Story
Vladykino is one of the oldest villages near Moscow. All its owners, by virtue of their origin, were deeply religious people. They always took care of the temple located in the village. According to the customs of that time, the church building had to be made of wood, and when it fell into disrepair, it was replaced by another.
The first owner, and then the village was called Velyaminovo, was Prince Daniil of Moscow. He is known as the son of Alexander Nevsky. But in 1619, Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich granted the village to Dmitry Pozharsky, and four years later - to Prince Shuisky. It was under the latter that the Church of the Virgin Mary was built in Vladykino, which rose to replace the dilapidated church bearing the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. Soon the village, which became the Patriarch's patrimony near Moscow, received its new name - Vladykino.
A few years later, a patriarchal travel palace was built here, and another temple nearby. Patriarchs came to Vladykino more than once. His Holiness Nikon, Joachim, and then Adrian listened to the Divine Liturgy here. On May 19, 1690, Tsar Peter Alekseevich also came to the village. He also visited the temple in Vladykino. According to the chronicle, he also attended the Divine Liturgy in honor of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Current view
Many icons, to which parishioners who came to the church in Vladykino reverently prayed, have survived to this day. They saw the kings and patriarchs of Moscow. Among the icons are images of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, as well as St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, the famous Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God. Believers have been revering and praying before them for four hundred years.
With the abolition of the patriarchate, the village of Vladykino, by personal decree of the Holy Synod in August 1722, was given to Feofan, the Archbishop of Pskov. He often visited here, living for a long time in his yard, located next to the church. In the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the active assistant of Peter and the head of the Synod was often present at the Divine Liturgy. Presumably, it was at this time that the wooden church building was first moved from the left bank of the river to the right, and then back to the place where it stands today.

First stone church
The Church of the Nativity (Vladykino) was built of stone in 1770. The bell tower was erected by Count K. Razumovsky, the owner of a neighboring village called Petrovskoye. The icons were transferred to the monastery of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary from the abolished church in the village of Nikolskoye. Count Razumovsky also built a stone chapel over a well located near the temple. They say that the holy monastery stood on a hill, and nearby in a ravine there was a spring, which has long been considered special among the local population. It was above it that Razumovsky built the chapel. However, in the twenties of the last century, the latter was destroyed. The chapel itself was completely dismantled due to its dilapidation, and its bricks were used in the church fence.
Shrines
Local laity call the church blessed, since it could not be closed even during the harsh Soviet period for Orthodoxy. The structure also avoided being hit by German shells, although their guns were located in close proximity. There was a village around the church; not a single building was damaged by the war.
Iconostasis of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary
The icons “Quick to Hear” and “Hodegetria” kept here, images of Basil the Great and St. Nicholas the Pleasant, as well as particles of their relics are held in great esteem.
Reconstruction
In the mid-nineteenth century, the stone church in Vladykino, by that time already very dilapidated, required major reconstruction. It was decided not to repair, but to erect a new church building. Then, in 1854, Gavriil Matveevich Tolokonnikov, a representative of the famous family of the same name, famous for its doctors, teachers and engineers, donated huge funds for the construction of a new three-altar church. The patron himself took an active part in the construction.
The work was carried out on the basis of a project authored by the architect A.F. Yaroshevsky. They began in 1854, and five years later, in February 1859, the refectory with side chapels was consecrated: to the south - Archangel Michael, to the north - Archangel Gabriel, who was the heavenly patron of the creator of the temple.
Changes in the project
The main altar was consecrated by Metropolitan Philaret of Moscow. The priest in those years was Archpriest Vasily, who himself took part in the construction of the new monastery. The parishioners believed that if not for him, the bishop’s people would not have seen the stone church. Initially, the church was supposed to be built much larger than today's one. However, Rector Vasily, taking into account the small number of his parish and at the same time fearing that the patron of arts Gabriel Matveevich, due to his advanced age, would not have time to complete the construction, persuaded the latter to begin constructing the building in a more modest size - in the form that it is today. It must be said that his fears were not in vain. Tolokonnikov died literally a few weeks after the consecration of the monastery.
Current state
In the middle of the 20th century, Archpriest Nikolai was the rector of the church; 10 years later he was replaced by Father Pavel, who ordered the installation of a metal frame with gilding on the altar. In the 1970s local authorities tried to demolish the Nativity Church for the sake of development of Altufevskoye Highway, but the parishioners managed to defend the rights to the ancient building.
During this period, the temple was headed by Archpriest Matthew, who became famous as a great preacher of Christian teaching. In 1978, Abbot Simeon ordered the restoration of the church, and soon the baptismal chapel of St. Philaret was built and consecrated. A shop, a prosphora shop, and a Sunday school were also opened here.
Simeon was replaced in 2003 by Archpriest Sergius, who opened a new era in the formation of the Nativity Church. The parishioners treat the new and past archpastors with great love. The church gates are open every day, services are held here as scheduled.
