with curiosity. A person will suffer unless he trusts God to such an extent that he completely surrenders himself into His hands. If a person wants to live without torment, then he must believe in what Christ said: Without Me you cannot do anything.
. That is, you need, in the positive sense of the word, to despair of yourself and believe in the power of God. Having despaired, in the good sense of the word, in himself, a person finds God. I place all my hope in You. It is better to let what you are thinking of doing mature... When serious things are delayed a little, then they are done quickly and correctly... Action before thought is pride. Therefore, we must not rush to act, but first think about everything and pray. When prayer precedes, it is not intellectual foam or frivolity that works, but sanctified reason.
Elder Paisiy Svyatogorets (1924-1994).

Maternal Appeal
The power of prayer lines, spoken with sincere faith, can save a child from sins, enlighten and illuminate his life path with true actions. It is necessary to say “Lord, have mercy” 12 times.
“Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, prayers for the sake of Thy Most Pure Mother, hear me, Thy sinful and unworthy servant (name). Lord, in the mercy of Your power, my child (name), have mercy and save him for Your name’s sake. Lord, forgive him all the sins, voluntary and involuntary, that he committed before You. Lord, guide him on the true path of Your commandments and enlighten him and enlighten him with Your light of Christ, for the salvation of the soul and the healing of the body. Lord, bless him in the house, around the house, in the field, at work and on the road and in every place of Your possession. Lord, protect him under the protection of Your Saints from a flying bullet, arrow, knife, sword, poison, fire, flood, from a deadly ulcer and from vain death. Lord, protect him from visible and invisible enemies, from all troubles, evils and misfortunes. Lord, heal him from all diseases, cleanse him from all filth (wine, tobacco, drugs) and ease his mental suffering and sorrow. Lord, grant him the grace of the Holy Spirit for many years of life, health, and chastity. Lord, give him Your blessing for a godly family life and godly childbearing. Lord, grant me, Thy unworthy and sinful servant, a parental blessing on my child in the coming mornings, days, evenings and nights, for Thy name’s sake, for Thy Kingdom is eternal, omnipotent and omnipotent. Amen".
Prayer service for a child
“Lord Jesus Christ, bring Your mercy to my children (names). Keep them under Your roof, cover them from all evil lust, drive away from them every enemy and adversary, open the ears and eyes of their hearts, grant tenderness and humility to their hearts. Lord, we are all Your creation, have pity on my children (names) and turn them to repentance. Save, O Lord, and have mercy on my children (names) and enlighten their minds with the light of reason of Your Gospel and guide them on the path of Your commandments and teach them, O Savior, to do Your will, for You are our God. Amen".
Another version of the prayer for the true path serves as salvation from the wrong path, a direction for all family members. With the help of love and faith of the one who pronounces these lines, turning to the Lord gains strength.
“Merciful Lord, Jesus Christ, I entrust to You our children, whom You gave to us by fulfilling our prayers.
I ask You, Lord, save them in the ways that You Yourself know. Save them from vices, evil, pride, and let nothing that is contrary to You touch their souls. But grant them faith, love and hope for salvation, and may they be Your chosen vessels of the Holy Spirit, and may their life path be holy and blameless before God.
Bless them, Lord, may they strive every minute of their lives to fulfill Your holy will, so that You, Lord, may always be with them by Your Holy Spirit.
Lord, teach them to pray to You, so that prayer may be their support and joy in sorrows and the consolation of their lives, and may we, their parents, be saved by their prayer. May Your angels always protect them.
May our children be sensitive to the grief of their neighbors and may they fulfill Your commandment of love. And if they sin, then grant them, Lord, to bring repentance to You, and You, in Your ineffable mercy, forgive them.
When their earthly life ends, then take them to Your Heavenly Abodes, where let them lead with them other Your chosen servants.
Through the prayer of Your Most Pure Mother Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary and Your Saints (all holy families are listed), Lord, have mercy and save us, for You are glorified with Your Beginning Father and Your Most Holy Good Life-Giving Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen".
Appeal to Our Lady
In difficult moments, it is important to turn to the Saints for help. They pray using this option together with the akathist to the icon “Seeking the Lost.” Conversion helps set you on the right path and find peace of mind.
“O zealous intercessor, Compassionate Mother of the Lord, I come running to You, a wretched man and a sinner above all, listen to the voice of my prayer, hear my cry and groans, for my iniquities have surpassed my head, and I, like a ship in the abyss, am plunging into the sea of sins mine. But You, All-Good and Merciful Lady, do not despise me, desperate and perishing in sins; have mercy on me, who repent of my evil deeds, and turn my lost, accursed soul to the right path. On You, my Lady Theotokos, I place all my hope. Thou, Mother of God, preserve and keep me under Thy roof, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen".
