When melancholy presses with an unbearable burden and it seems that life will pass alone, people turn to the help of the faithful princes who patronize the family: Peter and Fevronia of Murom, Dmitry Donskoy and Euphrosyne of Moscow, Cyril and Mary of Radonezh - all these saints lived in a pious marriage.
But there is another saint - Elder Matrona of Moscow, who during her lifetime did not have a family, but in an amazing way “arranges” the personal destinies of many.

One day, a fellow villager from her native village of Sebino, in the Tula region, approached Matrona Nikonova with the question: “Should I marry my daughter Evdokia?” By everyday standards, the offer was a great success for an elderly, illiterate peasant woman, exhausted from hard work. However, Matronushka ordered to refuse the groom, adding that Dunya’s husband would be a handsome and rich gentleman. The girl followed the advice, and soon, having moved to Moscow and getting a job as a maid in the house of the Zhdanov nobles, she became the wife of the master's son Vladimir.

How to Pray for Prosperity in Your Personal Life
The saints, being with the Lord, contemplate each person in the Holy Spirit, know his needs, regardless of place and time. Therefore, it is a mistake to think that in order to receive the help of this or that saint of God, it is necessary to come to his grave, to his relics, to the miraculous icon. Of course, you can turn to the saint in any way.
At the same time, a pilgrimage trip can turn out to be very useful: prayerful communication with a saint, participation in divine services, even better - in the sacraments, the very work of a long, not very easy road - all this not only attracts the mercy of God, but often helps to understand God’s will itself about the fate of yourself or a loved one.
What is the most powerful prayer?
The Orthodox do not have the concept of “strong prayer” as some kind of magic spell. However, there really are prayers that preserve the spirit of their compilers. But humility means, first of all, agreement with God’s will for one’s life. And this can be a blessing both for creating a family and for loneliness. Submission to God’s determination, according to the experience of many believers, never brings harm to a person, it is always saving, for only the Lord, according to the words of the Evangelist, “He Himself knows what is in a person” (cf. John 2:25), what his purpose, inclinations, life path. Therefore, in Orthodox prayer books there can be neither “prayer for the husband” nor “prayer for the wife.” The very names of such “prayers”, distributed on various Internet pages, show the desire to substitute one’s own will instead of the Lord’s, which is completely inconsistent with Christianity.
How to read prayers to Matrona
A prayer appeal to Saint Matrona of Moscow has its own rules:
- for prayer you need to choose a calm, secluded place in the house, you can also light a candle in front of the image of the saint;
- if there is some serious problem in the family, you should immediately and more than once turn to Saint Matronushka with prayer;
- You should pray with a sincere, pure, repentant heart, in the same case, if the prayer does not come from faith, you should not even hope for the help of Mother Matrona.

Is it worth begging for a certain person to be your wife?
Knowing God's will about oneself is a long, complex, painful process. Few modern people can trust God completely, and therefore most often ask for the fulfillment of their own desires, including even those related to a specific person for whom they have feelings. Being merciful about our weakness, especially when a believer, a humble person asks, saints often bow to requests.
At the same time, from the life of Blessed. Matrona knows such a case. Once during Great Lent a girl came to her for a blessing to get married. “Where are you going to fast? I’ll pass you off as good later!” - answered the saint. But the girl, carried away by her feelings, acted of her own free will and even gave birth to a daughter. Soon, however, she became seriously ill with tuberculosis, and the marriage itself did not bring her happiness.
That is why, perhaps, the most reasonable (although not easily given) request would be to turn to the saint with a request to arrange something useful, and not to “marry” her to a certain person.

Years have passed, and today there is a constant stream of people asking for help from the Holy Matrona of Moscow with requests for arranging their personal lives and gratitude for receiving it. Here are some amazing examples:
- A young woman accidentally ended up in the Pokrovsky Monastery “for company” with a friend. It was Christmas Eve with an unusual frost for Moscow of thirty degrees. After standing in line for three hours, the girls approached the relics of the old woman. The friend really wanted to get married, and turned to the saint with her last hope. A month after the pilgrimage, I met my future husband.
- The young people lived in a “civil marriage” for three years. Over time, the woman began to think about life and realized that such relationships were sinful. For several months she tried to convince her life partner to formalize the relationship, but he believed that they were “good enough as it is.” Desperate, she turned to Matronushka. Having gained patience, she endured for another year, and, in her opinion, a real miracle happened - the young man not only decided to go to the registry office, but also proposed getting married, since his previously sharply negative attitude towards Orthodoxy had radically changed.
- An elderly woman came to Kiev to stay with her unmarried daughter . Arriving at a Sunday service at a nearby church, I heard from the priest that one of the parishioners was going to go to the Moscow Intercession Monastery to pray for his wife’s recovery, and invited everyone to submit notes and donations. She followed the priest’s advice, and soon almost forgot about it, since she “never counted Blessed Matrona among her favorite saints.” However, less than six months had passed before the daughter married her old acquaintance. It turned out that he had been planning to propose for a long time, but, considering marriage to be a very important step, he hesitated for a long time.
- The young man could not get married for a long time. While passing through Moscow during a multi-hour transfer from train to train, I accidentally ended up at the Intercession Monastery, and after standing in a long line, I ended up seeing the relics of the blessed one. The main thing he asked the old woman was: “Get married and have more children.” Soon he drew attention to his old friend, whom he treated “like a sister,” seeing something more in her, and the young people got married.
The list of such stories can be continued endlessly - it is not for nothing that during her lifetime the righteous Matrona said: “Come to me as if I were alive.”
Can the blessed old woman make someone fall in love?
Requests to God and the saints concerning a person’s spiritual life and his feelings are the most difficult to fulfill.
According to the word of St. John of Damascus:
“if man is created in the Image of the blessed and essential Divinity, and the Divinity is free and has a will by nature, then man, as the Image of the Divinity, is free by nature and has a will.”
That is why a request to influence the will of a person - a manifestation of the Image of God, Divine freedom - is essentially a prayer to commit spiritual violence against him, contrary to God’s Providence for man.
About the life of the blessed saint
The beloved and revered Matrona of Moscow lived not so long ago. Even photographs of the saint during her lifetime have been preserved. Proximity in time, great love for every person, a God-fearing life and help to all those in need - these are the main qualities of everyone’s beloved saint.
The future saint (by the family of Matrona Nikonova) was born in 1881 in one of the villages in the Tula province. Her parents were poor peasants who raised four children in total and led pious Christian lives. From the very birth of the little girl, it was clear that this child was special. There is evidence that during the christening of Matrona, a column of bright light suddenly shone above her, as if marking the special purpose of the baby.

Despite the fact that the girl was blind from birth, from early childhood she unerringly found icons in the house and could sit with them for a long time. She also had a physical sign of God's chosenness - on her chest there was a special bulge, the shape clearly indicating a cross.
Due to a physical defect, the girl was not loved and often teased by her peers, so she quickly lost interest in playing with them. I spent more and more time in the temple. Already from her early youth, everyone noticed the gift of healing in the child - as soon as she prayed over the sick, even the most severe ailments receded. Rumors about the unusual girl quickly spread throughout the area, and travelers and pilgrims flocked to the poor peasant house.

Matrona was also distinguished by the gift of foresight - for example, she predicted a fire that practically destroyed the entire village, without touching the girl’s house.
Since 1952, Matrona has lived in Moscow. Having miraculously avoided arrest, she, with God's help, survives the difficult and hungry years. Without even a residence permit, she lives like a poor wanderer, resignedly enduring hardships and oppression.
How can a mother ask for her daughter or son's marriage?
Many women dream of organizing the family life of their children and raising their grandchildren, and therefore they worry when their children’s lives turn out differently. Often mothers practically demand that their son or daughter start a family as quickly as possible, “give them grandchildren,” and they are very offended when adult children react sharply to such requests as interference in their lives.
Before asking the saint for help, it is worth honestly answering the question of who needs this help: a long-grown “child”, or the mother herself, who would like to realize herself as a grandmother, mother-in-law, or mother-in-law? Isn’t there also a dependence on the opinions of others who believe that in adulthood it is “high time” to have grandchildren? If so, you should first of all solve your own spiritual or psychological problems. If a son or daughter really suffers, since it is not possible to create a family home, one can and should, without doubt, ask the saint to arrange something useful for a person troubled by sorrows. Seeing love, compassion, the blessed one and the Lord Himself will certainly rush to help.

A person oppressed by loneliness, who tries time after time to start a family, can be advised, first of all, to find the reasons for this condition. Among them may be:
- unpreparedness for a serious relationship due to the type of activity, internal structure, or other reasons;

In pre-revolutionary Russia there were many people who rarely created families, as they chose a different field of activity. For example, there were very few families among doctors, teachers, lawyers, and in general those who chose a profession related to serving society. And in the village there were many girls who devoted themselves to caring for elderly relatives and raising younger ones. As a rule, girls who have been single for a long time, divorced women or widows turn to Matrona.
The saint will help everyone, but she will never allow a man to be forcibly tied to her against his will. If your loved one is involved with another woman or simply does not want to be with you, asking an intercessor to “admonish” him would be a great sin. Even if a man comes to you, the long-awaited happiness will not come. Not only women, but also their close people can ask Matrona for marriage. These include:
- parents;
- brothers and sisters;
- any blood relatives;
- friends and acquaintances who sincerely wish you well.

Divine gift
When rumors spread around the area that the girl had a divine gift, people flocked to her. It is noteworthy that the young girl could bring a person to reason with just one word and direct him to the right path. She never refused to help sinners. Seeing that the man was tormented by the sin he had committed, Matrona tried to tell him what to do, how to beg forgiveness from the Almighty.
Moreover, she herself prayed for the souls of sinners. It is for this reason that the priests consider her the intercessor of all people, who is especially favorable to them. And therefore, priests always recommend that sinners who seek repentance offer prayers to Matrona.
Quite often, single women also came to the healer. They asked for different things:
- about a happy marriage;
- about the return of an unfaithful husband to the family;
- about personal happiness.
And the healer didn’t just hear all these requests. She tried to find a way to help those suffering. She always recommended to everyone who approached her to offer prayers to the Lord and beg for his mercy. After all, only by his will can a person’s destiny be changed for the better.
Quite often Matrona offered these prayers with those women who came to her and asked for happiness in their personal lives. And therefore, it is now customary to consider Matrona the patroness of women, who, while in heaven, continues to help those who turn to her.
Brief biography of Matrona of Moscow
In the world, this patroness was better known as Matrona Nikonova. She was born into a poor family. Both parents had to work hard to support the family. In addition to Matrona, the couple had three more children. Therefore, it cannot be said that her birth was desired. The situation was significantly aggravated by the fact that the girl was born blind. The doctor who delivered the baby immediately told the sad news to the parents and warned that it would be impossible to restore the girl’s sight.
As soon as the couple learned that they had a sick child, they seriously thought about the need to give him up. Because they understood perfectly well that they would not be able to provide the baby with proper care. In addition, the appearance of a child with special needs in the family imposed certain obligations on absolutely all family members. And so the parents decided that it was better to give the girl to a shelter, where they would definitely take care of her.

But in the end, the father and mother decided to leave the baby. The reason for this is a strange dream seen by Matrona’s mother the day before. In her dream, the woman saw a beautiful bird with white plumage, which sat on her chest. The dream seemed to her like a sign from above. And so the woman flatly refused to place her daughter in a shelter. Her decision was so categorical that her husband had to come to terms with it.
At first, no one approved of the decision the woman made. Even fellow villagers were against this. They saw how dire the family's situation was. And so it was not difficult to guess that for them the fourth child was a burden. After all, in those difficult times, large families did not live, but survived. But it soon became clear how wrong people were. Because this child was God's blessing.
