The full text of the akathist to Saint Sampson Sivers and the 3 most powerful prayers

Prayer to Saint Sampson helps to get rid of illnesses, find a roof over your head, and gives consolation in sorrows. The monk received such grace from God for his holy life and great desire to help people.

The future saint was born in Rome and came from a rich and noble family. Thanks to this, he was able to receive an excellent education and study to become a doctor. However, the holy Venerable Sampson the Host directed his mind and knowledge not towards his own enrichment, but towards free service to his neighbors. Left an orphan, he distributed all his wealth to those in need, and went to serve God in Constantinople. There he opened a shelter for the poor, where he provided them with a roof over their heads and treated them without charging for it. Soon the rumor about the miraculous prayers to Elder Sampson spread throughout the surrounding area, and the local patriarch ordained him as a priest.

August 24 is the day of remembrance of Elder Hieroschemamonk Sampson Sivers

Miracles at the grave of the Holy Elder Sampson

On the territory of the churchyard there is the grave of the Holy Elder Sampson.

He was the son of a count and was friends with Emperor Nicholas II. In 1917 The young man takes monastic vows and becomes monk Alexander. In 1922 In the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, the monk takes monastic vows again and becomes a hierodeacon with the name Simeon (Sampson). He suffered many arrests, imprisonments and ordeals. Sampson died of cancer in 1979.

During his lifetime, the elder was the spiritual mentor of a large number of monks and lay people. After the burial of the martyr, miracles of healing began to occur at his grave.

Thanks to his prayers, one can receive healing from deadly diseases. The elder especially asks for the children, for finding work, housing and other everyday difficulties. The main thing in this is faith, coming from the whole heart.

There are many testimonies of miracles that occurred at the grave of the Holy Elder Sampson. Here are some of them:

  • A desperate woman with a small child in her arms asked the elder to help restore relations with her husband and return him to the family. Thanks to Father Sampson's prayers, her life improved.
  • The young woman asked in prayers to relieve her of constant headaches, the cause of which doctors could not find. Help, she said, arrived immediately.
  • There is a lot of evidence of the elder’s help in finding and buying a home.
  • A man, while on a business trip in the Leningrad region, fell from a height. Diagnosis: compound fracture of the calcaneus. The hospital said surgery and a plate would be needed. All this time the young man fervently prayed to the elder. As a result, it was possible to simply apply plaster.
  • Helped me get out of a long-term depression.
  • There is evidence of recovery from drug addiction and alcoholism.
  • Father helps get rid of ailments for which doctors are powerless: radiculitis, infertility, bronchial asthma, arthritis, oncology.
  • It helps even pets cope with illness.
  • Helps everyone in need find decent work.

All these miracles can be treated differently. Some will say it's just a coincidence, others will believe it. And it’s all about faith. An ardent believer who offers prayer to a saint with all his heart can really receive help.

But don't go to extremes. There are situations, especially when it comes to a person’s physical and mental health, when the lack of professional help can end in tragedy. Oncology is one such topic. Miracles of cure are most likely defects in the diagnosis of the disease. Faith is faith, but you shouldn’t forget about common sense.

Ikos 5

Seeing that he had fallen into an unhealed illness, King Justinian called upon many of the most skillful doctors: but for those who were unable to heal him, cry out with tears to God, diligently asking for healing. Moreover, having mercy, the Lord, in a night vision, showed him you, Father, as a gracious physician, able to heal him; and the king, warm with faith, called you, with a tender kiss and with tears, prayed that through you he would be healed, and therefore be healthy. Knowing this, we call to you, venerable one: Rejoice, servant of the Most High King, His prosperous messenger to the earthly king; Rejoice, all-round physician, who miraculously healed the ailing king’s illness through healing grace. Rejoice, comforter of the sorrowful, fill the joys that flow to you; Rejoice, joy of the faithful, who brought joy in the Lord to the king and his people through healing. Rejoice, wondrous one without money, you have renounced the rich gifts of the king, gold and silver; Rejoice, most merciful and hospitable to strangers, who moved the king’s heart to create a host of strangers and a physician. Rejoice, wonderful builder, having no gold and silver, creating a monastery enriched for the sick and poor; Rejoice, you who loved the poor and who served most in your monastery even to the end. Rejoice, Sampson, merciful father and wonderful physician.

Miracle Prayer to Sampson

The Monk Samson was the son of noble and wealthy Romans. He received a good education, studied the art of medicine and helped the sick for free. After the death of his parents, he released the slaves and was going to go into the desert. But, by the will of the Lord, Sampson ended up in Constantinople, where, settling in a modest home, he treated and helped the sick, the poor and wanderers. The Lord blessed him and gave him the power to work miracles. Sampson healed the sick not only with medical knowledge, but also with the power of the divine word. Rumor of Sampson's Prayer

spread widely in Constantinople. Soon, by decree of the Patriarch, Sampson became a priest.

Miracle healings from prayer to Sampson

One day, the seriously ill Emperor Justinian had a vision that his healing was possible, and he could receive it through Saint Sampson. The saint was summoned to the emperor, and indeed, the prayer of Hieromonk Sampson worked a miracle - the emperor immediately felt relief, and soon the illness completely disappeared. Justin wanted to thank the saint with gold, but he refused and asked, instead of thanking himself, to build a hospital for everyone and a hospice. The emperor fulfilled the request. The saint devoted his entire life to serving people. After the death of the saint, miracles of healing people also continue.

Rules of prayer

You need to pray to the priest in front of his icon. It is better to purchase it in a church shop, otherwise the printed image may differ significantly from the canonical one. Needlewomen can embroider an icon themselves. It is installed in the red corner of the house. Light a candle.

They begin praying to Sivers in the morning, following the following recommendations:

  • stay alone, tune in to the right mood;
  • read the prayer slowly, pondering its meaning;
  • have strong faith, otherwise nothing will work out.

The Elder's Memorial Day falls on August 24. The prayer offered to him at this time is the most powerful. After the assistance provided, it is worth offering words of gratitude to Father Sampson.

Saint Sampson the Host

Saint Sampson the Host is one of those who completed his earthly journey not with martyrdom, but with a quiet and painless death. He was an unmercenary doctor who set others an example of selfless love for one's neighbor and Christian charity.

Saint Sampson's parents were noble and wealthy Romans. They gave their son a good education. Sampson was attracted to medicine from his youth. Therefore, he enjoyed mastering the art of healing. He had a very important goal in life - to learn to help people with illnesses and illnesses, to heal and alleviate suffering.

After the death of his parents, the Savior Himself appeared to Sampson in a dream and gave the rich young man advice: “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your property and give it to the poor; and you will have treasure in heaven; and come and follow Me” (Matthew 19:21). Sampson distributed everything he inherited to the poor, freed all the slaves and retired to the desert to lead a strict hermit life.

But the saint did not stay long in the desert. He went to Constantinople, rented a small house, treated the sick and gave shelter to the poor and strangers. People's rumors about Sampson's virtue reached the Patriarch of Constantinople. He appreciated the merits of the unmercenary before the Lord and awarded him the rank of priest.

It so happened that the Emperor of Byzantium, Justinian I, suffered an insidious and serious illness. The court doctors were powerless to do anything. Justinian was getting worse every day. The emperor could only trust in God's mercy. One day, in a sleepy vision, Justinian heard a voice announcing that only one person could cure his illness - the disinterested doctor Sampson. The healer was immediately taken to the palace, and he healed the emperor from his illness with prayers. Grateful Justinian was ready to shower Sampson with rich gifts, but the unmercenary refused everything. He turned to the emperor with a request to build a hospital for the poor and open a hospice. Soon the ruler fulfilled the saint’s request, even assigning maintenance for this charitable institution.

Reverend Sampson died around 530. The hospice house that Justinian built became a temple, and next to it a large building was built to shelter wanderers and the disadvantaged. Hundreds and thousands of pilgrims began to come to the saint’s tomb, hoping to receive healing from the holy relics of Sampson, nicknamed the Stranger.

The Orthodox Church celebrates the Memorial Day of St. Sampson the Host on July 10 (June 27, old style).

In honor of the holy, unmercenary doctor, churches in almshouses and nursing homes are consecrated in the Christian world. The first such temple was opened a long time ago in the Constantinople almshouse at the Hagia Sophia. The founder of the temple was the holy Venerable Andrew of Crete.

You should pray to Saint Sampson the Receiver for any mental or physical ailments.

Troparion (Tone 8)

In your patience you have gained your reward, Reverend Father, in your prayers you are unceasingly patient, loving the poor and satisfied with this, but pray to Christ God, the merciful blessed Sampson, to save our souls.

Like an all-round physician and a favorable prayer book, flowing to your race, O reverend Sampson the God-Wise, coming together with love, psalms and hymns, rejoicing, we glorify Christ, giving you such grace as healing.

Oh, warm prayer book, gracious father, Reverend Sampson! Pray to God for me, a sinner, and send down help and deliverance from the All-Good Lord, for my life is temporary and full of work, sorrows and illnesses. Strengthen my heart, so that I can bear my burden, and do not let me, so that my many small strengths will overcome temptations, but help me with your intercession and, in the midst of circumstances and troubles, direct my path to the Kingdom of Heaven, so that I may glorify the Lord who is glorified in you forever. Amen.

Life of Boniface of Tarsus

Boniface was a slave of the noble Roman woman Aglaida, who lived with him in lawless cohabitation. Therefore, despite the fact that Boniface was a slave, he could indulge in idleness, drunkenness and fornication, sinning with Aglaida herself.

At the same time, Aglaida and Boniface were compassionate and pious people. They did not refuse the suffering, gave shelter to wanderers, Boniface was happy to serve anyone in need and did not boast of his special status. Moreover, he often asked the Lord to help him overcome temptations.

At that time, persecution of Christians was already in full swing in the East. Aglaida, in search of salvation from the passions tormenting her soul, decided to turn for help to the relics of the martyr, who could become her patron in earthly life.

To do this, she asked Boniface to go to the East and bring the holy relics. Boniface, either jokingly or with a presentiment, replied that he might not find relics, or that he might become a martyr himself. He asked his beloved if she would then accept his body with honor.

Aglaida took the question as a bad joke, saying that it was inappropriate to mock such things, and he and she were unworthy not only to touch, but also to look at the relics of those who died for their faith in Christ. Having blessed Bonifatius on his way, Aglaida did not yet know that she was seeing him alive for the last time.

Boniface led a rich caravan, taking with him a fair amount of gold, guards and companions. The pagans traded the bodies of Christians, selling them for a lot of money. Linens, incense and oils were taken to preserve the remains.

On the way, Boniface was tormented by what he heard from Aglaida. He realized that he was unworthy for the great work and salvation. Having reached the city of Tarsus, he separated from his companions, which was extremely unsafe, and for the first time saw the torment of Christians, marveling at the fortitude of their spirit.

Boniface was shocked by the horrors of torture and rushed to the martyrs, began to kiss their feet and asked them to remember him in their holy prayers. The judge asked Boniface who he was. Boniface publicly announced that he was a Christian. He also refused to sacrifice to idols. After which he was handed over to torture. The reprisal was severe - he was tortured for 2 days and then killed. According to eyewitnesses, blood and milk flowed from his wounds. A hitherto unprecedented miracle converted one and a half thousand people to Christianity.

His companions, who believed that Bonifatius had gone on a spree somewhere, heard about the miracle that had occurred, and were able to obtain and butter his body. The caravan moved back.

Even before the caravan arrived in Rome, the Angel of the Lord appeared to Aglaida, informing her that Boniface was now not a slave, but her master, their brother and co-servant. And that she should honor Boniface as the protector of life and guardian of the soul.

After the return of the caravan with the relics of Bonifatius, Aglaida erected a temple for the relics of her lover 10 miles from Rome, distributed the property to the poor, renounced her status and lived at the temple for another 18 years. During this time, the relics and the temple showed many miracles.

Orthodoxy or death
...We all live in idleness. And idleness is an infinite degree of disruption of the state of walking in the presence of God. We become so distracted by our passions, habits and ordinary life that we forget about walking in the presence of God. But the end has come, the time to give an account - and now it’s hard and painful and scary. I think this is true for everyone! Some people take care of their vacations, others take care of their apartments, others take up some hobby and lose the feeling of “being in themselves.” You will notice that when we pray, we do not always pray with all our consciousness, although often with our minds. How the monks prayed; they prayed from the heart, through the mind, with all their consciousness, with all their presence. As we usually say, “in all seriousness.”

As St. Seraphim of Sarov tells. It’s as if outside the body: crying and sobbing, and then triumphant and rejoicing, giving thanks. One thing after another will definitely follow.

This is the sweetest thing on earth, this is the Christian state, it is precisely the cause of joy on earth, the only joy, and meaningful existence on earth.

Have you ever asked yourself: why can’t I pray today, having risen from sleep? The head is rested, the bones are rested, nothing hurts. Why don’t I want to pray, why is it difficult for me to pray, is mother laziness still inside me after seven hours of sleep or more. Of course, we need to look for the reason in something else. Laziness has nothing to do with it. This means reproaches of conscience from an unclean heart. So, you need to quickly sit down at the table, take a pencil and paper and remember what happened, what did I say bad yesterday, in the afternoon or evening, what did I think bad? Or that I want bad things? What deprives me of the ability and right to pray? You won't forget, right? The ability and right to pray, right?

It happens that we are capable, but we do not have the right. We don’t want to forgive someone, and we can’t forgive, and we don’t try to forgive, right? We're vindictive, right?

“Father, well, we shouldn’t pray at this time if we are capable, but don’t have the right?”

- No, write this down for confession. By the fact that you wrote this down on a note to your confessor, you are writing to God, you already begin to have the right to pray. This sacrament begins to take place. Firstly, you record your repentance, your self-condemnation. Your intention to bring repentance to God. Your intention is to dishonor yourself before a person and thereby receive forgiveness. You record your intention to curse the sin that you write. And you begin not to read, but to pray, to mourn repentantly, confirming your entry. This is the psychology of communion with God.

And if we know that we have offended or upset a person, and we remember and know that he probably cannot pray because he is offended, if he did not come to his senses and did not find the strength to justify and excuse me, then he does not pray. He's darkened, right?

He is not a Christian today. His Guardian Angel left him. And it's my fault.

No, no feats of fasting, mercy, almsgiving, or liturgy will help. You must be reconciled with God, realize your sin, have an intention and hurry at the first opportunity to ask for forgiveness as quickly as possible. This is Christianity. That's why it's so difficult for a proud person to make peace with God, right? because he cannot say: “forgive me” to a person like himself.

This is our whole problem - this is our damned pride. Self-love is the cause of all troubles; eternal life and eternal salvation depend on it. Why do the holy fathers say that where there is no humility, there is no salvation. Let him be a faster, let him be some kind of prayer book in his own way, right? Reading out kathismas and akathists will not help! He will wear chains, he will sleep on the floor - it will not help! It will be fanaticism.

And so, in fact, the Lord gave us a law in the Gospel - the Beatitudes, right? It doesn’t say: fast, put on chains, feed lice, don’t bathe, don’t take off your underwear, wash once a year; This is not indicated anywhere: light lamps, candles - there is no such thing.

“Blessed is the merciful, blessed is the pure in heart, blessed is the poor in spirit,” right? “Blessedness is the purity of heart” - this is especially wonderful. It embraces the first, and the second, and the third commandments... purity, by the way, and “blessed be the beggar...” This is not only carnal purity, no, it is purity of the heart!

Do you have the right to pray, do you love everyone? Forgave everyone? This is a pure heart, and if he is evil, an evil heart, it means that in no case will he be able to pray, he is an enemy of God, and a friend of the demon.

- Father, what if a person is sure that he loves, although, if you look at his actions, he doesn’t love anyone at all?

- It seems to him from his selfishness, from his pride, from his big “I” about himself.

- What about psychologically? So he is sure that he loves people.

“You see what’s the matter, a very simple thing - such a person does not have sacrifice.”

- And it seems to me that I love a person...

“As I just said, this can only be verified through sacrifice.”

- How will they judge?

- By deeds, by deeds of our heart, and not by deeds of the act. Show your deeds, not your mood...

You must begin your day by praying. From prayerful work comes knowledge of God, knowledge of God. Knowledge of God cannot be acquired through books or reading, but only through prayer, crying and crying, short little prayers.

Conversing with God is fire, blazing fire. This fire cleanses, renews, revives, makes a person new, makes a completely sick person completely healthy, and he does not need any medicine. Learn to pray and you will be healthy. Prayer makes the most frail, sick person healthy, strong, resilient, and energetic. Only prayer. Of course, it’s a legitimate prayer, not just any prayer! Only Orthodox prayer is contrite and humble in spirit.

And we pray in a state of confusion, we feel that we are boldly asking and praying. We don’t want to say, “Thy will be done in all things, Thy will be done in all things.” This is our insubordination, our disobedience. When we pray in such a state, we experience a state of joylessness, restlessness - this is a barometer of prayer. And the barometer of hearing is peace, quietness, quiet joy, right? And when this quiet joy is not there, something like that was illegal. Because even sadness can be legitimate, but without a hint of pagan despair.

It is very difficult for me to leave some here who, in my opinion, have not had time to prepare themselves for eternal joy! I prepare myself for this every day. I look at them and I cry bitterly that I don’t dare show myself to these people, because they didn’t show energy and persistence in time, right? From faith. Rebuild yourself, overcome yourself, remake yourself. I pampered myself, put it off until later, they say, I’ll have time.

This is how I offered and offer the akathist “Assumption of the Mother of God” at twelve o’clock. That is, have dinner at nine o’clock, put yourself to bed, sleep for two hours, set the alarm for twelve o’clock, read the usual beginning, prayers: “To the Heavenly King,” and so on. Then sing, read three times “Behold the Bridegroom is coming at midnight,” and read the akathist to the Dormition of the Mother of God. The akathist is long, difficult - nothing! This is praise, the only praise that is written with real, truly greatness to the Mother of God. There is no equal on earth to the akathist to the Dormition of the Mother of God! With a long prayer, which is on four pages. And read slowly, with humility, on your knees. And then read “It is worthy to eat, as in truth”, “Through the prayers of our holy fathers”, undress and go to sleep. And so on for a year until Easter week.

Easter week frees us from the Assumption Akathist. And on Fomina Week, the Assumption Akathist again.

But keep it secret from everyone, like a secret feat, a personal secret, so that the demons on their tail do not somehow cover you up with the masks of vanity. Remember that the demon will certainly frighten you, frighten you and interfere, just to take away this only clue from you. And you will see that with the akathist to the Mother of God you will gradually change everything.

At 12 o'clock at night, and so on - all night And so - all your life! All life! And you ask: “When are we sick in bed?” And ask one of your spiritual friends to try to read the akathist too. “Come, read me an akathist to the Mother of God for the night.” After the bedtime prayers, let the akathist read. Gradual reading of prayers will involuntarily force the memory to know this akathist by heart. No matter who reads, you will still read] in your own way, right? And someone else’s reading will not interfere with the heart’s assimilation of the text of the akathist. Dormition of the Mother of God. And so on until death. You will be very rich. There are no richer people on earth like this. What are our earthly riches?! This is garbage - as someone said, manure.

Well, if they don’t listen to this, I don’t know. If I were in their place, I would apply the last measure - alms, alms ransom: sins, alms beg for the forgiveness of sins. Try to convince such people, teach them to sell everything, give everything away and look for how to give it yourself, but, of course, not to the rich, but to those in need. This is the basic, first task - to look for these needy poor people and spend money on them.

There were such foolish saints of God, ascetics of the 18th century: they took their property to the market and sold it in order to give this money in alms. How cunning they were! all morning they stand at the market, selling their skirts, their shirts, their various possessions - their lanterns, kerosene lamps. He sells the samovar to earn, say, 2.5 rubles and give it to some old woman. These people will be saved by alms!

Holy Fathers are children of the Grace of the Holy Spirit. And the consequences of this action of grace are when the heart justifies. It loves, it can speak well of him and it can pray for him. It does not remember resentment and evil.

Because it is impossible to forgive and not justify. It's psychologically true. This is how the heart works. Not the brain, not the nervous system, as science tries to teach, and psychiatrists in particular, but this is how the heart is designed by God. This is called a Christian heart. It will justify, it will find everything to justify, to excuse, right? And it immediately loves, immediately prays for him and wishes him only good things. And this is a Christian property.

A drunkard, a fornicator, a proud person - he will receive the mercy of God, but whoever does not want to forgive, excuse, justify and consciously - this person crosses himself out for eternal Eternity before God, especially now. He is rejected and unheard.

- This is a property of Christianity, can it be innate or does it need to be developed?

- Not only to produce. It is from the Holy Spirit. There is an innate property from the character of the parents, but Christian properties are the properties of the Spirit, not the soul.

— It can’t already be innate?

- No. This is already the illumination of the Holy Spirit through the sacraments, through the prayers of parents, especially mothers.

“And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors” - this is the only condition for hearing, for salvation. Nothing formal can buy God! The law of God is an absolute law! This is why it is so painful and difficult for us when we meet non-Christian souls, hearts that do not have the intention, not even the desire, not only the ability, to forgive. “What,” you ask, “why can’t you forgive?” - “Because they don’t love me, and I won’t love you!”

The worst thing is not to forgive and not to love. And be at enmity with your heart. These are three main reasons. The Lord will forgive a fornicator, a robber, a thief, a Pharisee, but He will not forgive such a soul.

Our readings of akathists, canons, Psalms, and Gospels are all empty if they do not make us soft, tender, loving, and weeping. This reading will only serve as a condemnation for us.

A contrite and humble spirit does not know how to be at enmity and cannot be able to be at enmity; it will forgive to the last, excuse to the bottom and will only judge itself, will look for endless guilt in itself. He will forgive and forgive any person, even a shooter or torturer. There have been terrible events in my life, and somehow everything was forgiven with ease! It is enough to pray to the Mother of God, and it will be removed. It can be removed if you ask the Mother of God. It is enough to have direct contact of the heart with the Mother of God, and this horror - resentment and insult, and sadness, and vain - it is removed.

At the time of applying to join the party, Eduard-Sergius doubted his religious beliefs. After confirming his faith, he decided not to continue the process of joining the CPSU (b). Being the head of the club, he began to openly visit the temple. It is likely that Sivers met the Bishop of Tikhvin here. Perhaps he had it. From the life of the saint

Sampson was born in 1898. His worldly name was Edward. He received his first religious experience from his English mother. His grandfather was a famous icon painter. His icons can be seen in St. Petersburg. One of them accompanied the hieromonk throughout his life. Since childhood, Sivers showed a craving for the church, for the Lord. It manifested itself as follows:

  • visited churches of different faiths;
  • read spiritual literature in different languages;
  • was constantly present at liturgies;
  • I prayed a lot.

I repeated the prayer “For every time and every hour” 100-200 times a day. When he was wondering which faith was more truthful, during a prayer service an insight came to him. He converted to Orthodoxy in secret from his family, so as not to upset his mother.

After Confirmation was performed on Sivers and he received communion, he received the name Sergius. He became a novice at the Savvo-Krypetsky Monastery when he met the monks of this monastery. The monk gave very deep sermons that did not leave anyone indifferent.

But the civil war began. In 1919, armed Bolsheviks came to the elder’s cell and captured him. He was kept in prison for about 22 days and, together with the bandits, was taken out to be shot. Going to his death, the monk had no fear, because he trusted only in the will of the Lord. He was not killed; he was only wounded in the arm.

In 1922, Sergius took monastic vows with the name Simeon. That same year he was appointed hierodeacon. And soon Sivers became a hieromonk. Father was also the treasurer, so he had all the keys to the storerooms.

Reverend Sampson the Host

The chambers of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian were stuffy, twilight reigned, and smelled of overseas medicines. The patient’s heavy, intermittent breathing could be heard: a fatal illness had confined the ruler to his bed. All his numerous doctors threw up their hands: they could do nothing to help the emperor. There was only one hope left: the dying Justinian began to earnestly, with tears, pray to God, asking Him for help and salvation. One day, dozing off from exhaustion, the ruler saw in a dream a humble man dressed as a priest, about whom Justinian was told that only he could heal the emperor. As soon as the monarch woke up, he immediately sent his servants to look for the wonderful doctor; They walked all over Constantinople, but could not find him. Then one of the royal servants remembered his friend the doctor, priest Sampson. Justinian ordered that they quickly find him and bring him to the palace. The emperor immediately recognized the healer promised in a dream in Sampson and joyfully hugged him. With one touch of his hand, Sampson healed the sick king. Grateful Justinian was ready to give the one who cured him everything that Sampson asked for, offering him a lot of gold and silver. But the modest doctor refused the generous gifts. The only thing he asked Justinian to do was to build a hospice house and a hospital for the residents of Constantinople. The emperor gladly fulfilled the healer's request: he built a large magnificent building, which became known as Sampson's Hospice House.

Reverend Sampson the Host was born in Rome into the family of a wealthy patrician. Since childhood, the boy dreamed of how he would help the sick and suffering, and for this he strove to get a good medical education. And his cherished wish came true: Sampson became one of the most qualified doctors of his time, and many patients came to him with their ailments and injuries. He treated everyone free of charge, and the young doctor settled those who needed long-term care in his vast estate, providing them not only with shelter, food and treatment, but also with consolation in prayer and the most tender care.

When his parents died, Sampson set all his slaves free, wanting to serve other people. He also distributed his inheritance to the poor and needy, fulfilling in practice the advice given by the Savior to the rich young man: “if you want to be perfect, go, sell your property and give it to the poor; and you will have treasure in Heaven.”

Soon Sampson moved to the capital of Byzantium - Constantinople. Here he settled in a poor hut and led a very simple and modest life. Many patients visited the famous doctor, especially those who were abandoned by other doctors: lepers, the blind, the paralyzed, the possessed. The fame of Sampson spread throughout Constantinople. The desperate, who had previously spent all their funds on useless medicines, received healing from his healing art and prayers. Hearing about Sampson’s godly life, the Patriarch of Constantinople called him to himself and ordained him as a priest.

After the healing of the emperor, Sampson took over the leadership of the Hospice House of Constantinople, built at his request by Justinian. It had a well-equipped hospital, with an outpatient clinic and a hospital, consisting of various departments: surgical, infectious diseases, maternity and others. Professional doctors worked in the hospital, and experienced monks cared for the patients. In addition to the sick, all beggars and vagabonds were received here, giving them shelter and food. Emperor Justinian donated several estates to the Hospice House to pay for its maintenance.

Until a very old age, the Reverend Sampson the Host selflessly and diligently served his neighbors. And to this day, miraculous healings are performed through his prayers.
