Finding a job through friends. When to do it and when not to do it...
Looking for a job through well-known people or, even better, friends is always easy and pleasant: you don’t need to guess whether the HR manager is interested in your resume, you don’t need to go through long multi-stage interviews, and in general, there is usually only one interview - with the future immediate supervisor . Who smiles benevolently and offers coffee. The result (if, of course, you are a more or less worthy candidate) is predictable: your candidacy, supported by excellent recommendations from a friend, is successfully approved. Therefore, there’s really nothing to write about finding a job through friends.
It’s a completely different matter to look for work through people who are neither your friends nor close acquaintances. Such a person may be a former classmate whom you have not seen since graduation or a neighbor from your previous place of residence. This could even be a friend of your friend, with whom you personally have no common affairs: he simply knows about your existence, and you know about his. You are “friends” on social networks, but when you meet on the street, the most you can do is smile politely at each other or nod.
However, all of these people may work for companies that may be of potential interest to you as an employer. And if you are currently actively looking for work, there is a reasonable desire to take advantage of existing, albeit very ephemeral, connections. What's the best way to do this?
The first thing you need to remember when turning to a stranger for help is that this is help, and only you need it. He has no personal interest in your employment, unless, of course, their company has a “refer a friend - get a bonus” rule. Moreover, if you do not impress the employer with your successes - at an interview or already in the process of work - this may negatively affect him: we like the saying “Tell me who your friend is...”. Therefore, no matter how super-specialized you are, you need to start the conversation carefully, formulating your request exactly as a request.
However, before even starting a conversation with someone on such a topic, you should thoroughly prepare the ground. Let's consider the situation.
Accountant Petrova asked logistician Ivanov to find out if there were any vacancies in the accounting department of the company where he works. From the point of view of logistician Ivanov, the accounting department is already overcrowded: there are five people sitting there, it’s unclear what they’re doing, and if you ask for an invoice, you’ll have to wait until lunch; you see, they don’t have time before. Of course, Ivanov will refuse Petrova’s request. Even if she persuades him to “ask around,” he asks around—in the smoking room, with the assistant accountant, and, if he’s lucky, with the personnel officer. Well, don’t meddle with the chief accountant herself about such trifles! And in 90% of cases the answer will be the same - no, there are no available vacancies, and none are expected.
Meanwhile, if Petrova had previously collected information on work sites, the outcome of the situation could have been completely different. Because the chief accountant Sidorova just yesterday was confirmed with the budget for the sixth accountant, and she personally, not trusting the HR department (they will be looking for it before the New Year, but they need a person urgently!), posted a vacancy on the Internet. Petrova’s candidacy could not have come at a more opportune time. And it would be difficult for Ivanov to get rid of an old acquaintance if he received from her information about an open vacancy and an excellent resume that suited all points. Even if the resume does not suit all points, Petrova’s chances would still be high: Sidorov’s chief accountant has very little free time to sort through candidates and will take the first one more or less similar to the portrait she drew. Moreover, chief accountants traditionally gravitate towards recommended candidates - “good girls whom we ourselves will teach everything.”
Thus, rule one: preparing information and instructing a friend is a necessary component of successful employment.
While reading one of the discussions on the Internet, I came across this text:
“I recently had an interview at a company. I waited forty minutes for the HR officer, and she didn’t even apologize for being late! I told her everything I thought about this. Of course, they didn’t call me back, and I myself didn’t want to work in such a place. I wouldn’t wait at all in another company, but here I was recommended by a friend who has been working there for a long time.”
It is unlikely that this acquaintance will recommend anyone else somewhere - it’s more expensive for himself. Therefore, rule two: do not harm someone who agreed to help you. There is no need to prove to the interviewer that he is wrong. There is no need to show with all your appearance that they are not treating you properly. No need to slam the door offendedly. You are free to do this in all other cases, but not in this one. Here you need to behave with extreme restraint and politeness: behind you is a person who has taken upon himself the responsibility of recommending you. In the end, you can always refuse a job offer if the employing company made a negative impression on you. Refuse politely and gracefully.
Now let’s talk about when you don’t need to contact a friend who works in the company of your dreams. Moreover, this is even dangerous, since there is a high risk of receiving an anti-recommendation from him.
If the person you turned to for help decisively refuses or avoids answering under any pretext, then you should not pursue him, he will not help you anyway. He may scold the company where he works, complain about the management, the salary, and claim that “a normal person will not work for us” - as if he was trying to dissuade you from a possible job. At the same time, his own actions indicate just the opposite: he has been working successfully in this company for a long time, suppressing any calls from headhunters.
The reasons for such behavior can be different: for example, your friend does not have a high opinion of you as a possible candidate and is not ready to give a recommendation, or, on the contrary, he sees you as a possible competitor and does not want to create problems for himself with his own hands. Perhaps the company has some information about him that you personally don’t need to know: his mistress works in the very accounting department where you, his wife’s friend, are so eager to get into. Or the fact that in fact, he does not work as a commercial director, to whom he introduces himself to his friends, but only as his deputy. There can be many reasons, the only important thing is that you do not need to rely on this contact. However, this does not mean at all that you should not try to find a job in a company that interests you.
In this case, you just need to act in the traditional way - send your resume, call and go through a series of interviews. The HR manager does not need to advertise his acquaintance with a company employee. If you happen to meet an acquaintance in the corridor, greet them politely and answer any questions directly: I was invited and I came. All. You can only hope that HR will not be interested in your friend’s opinion of you, or that this opinion will not be of decisive importance.

Name your three main characteristics
To let the recruiter know that you are a great candidate for the position, tell him about your personality traits. Select three items that would be most helpful in this position. For example: “I am excellent at generating ideas, can find a way out of any situation, and have good organizational skills.” It’s not worth talking about diligence, punctuality, willingness to solve complex problems and other things that are expected of you by default.
Pay attention to the company's corporate culture: in some places it is important that a person knows how to make friends, is charismatic and sociable. If you are applying for such a company, you can name your personal qualities. But still, more often than not, there is no need to talk about character traits: during the interview it is impossible to check how easy-to-learn, sociable, and intelligent a person you really are.

Techniques to help convince an employer to hire an applicant
There are several techniques that really help convince a potential employer to hire an applicant for a position.
- Show excellent knowledge about the company.
Studying information about a company takes a lot of time, but such knowledge pays off very well. Employers value the applicant's interest in obtaining a position at their company. Therefore, when choosing between two seemingly identical candidates, the manager will approve the one who knows more about the company. - Make it clear to the potential employer that the applicant is serious and is ready to give his best to the company.
Management values employees who stay long at work and are ready to start completing a task even on their day off. - Tell as much useful information about yourself as possible during the interview.
There is no need to go into details. You can briefly inform the potential employer about your work experience, achievements, and some super abilities that may be useful to the company. - Convince the potential employer that he was looking for just such an employee.
To do this, before the interview you should ask yourself the question: “Why should I get this position?”, and then answer it. It is recommended to prepare several arguments, which you will subsequently need to present at the interview. - Show your desire to work for the benefit of the company
. You can tell what techniques the applicant wants to use to develop the business. It is also recommended to note your readiness for self-improvement and learning. - Make it clear to the potential employer that the applicant is not a conflict-ridden person and can smooth over any dispute.
To do this, you can easily provoke the manager, and when a dispute arises, smoothly leave him. However, if a person really does not know how to resolve conflicts, then it is better to omit this technique.
It should be noted that any employer values loyalty in its employees. No wonder the great French poet Pierre Baust said:
“It is more difficult to control those who crave fame and pleasure than those who want bread.”
French poet Pierre Baust
That is, you don’t need to prove your desire to move up the career ladder as far as possible. It is necessary to show that the applicant is ready to give all his strength to the company, without demanding anything from it in return.
Show your readiness
During the interview, the recruiter evaluates not only your professional skills, but also your character traits. So, even if you don't have any past successes or unique abilities to tell, show that you're willing to learn and grow. Tell us why you want to work in this particular position and in this company. Share your plans for the future. Maybe you're looking to move up to a more senior position and take your business to the next level? Speak with enthusiasm and dedication, then the interviewer will definitely appreciate your zeal.
The recipe is always the same: be only yourself, so that later you don’t have to pretend to be anything if they take you.

How to find a job with the help of friends
Here are some tips that will allow you to solve your employment problem with the help of your friends.
Helping you should be easy
Remember that your contacts, especially those who can really help you find a job, are probably extremely busy with their own affairs. Their inbox is never empty, and a request for help may go unanswered simply because it requires reading the email, analyzing the situation, understanding what help can be provided, and finally taking the necessary action. Make their job easier by making the request as simple and clear as possible, and your chances of getting help will increase significantly.
If you are interested in the recipient's useful contacts, do not ask about whom it would be useful for you to meet. To begin, formulate the purpose of your search and decide who exactly from your contact list you need. And then find such a person yourself through LinkedIn and other social networks. Now you can turn to the help of your friend and ask to introduce you to a specific person.
If you are looking for vacancies rather than connections, consider writing a text that can later be forwarded to people who can influence your employment process. Your contact may already know most of the facts described in the text, but it is thanks to this that other people will be able to learn about your personal and professional qualities. Highlight your strengths and indicate what type of job you are looking for. Here is an example of such text:
I am considering manager or supervisor positions in the financial analysis and planning department and am willing to accept the responsibilities of budget management, budget planning, financial forecasting and reporting. I see the most successful work that requires not only my accounting skills, since I consider working with IT to be my strongest point. During my work, I had to manage IT personnel and determine the course of future activities of the entire department. Currently, my experience in the financial industry is nine full years and includes insurance services, banking, marketing and logistics. I am interested in any activity as long as my responsibilities include working with documentation and analytics.
Your goals must be clear
When you ask for help, simply stating the problem may not be enough. Offer ready-made solutions that you might need outside help to implement. This will show your enthusiasm and can be a catalyst for reciprocal offers from your contact.
If you don't know how your problem can be solved and want to expand your understanding of the situation, focus on this point. And don't forget the first tip - it should be easy to help you, don't force the recipient to read more than two paragraphs of the email. Explain the nature of the question and provide other details; you can provide additional information in subsequent questions.
If you take the problems of your contacts seriously and provide real help, then you have every right to expect the same from them. Remember this, but also remember to be polite and grateful.
Reminders are required
The main task of networking is to create a network of contacts with two-way benefits. Remind yourself if you do not receive a response. The waiting period directly depends on how closely you know your contact
If you receive advice or a list of steps to take, make sure you do everything you can to implement them. Do it quickly, demonstrate your desire to solve your own problem. There is nothing worse than helping someone who is simply trying to shift their difficulties onto you.
There will come a time when your problem is solved and the desired result is achieved. Share your joy and talk about the results - this is an important step that many people miss out of ignorance. Expressing gratitude will strengthen existing relationships and make it clear that the assistance provided was not in vain.
Strategies for recruiting young professionals
All employees of any company and corporation, successful and high-ranking today, were once students who began to look for a place in the sun...
Large corporations, both domestic and Western, are developing large-scale programs to attract young specialists, their subsequent adaptation and successful professional growth. Small firms and enterprises are not very willing to hire a “theorist” who has recently graduated from a university. This is explained by the fact that employees of such companies have neither the time nor the desire to spend energy on a “young fighter course” for beginners, and there is no talk of creating a special department at all. If a recruitment agency is tasked with finding a young specialist, then often after a while the customer raises the “bar” and reports that he still needs a specialist, albeit with minimal experience.
In this case, there is a certain risk: a new employee may be active enough to defend his point of view and his vision of the problem, and the established team does not always adequately perceive the attempt of a newcomer, still a “green” employee, to change the usual course of affairs, even if these changes will be positive. When selecting candidates, one of the main factors, in addition to a diploma from a prestigious university, is knowledge of the language, in particular English, and less often, another foreign language. Of course, business skills are also welcome.
We're going to get a job
A resume plays an important role when applying for a job.
If you are looking for a job, first decide on your desires: what exactly do you want to get in the end? If the answer to this question is vague and very vague, this event is unlikely to be successful. There are people who collect all the advertisements in a row: loaders and office managers, dishwashers and secretaries. Such a scattering will not give good results, despite the hopelessness of the situation. So some useful tips on how to prepare for such an important task will come in handy.
- Decide more precisely you want to get a job Make a list and select options for it, discarding everything else.
- The main thing is to calm down, don’t fuss, and choose all options wisely.
- Do not post your resume on every job board available. They will be an eyesore for employers, and they will understand that you yourself do not know what kind of job you want to get.
- Publish 2 resumes per week on different platforms. You can send 1 resume per day by personal mail.
- Decide what salary you need (minimum threshold) and do not lower this bar. Why do you need to scrub floors for 7,000 rubles if it’s not enough for anything? Look further!
If you imagine what kind of job you want to get, you will see the ultimate goal in front of you - you will definitely achieve it in the end. If you grab onto everything in a row, of course, you will find some place, but as a result you will again be left without work after 2-3 months. So be thoroughly prepared for your job search and the challenges that await you. One of the scariest things is the interview.
This is interesting.
The rarest profession, which is in demand exclusively at Antarctic airfields, is a penguin flipper.
Quick preparation for an interview
Ways to make a good first impression during a job interview
Here are some simple ways to make a good first impression during a job interview:
- Arrive on time.
- Dress well.
- Be polite to everyone.
- Greet the interviewer.
- Remember the interviewer's name.
- Smile sincerely.
- Use a firm handshake.
- Maintain correct upright posture.
- Show confidence and enthusiasm.
- Maintain eye contact.
- Speak more clearly.
- Give thoughtful answers.
- Give relevant examples.
- Be knowledgeable about the job and the company.
- Write down some good notes and refer to them.
- Thank the interviewers at the end of the interview.
Create a story about yourself
Practice giving a short introduction about yourself in less than two minutes to summarize who you are, what you've done, and what benefits you can bring to the company.
Elements of a good quick presentation include your name, the position or positions you have held in the past, your key skills and qualifications, your key accomplishments on the job, and what makes you stand out from your competitors.
The tone of your voice should sound enthusiastic, natural and at a good tempo. It shouldn't seem rehearsed. To reinforce your presentation, write down the important points you want to get across and then practice saying the key points.
Rehearsing your quick presentation will help you fine-tune and improve your presentation, and will also increase your confidence when actually telling it.
Types of Interviewers
During a job interview, you are likely to encounter different types of interviewers. Interviewers have different styles, approaches and personalities. It is important to be flexible, adapt quickly to different interviewers, and give good answers to increase your chances of success.
No matter which interviewer you meet, remain vigilant. Stay focused, be respectful, and remember that your main goal is to present yourself effectively to get the job.
On the other hand, it is also quite possible that the different personality types of the interviewers you encounter in an organization may set up a test to throw you off balance and see how you react and adapt in various challenging circumstances.
Here are some types of interviewers:
Calm and friendly
This type of interviewer makes you feel comfortable. They will be calm, relaxed, and may even engage you in informal chat before and even during the interview.
This type of interviewer can provide encouragement and positive feedback during the interview. The interview can be informal and more like a conversation. The main thing to remember is to always speak professionally and be careful not to reveal more information than necessary.
Interrogator
This type of interviewer usually has a list of questions that they ask one after another. They will stick to a predetermined script with a sense of urgency to ask the same set of questions to all respondents.
Be prepared to give thoughtful answers in quick succession. Sometimes you may need time to think about your answer, and that's okay. Stay calm even when bombarded with questions, and respond gracefully, respectfully, and to the best of your ability.
Interview without a script
This type of interviewer is unscripted and their interviewing style is unconventional.
They will begin the interview with a question or set of questions and explore different directions based on your answers and the specific requirements of the job description.
In this situation, one question or answer can lead to more related questions and answers. Be prepared to do a lot of research and be prepared to give detailed and specific answers.
Unprepared
This type of interviewer may be reading your resume for the first time during the interview itself, or perhaps they will just read your resume a few minutes before the interview begins.
Be prepared to pleasantly explain and answer many questions based on your resume. Even though the interviewer may seem unprepared, don't let that distract you or let your guard down.
Always be friendly, positive and respectful and give good answers.
Common interview questions
These are questions that are often asked during many interviews. Questions help the interviewer understand you and learn more about you. Take time to think about your answers to questions before your interview.
What is most important if you have an interview with a recruitment agency?
If you successfully passed an interview with a recruitment agency, and it proposed your candidacy to the employer, be careful! Not only your possible employment for this vacancy, but also your further cooperation with the agency largely depends on your behavior at a meeting with the employer. Our agency (many agencies) practices the presence of its consultant at the interview with the company. And here you have to pass a double exam: the employer evaluates you as a possible employee, and the consultant evaluates you as a potential candidate for similar vacancies in other companies.
Therefore, when going for an interview, think about what will happen if you, for example:
- be 15 minutes late for a meeting with your employer;
- Having received an offer from an agency for a new vacancy, you will again be late for a meeting with the employer;
- you will not come at all to a meeting with the employer, about which you were warned in advance by the staff of the recruitment agency;
- you forget to wash your hair, put on socks... in general, get yourself in order;
- You will arrive with a lingering smell of alcohol after a night of partying.
The list can be continued indefinitely... So - nothing will happen! And, above all, there will be no more job offers, in search of which you turned to the recruitment agency. After all, any agency values its reputation... Do not make ridiculous mistakes, because, no matter how trivial it may sound, the successful completion of the employment process depends on you.
And finally, you might find the “how to tie a tie” diagram useful.

How to ask not to be refused
Share:
Good afternoon
Today you will find 7 rules on how to ask correctly and get what you want.
But before I share the algorithm for asking correctly, I want to ask you a question: do you know how to ask? Do you love it? Do you do it calmly and whenever you need something? Or do you put it off, hoping that you can handle it yourself or that someone will offer help?
As practice shows, our reluctance and inability to ask leads to disastrous results.
Really:
“We expect our loved ones to understand that we need help.” And as a result, we are faced with disappointment, resentment, the feeling that we were not understood and that they do not want to help. Alas, our loved ones are not psychics and are unlikely to read our thoughts. Therefore, you should not waste time on dreams, it is better to explain yourself.
- We dream of a surprise. An unexpected gift, help, sympathy undoubtedly makes you happy, but in this case you will have to wait until your next birthday or March 8th.
“We put worries and troubles on ourselves, instead of making just one request.
- We lose care and spoil relationships because we do not respond in a timely manner to the attention offered.
“We harbor resentment and anger, but our hint was simply not heard or not understood.”
Sound familiar?
Then let's figure it out
Why don't we like to ask?
There are many reasons why we don’t like to ask. You don’t like to borrow money and live by the motto: “I do it myself.” Your mother patiently took on responsibilities in the family, at work, and for loved ones. You sincerely believe that others will not do better. You may think that asking is awkward and rude. It’s easier for you to cope with difficulties yourself than to become dependent. Or maybe you are afraid of being rejected or causing inconvenience.
Of course, you can proudly and independently solve all your problems, of which there are usually many, but you can choose another path, more natural for a woman.
Why asking is important
1 If a woman does not make a request to a man, then he believes that she can handle it herself, and she doesn’t really need him
2 Having become accustomed to the fact that you never ask, your unexpected request will look to those around you as something unnecessary, as an encroachment on already planned time, as your ineptitude in some matter.
3 The more often you ask, the better you do it. If you rarely ask, then it looks somehow insecure.
4 In the process of requesting and fulfilling it, relationships are built. Partners become more attentive to each other.
5 Loved ones feel responsibility and trust. The fewer secrets, the more honest the relationship
Psychologists have long proven that when we do something for others, we perceive the person for whom we are doing it as part of our life. By investing time and energy in the affairs of another, we become closer. The more we know about someone and do something important for them, the closer and more interested we become.
How to ask wrong
1 Don't ask for what you can do yourself. This reduces the importance of the request and turns it into a bore.
2 Do not turn communication into a cascade of requests and instructions. Otherwise, it seems that you are burdening yourself with your problems. Alternate requests with other situations.
3 A request should be followed by gratitude. Do not say in response to the fulfillment of a request, “Well, this is better,” “It would have been like this a long time ago,” “I won’t ask you a hundred times yet...” Say, “Thank you,” or “You helped me a lot,” that’s enough.
4 Don’t ask directly, without preparation. Even if you are in a hurry, explain the situation, at least in a few words.
5 Don't overdo it. Excessive ingratiation and pretense will turn the request into a game and instead of help you will receive flirting in return. And in general, you may be misunderstood.
It is wrong to think that someone is ready to fulfill our requests because they have to. A sense of duty or responsibility will force you to help you several times, but then you will be refused. It is better to appeal to love and sincere feelings.
How to ask correctly
1 Your request must be clear. Vague requests lead to vague results. Indicate dates, quantities, names. Emphasize if the request must be completed on time.
2 Make requests in a timely manner. A request made in the back of someone leaving may not be heard and easily forgotten.
3. Be prepared for rejection. There is no greater insult than refusal where we are sure of a good outcome. If you have an alternative option prepared, you will relax and it will be easier for you to ask.
4 Start your request with a compliment. Say that you hope for help, that “no one can do it better”, that “you are still grateful for your previous actions”, “that you believe in strength”...
5 Justify your request. Tell us why this is so important to you, why you don’t have time or can’t do it yourself.
6 Do not use manipulation and do not turn a request into a demand. Speak calmly, even if they refuse. Expressing resentment or anger is a hidden manipulation, so don’t rush to pout, cry or say: “Okay, I’ll remember,” this will help no more than three times, and then it will only ruin the relationship.
7 The size of the gratitude should correspond to the size of the request. For small requests, just smile and say, “Thank you,” and you can offer your help in return. For great help, you should express your sincere gratitude, you can thank him with a gift. You can even thank them in advance, this will increase the feeling of need and responsibility.
If you are refused:
1 Express sincere disappointment, say that you are “Sorry”, that “you were counting on support.” Just don’t generalize or reproach “It’s always like this with you”... You could say that you get rejected so often that you start keeping a list of refusals.
2 Be honest with yourself. Analyze why you were rejected. The person really doesn’t have time and you came at the wrong time or he has other, deeper reasons. Often, in case of refusal, we shift the blame onto the person who refused, and do not want to face the truth. In fact, we may be talking about difficulties in relationships, but we don’t want to admit it.
3 Don't turn refusal into conflict. Better offer an alternative option. Ask when they can help you, maybe just rescheduling is enough. Or ask for advice on how to get out of a difficult situation. Often a joint search for an answer leads to a solution.
4 The statement: “Then I will ask someone else for help,” is manipulative. But if you are really determined to look for another assistant, then admit that you will look for “another option.”
5 Don't be afraid to repeat requests. Remember what results children achieve by repeating what they want. Instead of fuming from silence or refusal, it is better to cool down and try again. Perhaps your request simply was not heard or the man was too busy. It is important to make the request as if for the first time. It is quite possible that your interlocutor really paid attention to your request for the first time.

Tips for getting a job for people with work experience
Today, the employment system itself has already turned into a certain set of rules, subject to which successful employment is ensured almost 100%. How to get a job “correctly”, what to say to the employer, and what is better to keep silent about, what qualities to extol to the skies, and which ones are better to forget about altogether - many articles are devoted to these topics. And we decided to start with drawing up a resume, since this is the first step towards successful employment.
The resume should contain the maximum information necessary for the employer or HR manager. There is even a certain standard in the order of arrangement of the candidate’s personal data.
Last name, first name, patronymic and date of birth are typed in large font. It is advisable that a photograph of the applicant be attached to the resume. In the first lines you should also write your email address and contact numbers where you can be contacted at any time. It is necessary to inform the potential employer about your marital status.
If you are writing a resume for a specific employer, it is better to indicate a specific vacancy that is currently open in the company.
Special attention should be paid to the “Work Experience” item. Places of previous work are listed in reverse chronological order, that is, starting with the most recent. The employer, as a rule, is interested in the last two or three places and a period of no more than the last 10 years. And be sure to check for grammatical errors.
This, perhaps, is all the simple wisdom of writing a competent, informative resume (by the way, experts say that such a resume should take up one and a half pages at most).
