We are talking about the consequences of the actions of each person and the responsibility that each of us must bear for the actions committed.

This is why it is not uncommon to see some families suffering from a genuine family curse that spans multiple generations. For example, rich families become poorer and poorer until they reach rock bottom. Or, someone in the family will certainly die at a young age.

This can be observed in many families. All that is required to cause bad karma for an entire family is the wrong actions of one single family member, a person in one generation. It can lead to the decline of an entire family.

The price of damnation

The fact is that my sister and I were first the director of a brewery, and then became its owner. But people don’t understand how difficult it is, how much effort and work it takes, how much mom went from junior technologist to director. Only no one remembers this, but everyone is jealous of the kind of house you built and the kind of cars you drive. Of course, my mother had to fire the slackers, and in the 90s there were delays in salaries: if you manage a large enterprise, there will always be dissatisfied people. One such quarrelsome man, who was always running around the courts - one thing was illegal for him, then another - one day, when he realized that he could not achieve anything with his slander, out of impotence he shouted a curse to his mother. I, then still a child, did not hear the exact words myself. And my older sister and I were not in this place. The slanderer - his mother always called him a “holy fool” in mockery - that day the police tied him up for something, so out of anger and powerlessness he cursed his mother. My mother was at work that day, and the neighbors told my mother that Sergei Ivanovich was shouting and cursing her. In fact, Sergei Ivanovich was not a loudmouth or rowdy: he mostly went to court and wrote letters to newspapers. He came to our district, to his mother’s factory right after college, and, as his mother said, he had “the dawn of a pioneer in one place and played” - he was an idealist. A year ago, when I came to our city to visit my mother’s grave and check on my sister, I met this Sergei Ivanovich on the street: he was just as thin, only he had turned grey, and he looked like a boy: in jeans, in a jacket. My sister and I still laughed: it seemed like we were wearing the same ones. I met him on the street - he was taking his granddaughter from school - I said hello and moved on. So what to do? You’re not going to start sorting things out on the street right away? My mother has been gone for 17 years - she left in agony, cancer brought her to an early grave. My sister has trouble after trouble: her second husband, an ungrateful bastard, while she was being treated in Israel, transferred all her shares to himself, and my daughter Lidochka, my niece, got involved with drug addicts in college...

I wanted to come to this Sergei Ivanovich’s house (he still lives there) and talk. My sister stops me: he most likely doesn’t even remember what he was yelling, he’ll only laugh at us fools, like, that’s what you want. And I think that he cannot help but remember: the cops tied him up, drunk, when he celebrated forty days for his wife - at the wake. His wife was sick, when she gave birth to his baby, it seems like two years later she burned to death. He could not forget such a day! Moreover, as my sister says, he didn’t marry later, he raised his daughter alone. But how to come to him, Maria? I even think that he forgave us all a long time ago - he greeted us calmly, and there was no shadow of malice in his eyes. And why? The cops then just took him, one might say, to teach him a lesson, for his own good, so that he wouldn’t interfere where he shouldn’t. And they let him go, most likely, quickly... And anyway, you can’t go to his house, two aunts with higher education, and one of them is from England! If you don’t come, you won’t say: “Take your curse back…”

How can you free yourself from a curse? “Repentance and confession. I know many similar cases. People who suffered from the curse, realizing that they were cursed because they were guilty of something, repented, confessed, and all their troubles stopped. If the one who is guilty says: “My God, I did such and such an injustice. Forgive me,” and with pain and sincerity he will tell about his sins in confession to the priest, then God will forgive him, because He is God,” the elder taught.

But who gets punished? The person at whom the curse is directed, or the one from whom it comes? What then happens to those who, unable to restrain themselves, cursed? “The one to whom the curse is directed suffers in this life,” said Paisius the Svyatogorets. “However, the one from whom the curse comes is tormented in this life and will be tormented in the next life, because if he does not repent and confess, then there he will be punished by God as a criminal.” Okay, maybe someone really offended you in some way. But when you curse the person who offended you, it’s like you’re taking a gun and killing him. By what right do you do this? No matter what your offender does, you have no right to kill him. If a person curses someone, it means that there is anger in him. A person curses another when, with passion and indignation, he wishes him harm. A curse coming from a person who is right has considerable power.”

Irina, our ancestors knew this well. The Bible mentions so-called sins that cry out to heaven. What is this?

intentional murder of a person;
oppression of the poor, widows and orphans;
illegal deduction or reduction of fees.

The fact that these are terrible sins was well known to our ancestors. Although, knowledge is knowledge, and the passion of greed is an insidious thing. Human memory keeps many stories when even pious people publicly repented of having offended, albeit inadvertently, the poor, widows, orphans. That is, they offended, but then realized their sin. And they not only came with confession to church, to God, but also found the courage to repent before the offended. The courage to look him in the eyes and say: “Forgive me - for God’s sake! Don’t harbor evil in your heart!”
