O venerable and God-bearing Father Anthony! We believe that you, standing before the throne of the Most Holy Trinity, have great boldness in prayers to the All-Merciful Lord God, Who will always listen to you, His faithful servant and saint. For this reason, with tenderness, we humbly fall to you, Holiness of God: do not stop praying for us to the Lord God, worshiped and glorified in the Trinity, and, having mercifully looked upon us, will not allow us to perish in our sins, but may he raise up the fallen, may he bring correction our evil and damned life, delighting us from the future falls, and may everyone forgive us if we have sinned in thought, word and deed, from birth to this hour.
You, ascetic of virtue, weigh the weakness and sorrow of the present times, pray to Christ God, that His ineffable mercy may leave us no more, but may He keep us from worldly temptations, from the devil’s snares and from carnal lusts, and may we receive from Him all that we need. to a more temporary life, liberation from troubles and misfortunes, and unrelenting patience to the end.
Ask us to end our lives in peace and repentance and to pass from earth to heaven without restraint, to be delivered from tollhouses, and air demons, and eternal torment, and to be honored with the Kingdom of Heaven with you and with all the saints who pleased the Lord God and our Savior Jesus Christ, Him All glory and honor befits worship, with His Originless Father and with His Most Holy and Good and Life-Giving Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Life of Saint Anthony the Great
Saint Anthony the Great was born into a rich and noble family. The life states that this happened in Egypt in the 250s. From infancy, parents raised Anthony and their youngest daughter in the spirit of Christian values and taught their children to fulfill the commandments of the Lord. When the future ascetic turned 18, his parents died, and his younger sister remained in his care.
Anthony regularly attended church to worship the Creator and ask him for wisdom on raising his sister. On one of these trips, on the way to the temple, Anthony was just thinking about the acts of the apostles and admired their determination to leave all earthly goods for the sake of serving God. When he entered the church, he heard words from the Holy Scriptures that if a person wants to serve God, he must give his property to the poor and follow him.
The young man was excited by these texts from the Holy Scriptures; it seemed to him that in this way the Creator was addressing him personally.
After this, Anthony made a decision that completely changed his entire future life. He wanted to distribute all the inheritance left to him by his rich parents to the poor people of the area in which he was born and raised.
The only question that tormented the future ascetic was the fate of his younger sister; the saint did not know who to entrust with caring for the girl. And again the answer from the Lord came during another visit to the temple. There were words from the Bible that you shouldn’t worry about tomorrow, it’s better to entrust all your worries to the Lord. Having heard this answer from God, Anthony entrusted his sister to Christian women he knew and left his hometown.
Saint Anthony gradually began to withdraw from worldly life; at the very beginning of his hermitage, he stayed with a pious elder who lived near the city. From this man he learned the experience of solitary life and tried to imitate the elder in everything. Anthony also visits other hermits who lived nearby. Over time, he decides to go even further and invites the elder with him, but he refuses, and the ascetic sets off on his journey alone.
After spending a lot of time alone, Anthony felt overwhelmed by fear and doubt. Not only did he suffer from hunger and cold, he was also tormented by longing for people, and thoughts came to him of quitting his ascetic labor and returning to the city. In moments of strong temptation, the Lord sent his angel to him with words of encouragement, and the saint again continued his mission.
Thus, Anthony spent about 20 years in complete solitude, communicating only with the Creator. Friends decided to visit him and check if he was okay. Arriving at the place, they tried to break down the doors of the cave where Anthony lived, but the saint himself opened the doors for them. Imagine their amazement when they found no signs of exhaustion in him, despite the fact that the ascetic took a minimum of food and lived in very difficult conditions. However, the Lord made sure that these deprivations did not affect Anthony’s health.
In total, Anthony spent about 70 years in the desert and died at a very old age, when he was 106 years old. For his great feat of asceticism, the church fathers called him the Great and canonized him.

In 311, when the persecution of Christians by Emperor Maximin began, Anthony the Great went to Alexandria to encourage his fellow believers by appearing in the most dangerous places. In 313, after the persecution had subsided, Anthony again retired to a monastery in the mountains near the Gulf of Suez. Here, in order not to cause trouble to the disciples who brought him bread, the saint began to cultivate a small field on his own.
After the hermit had been in solitude for about seventy years, he had a meeting with Paul of Thebes, who had lived in the desert for about ninety years. The latter informed him about the end of persecution and the emergence of Arianism.
Yielding to the insistence of Athanasius the Great, in 350 the schema-monk again, emerging from solitude, visited Alexandria in order to take part in the dispute with the Arians. The latter, in order to attract doubters to their side, claimed that Anthony was in their ranks. The saint, speaking at the meeting, denied this and condemned Arianism.
The appearance of the famous ascetic had a great effect. A lot of people flocked to him, expecting miracles. After this, feeling that his strength was leaving him, the hermit returned to the desert, where he died at the 105th year of his life, being revered by numerous disciples and followers.

Founder of monastic hermitage
The future saint was born in Egypt, into a wealthy family. At the age of twenty he was orphaned, and he had a little sister in his arms. Anthony showed sincere piety from childhood. After the death of his parents, one day in the temple he heard prophetic words that he was called to serve the Lord. As a consequence, Anthony abandoned the wealth left to him by his father and mother and gave it to the poor. He withdrew from the world, settling in the cell of one of the elders.

He became the founder of hermit monasticism and a fighter against Arianism, a heresy that appeared at that time.
