Father Vlasiy was born on February 8, 1934. He is one of 8 people in his family who managed to survive. His father died early, and his mother remarried. The new stepfather did not like the boy, apparently because he was too pious.
The boy was raised by his grandmother until he was 10 years old. It was she who was the person who helped the boy take the righteous and true path with God.
When Vlasiy graduated from school, he went to the city of Smolensk, where he entered medical school. This is where he truly fell in love for the first time. But the girl did not accept his faith in Christ, writing a denunciation against him. Vlasiy had to leave the institute. This is exactly how they lived under Soviet rule.
Then Vlasiy moved to his father Illarion in the Tambov region. Only here did he find peace.
Vlasiy took monastic vows - this is where a new line in his difficult life begins
“Father Hilarion put his hand on his head and said: “Don’t say anything, I know everything. You will go with me?" - “I’ll go.”
Together with Father Hilarion, Vlasiy moves to Transcarpathia, where he takes monastic vows. Pay attention to the photo - Archimandrite Blasius stands in the middle. Even outwardly, it is clear that this young man radiates kindness and affection.
After taking monastic vows, he labored for 11 years
Archimandrite Seraphim tonsured him into the great schema. This all happened secretly: the authorities were persecuted for it. While tonsuring, Father Seraphim said that the schema would always be his fortress, armor from all enemies, visible and invisible. He also predicted to him that he would be a confessor in a monastery and there would be brethren around him.
This is exactly what happened. In 1979, with the blessing of Patriarch Vlasiy, he left to restore the Borovsky Monastery.

Biography
Vlasiy (Peregontsev) (real name unknown) was born in the Smolensk region on February 8, 1934. His birth in itself is considered a miracle, since his mother was already over 50 years old at that time. His family, despite the atheistic times, were believers. My grandmother bore the rank of schema-nun. It was from her that the grandson adopted the love of God.
After graduating from school, young Vlasiy entered the medical institute in Smolensk. At the same time, he was friends with the girl, but hid from her that he visited the Assumption Cathedral in the evenings. One day, this girl, in a fit of jealousy, thinking that he was secretly going on dates with another, tracked him down and reported everything to the rector’s office. The real persecution began. The young student was forced to leave the institute without even taking his documents.
When Vlasiy was finally ready to die, the Mother of God saved him
One day, thieves broke into the temple. Elder Vlasiy was there, whom they hit on the head with a crowbar. It was a miracle that the Lord worked that he survived after multiple head surgeries.
Afterwards he was told that he had cancer. And Vlasiy goes to Athos, where he prayed for 6 months in the Vatopedi Monastery, where there is a miraculous icon of the Most Holy Theotokos “The All-Tsaritsa”, which is prayed for in cases of oncology.

When Athanasius was about to leave Athos, the Mother of God showed a miracle - she hit the rock, and a holy spring began to flow from this place. He still hits. Vlasiy bathed in this water and drank it.
6 years later, during a service in the temple, he felt that everything around him was sparkling strangely. Doctors later said that the metastases had stopped spreading.

Search and new name
Soon he completely changed his place of residence, leaving for the Tambov region, the city of Kozlov, where he met his spiritual mentor Hilarion (Rybar). They went together to the monastery of Flora and Lavra (Transcarpathia). This was, in a sense, a necessary measure, because a young student who suddenly disappeared was put on the all-Union wanted list.
After five years in the monastery, Peregontsev became a monk. Then he changed his name to Blasius (in honor of the holy martyr Blasius of Sebastia). Then he served as a cell attendant for 11 years with his confessor Hilarion.

Return to Smolensk
During the reign of Khrushchev, there were persecutions against the Orthodox Church. The Flora and Lavra Monastery was closed. Vlasiy had no choice but to return to Smolensk. There, as a regent and psalm-reader, he was received into the Assumption Cathedral, which was familiar to him. Soon the young monk became close to Bishop Gideon (Dokunin), who ordained Blasius to the rank of hieromonk and hierodeacon.
In 1972, his religious path led him to Novosibirsk, where he went after the same Gideon, who had already received the appointment of manager of the Novosibirsk diocese.

Reception
First of all, you need to remember that an appointment with a clergyman is not an ordinary trip to the doctor. Here you can’t just come with a problem and immediately get a solution. There is a certain path that a parishioner must overcome.
Father Vlasiy does not charge a fee for the reception. However, the pilgrims still try to thank him. Some leave food, and some leave money as donations to the temple. All these gifts then go to the table of the monks, pilgrims-workers and for other needs of the monastery. — How did you first learn about the priest?
Svetlana Dukhovnikova: I learned about Father Vlasiya when I was in a very bad state of mind. We have family and friends who are causing concern. And I called Zoya Dmitrievna Egorova (there was recently a publication about her in the “Bulletin of St. Pafnutiev Borovsky Monastery”). As I understand it, she also came to the priest by chance and then brought us all to him. She is currently retired. Father Vlasiy loves her and appreciates her.
And when I walked in to him for the first time, he looked at me and said: “Svetochka, how beautiful you are!” - and I answer: “Yes, father, I was at the dacha, sunbathing.” Many years later, I realized that it was not about my appearance. He saw something spiritual in me, maybe.
Father taught me a lot these years, and everything changed in my soul. I have gained confidence in life, now I have a place where you can come and they will warm you up, guide you, and teach you how to live correctly. And then you will leave and tell your loved ones and just acquaintances that there is a person, after communicating with whom you begin to live in a spiritual sense much “higher quality”, better than before meeting him.

Valentina Bogacheva. I am a teacher by profession; for many years I worked as deputy head of the administration of the Borovsky district. At one time, we decided to transfer all the premises that our agricultural technical school occupied to the monastery, so that it could begin its activities here. Already at that time, Father Vlasiy was known to many; people turned to him with all life questions. And I was asked to approach him regarding our official matters. During the conversation, the priest asked me: “Why don’t you say anything to yourself?” - I answered: “Yes, everything seems to be fine with me, I don’t want to bother you.” Then he said something to me, I answered him, and our conversation became personal. As a result, we developed a very trusting relationship.
Subsequently, the monastery and I constantly maintained business and creative contacts, and were engaged in the education and churching of our population. A Sunday school was established and we held Educational Readings. I brought my son to Father Vlasiy and my daughter-in-law - the young people eventually got married. And we bring their children here - our grandchildren. Father Vlasiy is such a kind and attentive person that he will not let a single child go without giving him some gifts. A person comes to him with a gift, but receives much more from the priest in spiritual terms. In January there was the opening of Christmas evenings here, I also came with my granddaughter. Just at this time the priest passed by. He looks at us, smiles, touches us with his hand, soft, warm - it’s so nice, he strokes his granddaughter on the head.
One day, when I arrived at the monastery, Father Blasius had just returned from vacation. He walks around the temple, greeting each icon. And I approached him: “I’m so glad that you returned after your vacation! I’ve been waiting for you!” And then my head hurt so bad - it was simply unbearable. He put his hand on my head and said: “Be quiet, be quiet,” I fell silent. Father prayed, and literally after a few minutes I felt: everything had passed, and nothing hurt anymore...
Father Vlasiy is a great optimist; by the example of his life, he seems to make one understand that a person’s faith and soul are the most important thing in life. Our great value is that there are such elders who can help people. We enjoy watching films that have been made about him, we visit him and wish him health, we pray that he will always be with us.
— What could you say about Father Vlasiy?
Svetlana Dukhovnikova. We have known Father for ten years now. This is a person who prays to the Lord God for us. Father Blasius constantly says that the Wonderworker is the Lord, but he is not a wonderworker. We come to him as a guide whose prayers the Lord hears. Father’s prayer is very strong, we feel it ourselves. This is already many years of experience. After conversations with Father Blasius, we have spiritual revelations that help us pray ourselves and help our children turn to God. We pray for our loved ones, for those children with whom we come here. Here you always get the feeling that you have come home to your mother, who knows everything about you. You go to your priest’s cell and are not afraid to say anything about yourself, because you understand: he loves you so much that he will not judge you, but will simply pray for you and ask God to correct you.
My husband has been ill for a long time: he has cancer. All doctors say that this disease cannot be cured. No matter what hospital he is in, all the health workers say that with a diagnosis like his, only the Lord preserves and guides a person. And we understand perfectly well that this is thanks to the prayers of Father Blasius. After any visit to the priest, when we come home, our children see grace on our faces and begin to believe in God and in the power of prayer even more, looking at us, because they love and respect us.
The time is now when not everyone believes in the Lord and His miracles. But we and our surroundings sincerely believe, thanks to the fact that Father Vlasiy prayed for us from the moment we first came to him. We are people of the Soviet generation (I was born in the 60th year), when the family didn’t really talk about God... We come to the Borovsky Monastery for spiritual support and try not to let the priest down: we follow all his instructions, no matter how difficult it is for us. Of course, everything doesn’t work out, because we live in the world, and Father Vlasiy often forgives us for this. But, as my husband says, Father made us people, now we just need to remain people.
— Father looks much younger than his age, what do you think is the reason for this?
Svetlana Dukhovnikova. With only one thing: with spiritual grace - only with this. I don’t know whether Father Vlasiy sleeps at all - he already prays at five in the morning, after evening prayer he prays, and besides, we understand that at his age he cannot be practically healthy. And we see that spiritual grace on this person’s face is only due to such an ascetic lifestyle. Father sometimes receives people from 5 am to 9 pm, without lunch.
— So the priest constantly prays?
Svetlana Dukhovnikova. Yes, he always prays. Father has a very interesting story. When he was in seclusion, he prayed and did not go out to people at all. And now he is not fulfilling his mission on his own - he has been blessed for this, and he is fulfilling his obedience. He brings God's grace to people. If a person did not have this grace, he would not be able to carry it to other people and teach it.
- He has such a workload, but he is always in a peaceful mood...
Svetlana Dukhovnikova. Father always smiles, he has an amazing memory. He remembers by name absolutely everyone who has ever visited him, and all their life stories. He even knows what you thought - God’s grace is so present in him. When we enter his cell, we forget about our problems and begin to smile: communication with the priest revives in us a good mood and elation, so we can feel the effect of grace emanating from him...
Father Blasius is a man like us, but the action of grace is very strong in him. As you know, “God... gives grace to the humble,” and the priest seems to have no pride at all. When you enter his cell, you get the impression that he was just waiting for you. Communication with the priest instills in you such strength, such confidence that everything will be fine, that you leave him, and as if the world, which lies in evil, no longer affects you...
Valentina Bogacheva. Father Vlasiy never gets irritated, always smiling and friendly. We were on Solovki, on Valaam - everyone knows him. And they ask: how to come to you, see him, visit him. It is a great blessing that we have such a person.
Father Vlasiy is very kind, caring and attentive. Once, on my father’s birthday, I came to him with a gift, and in return he gave me a unique, delightful book. And I think that he gives something to everyone who comes to him...
My daughter had a very sick child. When he was seven years old, she came with him to Father Vlasiy. He listened to the child, touched him, prayed, said something to him, and then turned to his mother: “Don’t worry, everything will be fine with him.” Now this boy is graduating from college with honors, and they say about him: “We haven’t had such a wonderful student for 35 years!” And his character has completely changed - we are very grateful to the priest. Valentina Bogacheva. Certainly. Nowadays, many people who have succumbed to fashion think more about external and material things. But the most important thing is the purification and transformation of the soul. First of all, you need to change your inner world, then the outer world will be perceived differently.

Svetlana Dukhovnikova: Yes. He is fasting. There are many saints known about whom they say that they ate almost nothing, maybe only a small piece of bread and a little water, and yet they lived for a long time. When there is no irritation, pride, envy in a person, there is no resentment towards this life, but only grace in the soul - it allows a person to live a long time. When we pray for a person, like for my husband (he has been suffering from an incurable disease for 20 years), as soon as a crisis occurs, we immediately turn to the priest, and amazing things happen. Father Vlasiy will pray, and from impossible situations, for example, after pulmonary edema, a heart attack, the husband returns to life again...
Valentina Bogacheva. Yes, he conducts receptions from five in the morning, and sometimes from four, until the evening. I don’t even know when he goes out to eat - I’m surprised. This is great work! Get over yourself, it’s difficult to pray alone, and it’s even worse when people come one after another... And each person comes with their own problems, and we need to help everyone.
You know, I myself rarely go to my father. When I see people waiting in line at Father Blasius’s cell, and many of them have very difficult problems, I think: I can wait a little longer, I don’t need to take up other people’s time. Let those who are in greater need be able to get to Father Blasius...

Svetlana Dukhovnikova. Yes. When we start telling him that we stood in line for so long—10 hours—we couldn’t get to him, he says: “We didn’t stand...” “Well, yes, yes, we sat.” “Well, but you Aren't you tired?" - “No, we’re not tired, father!” - “What should we do? If you want, you can get there.”
“To get to the priest, you need the will of God.” An acquaintance tried to get to Father Vlasiy several times. He is an intelligent man, his grandmothers did not even allow him to go to confession.
Svetlana Dukhovnikova. You shouldn’t be offended by grandmothers - in fact, you need to educate yourself, pray the day before, fast, and receive communion. Only by the will of God do we come to him... Father Vlasiy accepts absolutely any people, sometimes he scolds someone, but no one is offended by him: he instructs a person so that he will feel better later.
Once, when my husband and I were not yet married, I was going to see my father and thought that we probably should get married. And the priest tells me in confession: “You will get married.” And I told him: “What are you saying, father, I’m not ready.” Then Father Vlasiy said: “You need to get married so that your children will be protected by the Lord.” But my husband and I don’t have children together, and I began to contradict the priest, but he said: “We need to get married.” I cried for two days because I could not disobey my spiritual father. In general, my husband and I got married in joy...
We always take a blessing even to go to some monastery, but we don’t always manage to get to Father Blasius. Last year I took my granddaughter to the dacha without asking for a blessing. She got sick. A week later she recovered, and we, taught by bitter experience, came to the priest, took the blessing and had a wonderful summer.
— Tell us a memorable episode connected with your father Vlasiy?
Svetlana Dukhovnikova. There are a lot of episodes, and each of them is poignant.
I asked God for grandchildren for a very long time. And now I have a granddaughter, Milana, we chose the name ourselves. We came to the priest before she was baptized, and the priest said: “There is Saint Melania, her memorial day is January 13.” That's how we christened the girl.
There was such an episode. I used to smoke, for about fifteen years. I came to my father for the first time, and he told me: “Oh, you’re such a smoking room!.. You’re wearing “tiktak” (sucking lollipops) - he immediately found out about this bad habit of mine. I went out, took a pill in my mouth and left. I decided to light a cigarette, but the cigarette wouldn’t smoke... I thought: okay, I was worried, now I’ll eat - I always want to smoke after eating. I ate, took up a cigarette again - again I can’t smoke... And after that I haven’t smoked for many years.
Every time I come to Father Vlasiy, he asks: do you smoke? I say "No. And once I was on vacation in the south, and when I returned, I came here to the monastery, to the priest. He asks me again: “Do you smoke?” “No, father, you told me: ‘don’t,’ and I don’t smoke.” And he said to me: “Yes, yes, he’s coming,” he moved his nose like this, as if inhaling the smell, while copying my voice and manners: “someone definitely smokes Herzegovina Flor...”. I laughed, I had already forgotten that in the south, without realizing it, I mechanically inhaled the smell of someone’s cigarette and identified the brand. But for some reason the priest felt this situation and reproduced it for me. It was very funny.
It happens that we go to him, and he starts singing some song to us, maybe in a foreign language. Father Vlasiy knows many foreign languages, and can probably speak any of them. If a person comes to him and speaks Russian, but he himself is of a different nationality, then the priest begins to talk to him in his native language.

Svetlana Dukhovnikova. He has the most wonderful sense of humor. One day I come to him with my husband and say: “Father, bless me, my husband has decided to learn to play the guitar.” He says: “I bless you.” He immediately sang us some song. Then I came again, but alone. I came in, and the priest began to show how my husband plays the guitar and what song he sings. It is surprising that at this time he was studying this particular song. Can this be somehow explained from a scientific point of view?.. Impossible.
Valentina Bogacheva. He is so smiling and cheerful. Sometimes you come to him with some kind of wariness, even fear, but he will receive you with such love as your dear and most caring father, he will talk. You leave him simply happy.
He is a great man, we are very lucky to have him. People come to him from everywhere, and we are nearby. At work, almost everyone went to see him, including the heads of the district, because we all walk under God and turn to Him in difficult situations. Maybe it was hidden before, but not now. The advice of such a person is very important for each of us.
- Because we lack wisdom...
Valentina Bogacheva. And sometimes you need to stop and think. I am surprised how the priest can feel a person from the first meeting. One day a man asked me to take him to Father Vlasiy about his son, who was living poorly with his wife. We go into the cell, and I say: “Father Vlasiy, we are coming to you on such and such a question,” the man added: “I brought a photograph of my son.” And the priest answers him: “I don’t need your photograph, I can immediately say that your son is walking, and that’s why there are problems in the family...”. And we just crossed the threshold. That is, the priest feels a person so much - he simply takes away.
Or another case. One woman wanted to buy a house, but for a long time she could not do it. Then she went to the priest, he told her: “If you buy a house, you’ll live on the rails.” After some time, she bought herself a house. And when they began to look at the documents, it turned out that railway rails were actually used in the construction of this house.
— What kind of relationships develop between people who come to Father Vlasiy?
Svetlana Dukhovnikova. When you come to the Pafnutievsky Monastery, you understand: they won’t hurt you here, they will only teach you, guide you, and you will go and tell this to other people. You come here to communicate with people whom, perhaps, you would never meet in your life in a big city or somewhere else. Here, when people meet, they have common topics of conversation, because faith unites us and the priest unites us. Father Blasius always says: “When you arrive at the monastery, go not to me, but to the Lord. First pray to Him, and then, if you want, come to me. The miracle worker is not me, but the Lord. Everything is in His hands. “And I can only ask and pray for you.”
