Folk calendar about every day

Every day one season always replaces another and this determines a person’s way of life. In connection with this, a folk calendar was formed in which there were practically no nameless, unmarked days. Every day was special, had its own purpose. All this was determined by climate conditions and astrological phenomena.

A calendar is a system for counting periods of time. The first calendars arose a long time ago, in ancient times, because there was a need to measure time. The word calendar comes from the Latin words caleo - to proclaim and calendarium - debt book. This is due to the fact that in Ancient Rome the beginning of each month was especially proclaimed, and because it was customary to pay debts on the first day of the month. Different peoples counted time differently. Some calendars are based on the changing phases of the moon - lunar calendars; in others - the change of seasons - sunny; in others, the length of the year was coordinated with the change of seasons, and the counting of months was associated with the phases of the Moon. Such calendars are called lunisolar.

In Rus', the calendar was called a monthly calendar. Every day, the month book covered the entire year of peasant life, “describing” day by day, month after month, where each day had its own holidays or weekdays, customs and superstitions, traditions and rituals, natural signs and phenomena. The cyclical nature of the calendar is reminiscent of human life, where spring is youth, summer is heyday, autumn is the time of harvesting fruits (it’s good if there are some, otherwise you can live your life without collecting fruits), winter is the time of wisdom and peace. This cyclicality and rhythm determined the way of life of the farmer. The folk calendar was an agricultural calendar, which was reflected in the names of the months, folk signs, rituals and customs. Even the determination of the timing and duration of the seasons is associated with real climatic conditions. Hence the discrepancy between the names of the months in different areas... Prayer to Saint Catherine during difficult childbirth

The most beautiful, wise, wonderful Virgin, St. Great Martyr Catherine! Having completely studied all Hellenic wisdom, oratory and philosophy, and the science of medicine, having learned well, you desired more enlightenment, but having believed in Christ, in a vision you saw the eternal baby in the arms of his most pure mother, who gave you the ring of immortal betrothal to him. Then, having endured severe torment, severe blows and cruel wounds, and the darkness of prison, and the crushing of members on wheels, by the power of Christ you were healed from all this. Going to execution, you prayed thus, glorious great martyr: “Lord Jesus Christ! I will call on those who are your all-holy name, and fill them with good forgiveness of everything they need, so that your greatness may be sung from everyone forever.” To the wives who are tormented by birth illnesses and who call on you for help, showing intercession, you, Saint Catherine; Therefore, now, with love and reverence, those who pray to you, and with warm faith, and with tears from the bottom of their hearts, do not reject the wives who come running to you, hasten to their aid and free them from difficult childbirth, so that having given birth to children, they will raise them in the fear of God, thanking you, most glorious Catherine, for the help shown to them, and glorifying God for you with all their house. Amen.

Fishing calendar for every day

The fishing calendar should not be taken as an absolutely indisputable truth. Fish biting is greatly influenced by a whole range of natural factors, as well as the influence on the nature of man himself. You must not forget that the fish’s bite depends and is determined not only by the calendar dates and biological cycles of their life, reflected in the calendar, but also, no less, by the state of their habitat; the bite also depends on weather conditions: air and water temperatures, cloudiness, wind direction and strength, etc... Seeing a vision similar to herself, Catherine flowed to the holy elder, the icon of the Mother of God who had previously given her the icon, and told him how the Mother turned away His face to her when he appeared with His Most Pureness whom Christ called me foolish, and poor, and ugly, until he forsakes the wickedness of idols . Orthodox calendar about every day

Orthodox calendar: Orthodox, Church and Christian holidays.

The church year is an alternation of weekdays and holidays. On weekdays, a person is called to work “by the sweat of his brow to earn his bread.” Holidays are given in order to feel liberation, to rise above the bustle and routine of the world, to feel involved in the highest of worlds, “where there are no illnesses, sorrows and sighs, but endless life.” Since ancient times, holiday cycles have been associated with the seasons. The pagans associated them with the worship of the forces of nature, the cult of which in the Old Testament was replaced by gratitude to the Creator for the universe. And although the connection between holidays and the seasons has not completely lost its power, since God is present in everything, in the plant and animal world, in human works, it nevertheless faded into the background, giving way to a spiritual foundation built on the Sacred Scriptures. The history of Orthodox holidays dates back to the times of the Old Testament. Each of the Orthodox holidays is dedicated to the remembrance of the most important events in the life of Jesus Christ and the Mother of God, as well as the memory of saints... One of the most revered ancient saints

VMC. Catherine's life

The Great Martyr Catherine was one of the fourteen especially revered ancient saints throughout the Christian world. In the West, she is considered to be the patron of science and education. In the Eastern world, she is revered as an assistant in childbirth. In Rus', she became the first saint to whom a girl prays for a happy marriage.

November 24 / December 7 – day of remembrance of the Great Martyr Catherine of Alexandria, virgin

May 5 (movable) – Council of the Sinai Venerables.

Brief Life

The Great Martyr Catherine (before baptism - Dorothea) was born in 287 into the imperial family in Alexandria, Egypt. The girl was unusually smart, highly educated and unusually beautiful. Her mother was a closet Christian. And Dorothea was converted to the Christian faith by her mother’s spiritual father - a Syrian monk - a desert dweller, who baptized her under the name Catherine.

Interesting fact

The name Catherine came into Russian from Byzantium and means “always pure, immaculate.”

In 304, the Roman Emperor Maximilian himself arrived in Alexandria. During a festive sacrifice in one of the pagan temples, Saint Catherine began to openly profess Christianity and call on the emperor to leave the pagan gods and convert to the true faith:

“Know the true God, beginningless and infinite. For them kings reign and the world stands.”

Struck by her beauty, Maximian tried to seduce the beautiful maiden, offering his wealth in exchange for his renunciation of Christ. Catherine was adamant. Even the fifty learned men who were convened could not convince the Virgin of Alexandria with their crushing arguments - after a few days they admitted defeat.

Useful materials

She was imprisoned, where she was subjected to severe torture and was eventually beheaded. According to legend, instead of blood, milk flowed from the wound of the holy virgin, and her relics were transferred by angels to Mount Sinai immediately after the execution.

Interesting fact

In the 4th century, a monastery was founded here in honor of the saint. Today it is one of the oldest continuously operating Christian monasteries in the world.

Russian folk calendar for every day

The word “sign” comes from the word “notice”, i.e. observe. As a result of observing what happens around a person every day, he accumulates life experience. This knowledge was passed down from generation to generation, carefully preserved and people trusted it as a sacred book. Many signs have come to us from the depths of centuries without losing their knowledge. Each of us is free to choose: to dismiss all this as an absurd superstition or to take a closer look at the signs and take the centuries-old experience of generations more seriously. Most of us, when taking exams, ask them to scold them, boasting about some kind of good fortune or luck, spit so as not to jinx them or knock on wood, take a detour if a black cat crossed the road, are afraid of the number 13 and much more. And who among us does not have lucky things, numbers? Who has never resorted to the help of fate at least once in their life, who has not believed in secrets? It’s as if everything connected with signs is hidden somewhere deep in our subconscious. Often we remember them mechanically, unconsciously, or just as a joke. But, undoubtedly, the signs contain a lot of accurate knowledge and practical wisdom of our ancestors. They cover all the characteristic, often difficult to perceive, natural phenomena. Signs have preserved a lot of what was in old folk holidays and customs; they help predict the weather, grow crops... Next: Folk signs...

Ikos 6

The light of true understanding of God, shining in your heart, drove away the darkness of sorrows, who did not leave you hungry, sending you food like a dove, even though you were suffering from illness, visited you in prison, encouraging you and promising you many crowns. But you, patient-hearted, have thus strengthened even more the Queen Augusta and the governor Porphyry, who came to you from the army, you turned to the light of the faith of Christ and taught you to sing this: Rejoice, the world-maker of Divine love; Rejoice, strong adamante. Rejoice, wine of unspeakable miracles; Rejoice, you who killed the enemy with patience. Rejoice, you who bore the wounds of the Lord on your body; Rejoice, Queen Augusta, guide to those who came to the martyrdom. Rejoice, for in the darkness you were light; Rejoice, for the Lord Himself, the Light of the world, showed Himself to you, in the former prison. Rejoice, speedy bonds of sin for the resolute; Rejoice, quick healer for those who are sick. Rejoice, helper of our salvation. Rejoice, Catherine, wise bride of Christ.

The godless king wants to lead you to vile idolatry, but the wise one lays out a snare for you to catch you with the flattering praise of your beauty; You called beauty a thing that is temporary and fleeting, but you confessed Christ as a living and true God and sang to him: Alleluia.

Ikos 7

The king showed new rage and inhumanity, commanding the eparch to tear apart your virgin, pure and holy body with wheels, but miraculously, by the hand of an Angel, you were allowed to be harmless and the wheels were crushed into pieces, and many were killed by the infidels, as the king himself and the coming people, like him, were surprised. cry: “Great is the Christian God.” We, marveling at this, cry out to you: Rejoice, martyr, honest and godlike Angel; Rejoice, glory to the suffering regiments. Rejoice, bright victory against your enemies; Rejoice, fear of the infidels. Rejoice, vessel of the abundant power of God; Rejoice, joy of the faithful. Rejoice, Catherine, wise bride of Christ.

Kontakion 8

Ikos 8

All the sweetness, all the desire for you, Saint Catherine, be Jesus: sweet for His sake, for the sake of bitter torment, you endured and the scepter offered to you, you trampled, foreseeing the future reward. Accept this praise from us: Rejoice, pure, pure lover of the Pure; Rejoice, turtledove, who longed for the Red Bridegroom in the desert of the world below. Rejoice, you who accomplished the feat of suffering for the love of Christ; Rejoice, you who brought the face of a martyr to God. Rejoice, for through you you have received the Kingdom of Heaven; Rejoice, for you will also receive tea. Rejoice, the cover and ours. Rejoice, Catherine, wise bride of Christ.

Kontakion 9

All angelic nature rejoiced with joy, in vain, Ekaterino, having defeated the ruler of the world, marching to the world like a victorious commander, following the suffering regiment, and sang victorious, crying out: Alleluia.

Ikos 9

The messages of much prophecy have become muted: since they are unable to counter-pronounce with your inspired words, they honor your gifts with silence; How can we, who are weak, open our mouths to your praise? However, we dare and pray that you are worthy, O good one, to comfortably bring you this song: Rejoice, organ of the Holy Spirit; Rejoice, dawn of indescribable radiance. Rejoice, abyss of Divine dogmas; Rejoice, thou art of cunning, who hast corrupted the philosophers. Rejoice, cup of wisdom; Rejoice, you who tore apart the weaving of branches. Rejoice, you who resolve the captivity of sin. Rejoice, Catherine, wise bride of Christ.

Kontakion 10

Wanting to save your soul, you neglected your body, Ekaterino, and at the beheading of the sword, having given the tormentor the saying for that, you joyfully flowed, singing to the Holy Immortal: Alleluia.

Ikos 10

A hard and insurmountable wall appeared to the wives who accompanied you to the place of beheading and with sobs called you hard-hearted towards yourself and being reckless: because you did not spare the sweet belly in the flower of youth, because you despised the earthly kingdom and bliss offered. You forbade their useless crying and idle talk, flowing to quickly unite through death with your Beloved, for this reason you hear: Rejoice, joyfully for the Head of the Church of Christ, who bowed her head to the sword; Rejoice, you who endured to the end. Rejoice, thou who passed away well; Rejoice, for you have not been led astray by sorrow, by wounds, or by the sword from the path of Christ’s confession. Rejoice, for you have kept the flame of love in the fountain of blood unquenchable; Rejoice, beauty of the martyrs. Rejoice, strong refuge for Christians. Rejoice, Catherine, wise bride of Christ.

Kontakion 11

I dare to bring you praiseworthy singing, but our words become impoverished and our minds are perplexed as to what to say; On the other hand, your wise word, which has snatched many away from ignorance and idolatry, restores us. Give us your word, in singing to the God who astonished His greatness upon you: Alleluia.

Ikos 11

I shine your light-receiving light, extinguished by sword truncation, but placed on the heavenly candlestick before the Throne of the Holy Trinity, having seen the holy Angels, bowing to the One who lives forever and, having received a command from the Lord, buried your virgin body on Mount Sinai, so that it will not be visible, as you yourself wanted , enemy of the Lord. Rejoice, indication of Elijah’s jealousy; Rejoice, fireproof bush phenomenon. Rejoice, O virgin, Virgin Queen, clothed in gilded vestments, dotted with the following; Rejoice, for by you He is glorified among the tympanic virgins. Rejoice, for His glory is upon you; Rejoice, primate of the Eternal Throne. Rejoice, you who watch over the prayer books from the temple of the universe to you; Rejoice, favorable censer of prayers to the Most High for us. Rejoice, Catherine, wise bride of Christ.

Grace has been given to you from God to guide you to the knowledge of His truth in the most hidden mystery, and to give petitions to everyone for the benefit. In the same way, we, darkened, tenderly ask you, wise virgin: enlighten our intelligent eyes and lay out for us a path to Heaven, so that we may sing with you now and forever to the One Wise: Alleluia.

Ikos 12

Singing your mighty martyrdom, we praise you as an animated vessel of the salvation of men: for with your mind God has destroyed the wisdom of the wise of this age; by you you have called the ancients into a holy language, into a people of renewal, so as to suffer for Christ. Enlighten us, O good virgin, who are darkened, and let us call to you: Rejoice, mirror of God’s wisdom; Rejoice, clothed in the power of the Most High. Rejoice, ascetic, anointed with the oil of joy; Rejoice, commander, who sent the army of God to eternal majesty. Rejoice, the saint who has entered in grace; Rejoice, you who appeared in the unapproachable light of the Living One in the person of fiery servants. Rejoice, multiplying the thunder of the Trisagion with your voice; Rejoice, you who taste the indescribable sweetness of kindness. Rejoice, for praise and joy are upon your head; Rejoice, for eternal glory surrounds you. Rejoice, thou crowned from the Trinitarian Divinity with the crown of the Heavenly Kingdom; Rejoice, grace and endless glory to us intercessor. Rejoice, Catherine, wise bride of Christ.

Zodiac, astrological, eastern calendar. Zodiac signs

In ancient times, to establish the calendar, priests used knowledge of the positions of all the planets. Before the reform of Peter 1, the New Year was celebrated on the Day of the Autumn Equinox. On this day, according to ancient legend, the most peaceful treaty was concluded between the Great Race (ancient Slavs) and the Great Dragon (ancient Chinese) and it was approximately 7518 years ago... For the ancient Slavs, the calendar month corresponded to the lunar cycle from new moon to new moon, taking into account such Thus, the relationship of the entire annual cycle with astronomical and natural phenomena. There was no coherent calendar system. The main natural phenomena are still considered to this day to be the days of the solar equinox and solstice - the Slavic holidays Maslenitsa, Kupala, Ovsen and Kolyada. But during the time of Peter 1, all ancient Slavic calendars were abolished and a new Western European calendar from the Nativity of Christ (Julian calendar) was introduced, while the beginning of the calendar was moved to January 1. The Julian calendar (old style) did not take leap days into account and accumulated one extra day every 128 years. After the October Revolution in 1918, the Gregorian calendar (new style) was introduced in Russia, according to which an amendment of 13 days was introduced. The calendar of the ancient Slavs was based on two planets: the Sun and the Moon. And now they don’t use anything at all. The calendar has become static. There is no such thing as the calendar, it turns out, resting on some planet. Nobody even knows about it. There are just some standard numbers, there are months and holidays. The calendar is based on the Sun and Moon. Why is this so? Because these two luminaries influence the Earth. The Earth revolves around the Sun, and the Moon revolves around the Earth. And these two luminaries create the atmosphere on the planet. From here the calendar is built... Next: Astrological calendar...
